Hi, I'm Dot. I live in Southern California. I'm still pretty new to Gaia and this is my first venture into the whole guild thing. So thanks for having me!

I am part Filipino and was thus raised with a fairly developed palate and little fear of foreign food. I'm always the one in the group who wants to order the part of the animal no one would want to eat.

Though I do love to bake, I have less patience than is necessary and thus I lean toward cooking. I love-love-LOVE to cook for my friends, and they happily play the roles of my test-kitchen guinea pigs.

I'm the kind of person who always has to add unexpected flavors and hard-to-find ingredients -- I end up sounding like a frou-frou California gourmet chef. My boyfriend teases me about that, since his forte is the traditional, down-home stuff like barbecue and soul food.

Right now I'm living with Mum and Dad, and they're both into buying that low-carb, non-fat, no-sugar-added stuff so I'm not happy with the contents of our pantry or fridge most of the time. They still eat what I fix, though! Whenever I cook, I buy the ingredients myself since I'm very picky.

When I finally have my own place, my goal is to stock an amazing kitchen with top-of-the-line tools, a mini-garden of fresh herbs and vegetables, and quality ingredients.

Looking forward to reading all of your posts!

Hiiii. My name's Cam; I'm 17, I live in Maryland, and I'm a vegetarian so all of my cooking is meatless. Basically, I love to eat anything with cheese - I love stuffed shells, cheese enchiladas, stuff like that - and I loveeee tofu but I suck at cooking it. I'm a good cook - not a beginner but not an expert. I do a lot of baking but I enjoy cooking just as much [and I cook dinner everyday for my family, so I do a lottt more cooking]. I recently made some delicious bean&cheese empanadas & some cinnamon mocha-fudge brownies. Cooking keeps my family away from prepared / instant / preservative & chemical laden foods so I'm happy to do it.

::Hiiii (: I'm Michelle. I live in the St. Louis area. My favorite foods would be sushi and steak. But I'm Korean so I would die w/out Korean food. I like baking more than cooking just b/c I've never really learned how to cook? I like helping out in the kitchen though, it's really fascinating and fun (:::

Hello there, I'm annoli!
I currently live in Maryland, but have spent some time in NYC. And I hope to be in FL soon. I am fortunate to have a sibling who worked in restaurants. She introduced me to all the great foods I was missing out on.

I love to try all sorts of food (I'm adventurous). I usually pick my meals based on my mood and what my tummy is craving for so I don't have a favorite kind of cuisine. But all my meals, I want to end it with ice cream or gelato!

I lean towards baking because it seems easier for me (especially cookies). I'm still trying to find the perfect chocolate chip recipe. But I do cook for others when I have the right ingredients. Unfortunately I need recipes or instructions just to prepare a basic meal.

My favorite flavors include anything sweet, dark chocolate, peppermint, cardomom, black sesame, black pepper (I put it on everything!), and Thai Basil. They all make great ice cream flavors too! hehehe

My skill level is beginning.

Cooking relaxes me and lets me release any excessive energy from a hard and frustrating day. I do believe that if you cook when you're angry, happy, sad will be reflected in the final outcome of your meal. Cooking is a way for me to express myself and how much I care for those I am cooking. It allows me to concentrate and use my brain more efficiently. Food, eating and cooking are my hobbies since I tend to get ADD doing other things like reading...heh.

I cook whenever...not as much as I like to. But whenever I find a good recipe or want to treat my special someone.

~Nice to meet you all!

Hello. My name is Phoenyx.

Where you live
Currently, I live in Indiana.

What's your favourite thing to eat/make.
Well, I am a pesco vegetarian, meaning that while I DO NOT consume meat, I do eat some seafood. Being lactose intolerant, I tried a vegan lifestyle... but I love cheese, so it is extremely hard for me. My favorite foods to cook and eat are soups, stews, and casseroles. Did I mention that I love soup? Celery... mushroom... broccoli... potato... minestrone... tomato... they are all so good! I also enjoy pizza, veggie burgers (Boca Portabella is OH SO GOOD!), coffee, tea, and soup.

If you lean towards baking, or more towards cooking.
I prefer cooking, yet I can do a mean share of baking, as well. I am highly experimental in my cooking, and consider a recipe as merely a loose suggestion. Even my so-called disasters have been successes, as I am the queen of recipe rescue! Baking, is mostly a holiday affair.. cookies and cakes.. unless, of course, I get a hunger for fresh, hot bread... mmm!

Favourite flavourings (herbs, spices, extracts).
I love the wonderful aroma and flavorful taste of garlic. I also us a great deal of onion, curry, and-my old standby-oregano. I collect and use spices as diverse as cinnamon to saffron, from dry mustard to celery seed, from ground horseradish to tarragon. I am always changing the flavoor of my "signature style". I guess if you can say it's good, then it's my style.

Skill level (beginniner, intermediate, expert)
My skill level varies depending on what I am cooking. In soups, I am an expert. In stir-fry, perhaps, mid-level beginner. I love making curries... consider that intermediate. I grew up in the kitchen, but as my family are all carnivorous beings, I have had to change nearly every "recipe" that I have been exposed to.

What cooking does for your well-being.
Cooking makes me feel at peace. There is just something to be said about the smells wafting from the kitchen, enticing you and making you feel at home. It is no surprise that the kitchens have become the great gathering place in today's world-replacing the living rooms and great rooms of our past. In fact, I even dance in my kitchen as I am cooking (on most days, that is.) When I am sad, a good meal will help to lift me from my gunk.
Another thing I love is when I am cooking and my wonderful husband comes up behind me and puts his arms around me. He will ususally peek over my shoulder to see what I am cooking.

What are some of the occasions that you like to cook for?
I cook for all occasions!

Hi all - I'm Taligator but you can call me Tali.

I live in the Bay Area, California.

Food is something I really enjoy. I love to read cookbooks, plan meals, shop for meals ... and that's about it. *G* I'm not nearly as interested in actually COOKING as I am in planning for it.

My brother is the cook in the family and together we make a perfect cook. He doesn't like to plan but loves to cook, so I usually plan and he cooks.

But, I am a good cook. I just prefer to cook for other people and not just myself.

I do better at main course type foods than I do at desserts for some reason. I've been known to make bread from time to time and enjoy doing that because it's more magical in some ways. To take just flour and water and yeast and form it into something and give it shape is just cool.

Some of my favorite kitchen tools are my MAC knives, Vita-Mix, and my Pressure Cooker.

I don't always use a lot of spices but I love onion and garlic as well as parsley (technically an herb not a spice but hey) and cumin is another favorite. I don't use the latter all that much but it's something I love.

I use grey sea salt exclusively in all my cooking and love how it tastes. It's a very delicate taste and one that allows the flavors of the food to come through. I also enjoy it sprinkled on chocolate cake -- YUM! I tend to underspice/season everything because I enjoy the food underneath far more than I enjoy the spices.

What else ... for the most part, cooking is about survival for me. It's not about nurturing or relaxing, it's just something I have to do. Now, reading about and learning about cooking is something else entirely. I can't think of a better day than spending it curled up on the couch and watching FoodTV or reading cookbooks.

Hello there. I'm a non-traditional Californian in the capitol. I love cheesecake the most, but I'm sensitive to milk so I die a little each time I eat it. I most love to make cupcakes and share them with my friends. I'm also an accomplished maker of onigiri (Japanese Rice Balls).

I'm more of the bakery/sweets type; I don't cook well yet--my boyfriend handles that stuff cause I'm still learning/expanding my repetoire.

I don't specifically have a fave flavoring or whatever, unless you count sugar, but that's more of an ingredient, isn't it? I seriously can't even drink a cup of coffee without at least 10 lumps of sugar, no less than 6 in an 8oz cup of tea (that may be due to the tummy upset I get from caffiene though... I eat a LOT of cake (it's amazing my teeth aren't rotten!)

I'm just a novice, but I've been told that when I actually DO cook something, it tastes great, so I plan to dedicate a LOT more time to that sort of thing in the future.

For me, cooking is a stressful experience, but seeing it all come together at the end gives me an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. It is both productive and aesthetic. The smell, taste, color, all blend together to make for an AMAZING thing overall... I can't properly express it, sorry, I think in pictures and this is not my English class so I've not much of a prompt to work from (I'm actually taking a break from said class's homework at this very moment).

When I do actually cook, it's usually for a day when I am spending time by myself or when a friend is having a party. I love to take the strange combo of onigiri and fresh cake with homemade frosting to social events. The onigiri make a GREAT snack with their variety flavors and the cake is a nice desert. I seem best at the "before"/antipasto and "after"/dulce parts of a meal rather than the meal itself. LOL

At any rate, all laughter and rambling aside, I'm pleased to be joining a community of food lovers like myself and hope to pick up and/or share recipies here. It's going to be FUN! heart

Be forewarned-I will likely edit the content of this post when I'm less sleepy and in more of a writing mood. LOL

My name is Emily. I'm a 25 year-old vegetarian. Cooking and I never saw eye to eye. I despised cooking until at age 16, my uncle taught me how to make sushi. Since then I'd try to cook, often with disasterous results. It was very disheartening. Finally, with encouragement (the cook it or starve kind of encouragement), I became more serious and persistent. I found that my biggest mistakes in cooking were getting side tracked resulting in forgetting about what's cooking, and starting to cook before preparing the ingredients. Now that I'm conscious of my cooking faults, I keep myself attentive and prepare all ingredients before starting a fire. Since then I found that I love cooking! Especially foriegn foods, which no longer seem so foriegn. My favorite to eat and make is still sushi. I love tofu and I'm on a quest to find recipes with tofu that my girlfriend (who dislikes tofu) will eat. So far I've found 1 tofu dish she'll eat, tofu and all. As far as spices go, I'm a bit of a turmeric junkie, especially in basmati rice. My cooking level is such that I can successfully adapt recipes to whatever is on hand or for a different taste and can make quite a few things from memory. I still love to get new recipes for different ideas and flavors.

Most of all I cook for good health. It's an endless adventure to make dishes that are not only delicious but healthy. I garden so I can harvest delicious, fresh, healthy, organic ingredients to eat and I like to study nutrition. I think food is especially satisfying and good for not only the mind and body, but also the spirit, when you've played a roll in growing it!

Hi, I'm Michelle. I'm 14 and I live in the southern U.S. ;D I love most food, except for spicy things and some Italian. I love baking more than cooking real food, but I'm trying to fix that xD I'm only a beginner, but I'd love to learn more about cooking and cooking healthy things.
I would be a vegetarian, but again, I'm 14, so my parents won't let me. ;_;

Hello everyone~ Very nice to meet you~

My name is Jena. I'm 22, and I live in Massachusetts, near Boston. I'm an anime/manga artist, and I like to write and sing (karaoke is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. heart ). I spend most of my time playing video games or watching anime.

I love soup, mushrooms, and onions (but only when they're cooked). I add caramelized onions to my cooking whenever I can get away with it. rofl But most of all, I love asian food, especially Japanese. >w< Udon noodles, chicken katsu, gyuudon, and shrimp tempura sushi are at the top of my list. heart

I'm far better at cooking then I am baking. Which is a shame, because I'd love to learn to make bread. But I think I'm too impatient/inattentive to do it. gonk I can't cook anything in oil, because I'm a massive klutz and I'm always worried I'll burn myself. gonk

I usually use bottled sauces to flavour my food, but I also like onion/garlic powder, and salt. I also tend to add honey or sugar to all my cooking (and I mean ALL my cooking). A little bit of sweetness can really make a difference. heart

I'd consider my skill level to be beginner. I honestly used to be a TERRIBLE cook. I mean hell, I've burned water before (plain water with nothing in it). But I'm home alone a lot, so I've had to rely on myself to make breakfast/lunch, so I've steadily improved over time, finally getting to the point where other people can eat my cooking and actually enjoy it. heart I am queen of the improv lunch. xd

If I'm cooking for myself (which is normally the case), I'm usually pretty relaxed, and don't worry too much about anything. But when I cook for others I tend to get very stressed out, worrying about how it will come out, and getting quickly frustrated if something goes wrong. gonk I usually make everyone (or at least my parents) leave the kitchen when I cook, because they tend to question what I'm doing and just stressing me more. In either case I very scatterbrained in the kitchen. sweatdrop I usually forget one thing or another and end up running around in circles...

I usually cook just for everyday things like lunch, and on the rare occasion dinner. My dad is always the one that handles holidays and the like (he's a great cook. My mom.. not so much. rofl )

my name is rebecca, or amethyst, whichever you prefer. i'm 17 and i live in montreal. i lean more towards baking because i enjoy the sweet side of life, but do crave the saltiness of cooking once in awhile. right now i don't make anything really because my foster parents don't let me. when i move out on my own i'll definitely make the kitchen my home. i've been with my bf for almost 3 1/2 years, and we plan on geting married. oh, and my favorite colour is purple.
