Dear journal,

Dad lied. Kaleb isn't the one writing, I am. This is Josh.

Just kidding. I am Kaleb. Dad told me that I have to introduce myself to you or something; but I'm not exactly sure how to do that, you know. You probably know more about me from Dad and Mom than I could tell you in one entry.

So... I'm Kaleb. I really don't know what to tell you, journal. I like flowers and gardening, I like to give flowers to my friends especially. I like making new friends and hanging out with my siblings. I like animals... I'm really sorry journal, this must be the worst entry you've ever recieved. I'm not especially good at talking about myself. See, I'm kinda shy, even though I know that the only ones reading this are Mom and Dad, and that you won't tell anyone else what I write--this is awkward. Why am I talking to a journal? It's as if I expect you to reply or something...

Maybe Sammi's right. I have been reading too much Harry Potter. Maybe I should read the Chrestomanci series. Reiya says they're good, almost as good as Howl's Moving Castle.

So... I'm supposed to meet my angelic parent soon. Mom said so, anyway. She says he's nice; but that's a given because he's an "angel". Mom won't let me meet my demonic parent yet. She won't say much about her, I know she knows more than she says, because she works as a teacher at the facility. I know that she avoids the subject of my demonic parent like she does snakes--but she will openly talk about 'Cent's demonic father. She says that she hasn't met Drake (that's 'Cent's demon dad's name, apparently) personally, she hears he's nice. Troublesome, though. He likes to take things that are needed for doing things.

Why won't she talk about mine with me? Is she that bad? That evil? Mom doesn't like evil things, I know... Mom has said that they keep some dangerous demons in the facility. Is my demonic parent one of them? Is that why she won't talk about her with me? It's not even that I especially want to meet her; it's the traits I got from her. I know Dad's mentioned it to you before, but there's this slit on my forehead.

It never bothered me before, but lately it's been starting to itch. It's really bothersome. Mom doesn't like me to take the bandaid covering it off; I got in trouble the time I tried.

Oh. I suppose I should tell you; mom's thinking of adopting again. She lost a baby a while back; and she got really upset about it. She cried for a long time. Dad's just starting to cheer her up. I hope she's happier soon.

Group Meeting

Kaleb is hugely disappointed. His mother and brother filled his head with ideas of meeting his angelic parent--and this is what he gets. Might as well try to make friends?

Dear Journal,

Joshua speaking, er, writing that is. Mom and Dad are busy preparing for a thunder storm, so I decided I'd write for once. Kaleb's growing steadily more annoying; he questions everything just like Socrates did. I swear he's going to end up being a philosopher with his need to understand everything. He's lost that cute feel about him, the cute chubbiness toddlers have; he's also lost the ability to be quiet. I much prefered him when he was shy, honestly. Now he's an annoying gadfly that pesters you until you answer him; then he asks you more questions.

Only this morning Vincent and I were playing Chess. Vinny beat me by a long-shot, as usual. He used his queen to get basically every one of my pieces, and then when I finally got his queen, he got his pawn to my side and it became a queen and he checkmated me. If you'd believe it, journal, Kaleb then comes over and asks what the purpose of the game is.

What the point of a game is? Obviously it's to have fun. He wasn't content with that answer, though. He kept asking what the moves symbolized and all that. Finally I told him that it symbolized a battle between two kingdoms, and that it used to be played by royalty. Then he went off on how it seemed clever of kings to settle their disputes in a non-violent manner.

...Seriously, journal, Kaleb's becoming a little weird. He's too smart. He's too much like Mom, questioning everything and sticking their noses into books. Not everything in life is going to have a clear meaning. Not everything needs one, really. I mean, sure, everyone's got a purpose in life--but not everything needs a clear reason. We don't need to know everything.

You'd be wrong if you thought Kaleb was happy with that answer. I think I'll show him how to use his imagination later today; he really needs to stop growing so quickly. I'm worried about my baby brother, journal. He needs to stop acting like an adult; start playing again.

The storm's started, I better go. I'll write again someday,

Josh

Breakfast in the Sadril household wasn't that unusual compared to that of the average family. The three boys sat at one end of the dining room table, while the two girls were at the other. Each seemed to have their own choice cereal; Vincent had a bowl of fruit loops, Joshua had honey-nut cheerios. Kaleb had neither; he had a bowl of Captain Crunch. His spoon was halfway to his mouth when he caught sight of his older brothers exchanging grins. "What is it?" he asked.

"I know a song about Captain Crunch," Josh said, sharing another grin with Vinny.

"I remember that song," Vinny mused, returning his brother's grin. "Bet Kaleb hasn't heard it yet, though. Why don't you sing it for us, Josh?"

"I was thinking about it," the oldest agreed. "Alright, I'll sing the chorus." He picked up a spoon and held it up to his mouth much like a microphone.

When the toast is burned
and all the milk has turned
and Captain Crunch is waving farewell
When the big one finds you
May this song remind you
That they don't serve breakfast in hell.

"Isn't there a part about fruit loops and cheerios too?" Vincent prompted.

"Yeah, but that's not part of the chorus," Joshua explained, before grinning at Kaleb's astonished expression. "It's by the Newsboys," he added. "Mom doesn't play them as often now because they broke up, but when Vinny and I were little, she was always listening to them."

"You know some of their songs," Vinny added, smiling at his younger brother. "We sing some of them in church." Not that Vincent ever sang; no, he felt that Joshua had the talent in that area.

"Entertaining Angels?" Kaleb guessed, through a mouthful of cereal.

"That's one. He Reigns and I Am Free, too. And Kaleb? Don't talk with your mouth full, it's gross."

"Take your own advice, Josh." Vinny observed, shaking his head. "It's gross."

"You too, Vin."

Vincent decided to ignore this and instead of replying, glanced at Kaleb. "So Kal, have you been seeing a girl with freckles, pigtails and a cute upturned nose?" It was such a change in subject that it caused Joshua to drop his spoon with a clang. His green eyes were upon Kaleb like spotlights; he wasn't bothering to retrieve his spoon.

"Well?" he asked, with keen interest.

"Girl with an upturned nose?" Kaleb echoed, looking puzzled. "Are you describing Sammi?"

"I don't have an upturned nose!" Samantha called from her place at the table. She shot a glare at the two older boys; they would be in for it when breakfast was over. Joshua half expected his hair to burst into flames. (Sammi could do that sort of thing; she controlled fire.)

"No," Vinny said, shaking his head and giving his sister a cautious look. "We've heard from anonymous sorces that you've been meeting with a 'cute little girl with freckles, pigtails and an upturned nose.' So are you?"

Kaleb smirked at his brothers' eager faces. "And did Mom tell you that the only reason I was meeting up with her was to do homework?"

"...No."

Joshua sighed. "And here I was hoping our baby brother had finally become normal! We could have shared some common ground..." He looked so disappointed that Kaleb found it comic. Time to play a game, he decided.

"I suppose she was rather cute," he mused, grinned as he watched his brothers' eyes widen, begging for information. "Might ask her to the Spring dance."

"What's her name?" The older boys demanded in unison.

Kaleb was silent, silent but grinning. It broadened at the groans of his brothers. "That's one piece of information I won't willingly give you," he said. He knew quite well that his brothers tended to take advantage of his giving nature. He had to draw this out.

"But..."

"You know all about the girls we like!" Joshua protested. "It's only fair that you tell us--"

"Everyone knows you like Nataya," Kaleb pointed out. "And everyone knew 'Cent liked Lissy even before he started dating her, except maybe 'Cent and Lissy. Even Mom knew." At this, his older brothers exchanged looks.

No longer grinning, and suddenly quite serious, Josh said, "Mom knows everything. Forget eyes in the back of her head, she's got invisible eyes and ears everywhere. Even if you don't tell us, we'll eventually find out. You know how she likes to talk."

Journal,

Mom keeps shooting me nervous looks. I finally decided to stop wearing bandaids on my forehead. The slit there keeps itching, and feels like a blister's starting to form. I thought a bit of fresh air would do it some good. Mostly it's just an irritant; I don't know why Mom's insisted I keep it covered before now. She gives me these looks like she expects me to explode or bomb something. The same kind of look she gives dad right before they have a fight.

Did I do something wrong? Is she expecting some kind of rebelious outburst? All I've been able to gather from Vincent (who knows quite a bit more than he pretends, I've recently learned) is that it's a trait from my demonic parent. That said, Vincent gives me a look identical to the one Mom gives me.

They know something I don't, I figure. Why won't anyone tell me about my demonic parent? I know demons are evil, but they purposely avoid the subject. One time, I brought it up at dinner and Mom pointedly asked me to pass the peas. She's never even mentioned her.

On the other hand, Joshua and the twins (you know, Sammi and Reiya, journal) seem as puzzled at Mom's behavior as I am. I don't think they know what's going on either; otherwise they've become extremely good actors in a short bit of time. Usually Joshua is especially kind towards me. I know he'd try to help me if he knew anything.

Dad pretends he doesn't notice, but I think he knows something too. It worries me, journal. What's going on with me? Even my brothers complain that I'm not as much fun as I used to be--Sammi's never said anything, but Reiya likes complaining that I'm annoying and that I'm a pest and that I better stay out of her room--but I think that's normal older sister stuff.

Oh well. When I do find out what the big secret is about my demonic parent, I'll be sure to write.

Yours,

Kaleb

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

Meet the Fam

Vinny and Kaleb see Lissy and Roman at the skating rink
PostPosted: Sun Aug 08, 2010 1:16 pm

Dear Journal,

So Vincent's girlfriend is the prettiest girl I've ever met, short of mom. (Mom doesn't really count, according to Josh). She makes my stomach do a backflip, not like there's butterflies in my stomach, either. This is different. I met her and her younger brother Roman at the skating rink. I don't think 'Cent knows that I like Lissy, I hope not. He'd probably kill me, knowing how possessive he is.

I can hardly blame him, with a girl like that. She's beautiful and smart, and funny, and she likes nachos--when I'm older, I'll find a girl like that. A girl who's pretty, smart, funny, and all kinds of sweet. Someday, I'll find one. Joshua already has one planned, her name's Nataya. Vinny's got Lissy, so... I can't be the only one without one. I'm sure they had their troubles too, finding one.

Mom just assured me that I'm handsome and bound to find the perfect girl soon. She's reading over my shoulder now. I wish she wouldn't. She's really an awesome mom and everything, she always knows just what to say and how to say it, but she's nosy. Terribly nosy.

Oh there, she went away. Good, now I don't have to keep saying how awesome she is. So anyway. Dad's been giving me the bees and the birds--wait, no, that's wrong. The chirps and the buzzes? No. What did he call it? Birds and the bees. That's it. Yeah. Dad's been giving me the birds and the bees talk lately. He seems to think I'll need it.

He's wrong. I've always known girls were different from boys. How could I not? I have older sisters! I've always treated girls well. Josh is reading over my shoulder. Will I never get any privacy? I suppose I shouldn't be writing this at the kitchen table.

He says that girls are like eating fruit salad blind folded. You never know what you're going to get. You might get some piece of -blegh- pineapple, or some sweet grape. Well, he said plum, but I know what he meant. I think he means personality wise rather than strict girl wise. Maybe that's why Mom seems to have mood swings so often lately. She's definately like eating fruit salad blindfolded.

I keep expecting her to throw dad out of the house, suitcase and all, but she never does. They constantly argue, but then I see them being all lovey-dovey. Josh says it's normal for someone in mom's condition.

...I wonder what condition he means. Is she insane?

Josh just snickered at me. He's giving me the 'I know something you don't' look that Mom and Dad always give me.

... Mom's going to have a baby?

...I'm going to be an older brother?

AWESOME!

"So guys, what do you think I should be for Halloween?" Kaleb asked seriously, studying his brothers. Vincent had decided to go as a pirate; a costume that suited his personality, the younger spawn thought privately. Joshua on the other hand, was content with being what he always was; a prince.

His brothers glanced up from their newest model; a wooden plane. "I think you should be something steampunky," Josh said with a shrug. "Maybe a pilot. Devin's going as a cat. Howl's going as some kind of... I don't really know."

"Some kind of wizard, I bet," Vinny said, grinning. "You really should go as a steampunk pilot, Kaleb. Your wings would really fit the costume. It'd look really cool. You could come to a party with us, if you like," he gave his younger brother a smile. "Josh and I were planning on going to one with Howl and Loki. You could come."

"Yeah," Josh agreed with a nod. "Unless you want to go trick or treating with Devi and Leyla." He rose an eyebrow at his brother and smirked. Clearly trick or treating with their younger cousins was not an option.

"No, no," Kaleb grinned. "I'll go. Are Sammi and Reiya going too?" He briefly wondered what his sisters were going as.

"No," Vincent shook his head. "They're going to some dance." He made a face, as if he disapproved; though Josh and Kaleb both knew that if his girlfriend Elisabetta had asked him to go to a dance, he would have jumped at the chance.

"A dance, huh? Cool. Yeah, I think I'd rather go to the party."

"It's at Uncle Natvii's place. He says it's haunted enough for us," Josh explained. "Apparently he's got that one house in Halloween town no one's lived in for ages."
