GROWTH SPURT & G R O W I N G P A I N S It had been one of those times where Luis was completely at a loss. Faris was drained of energy (during the night even), irritable, and just generally lost appetite. The satyress felt a concern growing in her as time went on and even her daughter's skin and hair looked a lot duller than normal. Sometimes Faris complained of aches and pains and just generally seemed pretty down, later that night the Gargoyle insisted in sleeping in the same bed as Luis and the red haired satyress didn't have it in her to say no and complied.
As she lay in the darkness held her daughter she couldn't help but notice that something was 'wrong'. Feeling small bit of dread she turned and turned on the light and had discovered that her daughter had turned completely into stone!
Luis frowned and nudged her daughter away (boy was she heavy right now) from her and sat up in bed and stared down at the now serene look on her child's face. It had certainly been a change from the fitful one that Faris wore lately but still the satyress let out a dismayed sound and climbed out of bed and began to pace. Should she go to Switch? Should she go to a doctor? What should she do? She was not prepared for this, was her daughter ill? Was she dead? The woman had no idea what to do except for tremble and cry as she moved and sat next to the stone figure on her bed and petted at the petrified hair with a small frown.
"Babe, wake up, y'gotta. I need you," she murmured with a small sniff. It seemed shortly after she felt the stone figure tremor beneath her hand and Luis felt her heart beat faster as hope began to surge through her, "Faris? Sweet'eart? Y'hear me?"
Another tremor.
Her Gargoyle was okay after all! She was so happy and yet she didn't feel she could celebrate yet not until her daughter broke free of the stone imprisonment. She gently pet at the stone figure's hair and hummed a bit and began to tell her stories until finally cracks began to appear upon the stone surface. The cracks were small and hairline at first until they grew and eventually bits began to fall away. Sensing something more explosive coming Luis stood and stepped away and moved to the closet door and pulled it open for a bit of shielding. She was right to do so for a few moments later?
Faris burst out of her prison with a loud 'HAI~' and it sent bits of stone everywhere. The girl gazed down at herself for a long moment and Luis peeked around the closet door at her daughter. Faris uttered a small giggle as she moved to cover herself with a blanket littered with stone fragment.
"Naked," the Gargoyle said bashfully.
Luis stared on at first in amazement. Her daughter had grown! The amazement didn't last long as she watched Faris react to her growth because it had turned to amusement as she laughed and turned to get her daughter a rather oversized shirt. It was Farrel's old shirt but it would do for now until they could gather some clothes. Quietly Luis handed her daughter the shirt and she gratefully pulled the large shirt on with a small laugh.
"S'Big Mama!" She chirruped happily as she stared down at the stone fragment covered bed with a small frown, "sorries I made a messy mess."
"It's alright, darlin', get down and help me clean up." The satyress said with a small smile and a feeling of great relief running through her. She thought she was going to lose yet another person she cherished but was relieved when that was not the case.
"Mm!" Faris nodded and climbed down and then began to help her mother with getting the messed up sheets off the bed and get new sheets on careful to not let anymore fragments fall to the ground. By the time the new sheets on the bed both of them were ready to sleep. Faris flopped down on the bed belly first and grinned happily, "I y'am bigger now, Mama. I can do big girl things!" The Gargoyle uttered cheerfully.
Sleepily Luis nodded and laughed, "So you can..." and with a yawn she fell asleep. Faris followed suit soon after.

EARNING YOUR KEEP W I T H D I S H P A N H A N D S Since she had grown Faris had been following Luis around and asking her for work around the tavern. The Gargoyle had reasoned that she should learn to 'earn her keep' like the people on television do and that she would be able to get her own things and not have to keep asking the Satyress for stuff every now and again. Luis would argue back that it was perfectly fine and that she didn't mind buying her daughter things and they went back and forth like this for quite some time. For a while Luis could think up excuses as to why Faris couldn't assist her until one of her staff had to quit due to moving away and needing a different job that was closer to home since they had no vehicle. It just so happened that this person was the person that washed the dishes for the tavern.
Faris jumped at the chance.
"Pleases!? I'll be the bestestest dishes washer ever!" Faris pleaded as she trailed around behind her mother in the small 'apartment' upstairs from the tavern.
Luis sighed as she was harangued, "Why do ye want to work so bad? T's not like it's easy work or nothin'."
The Gargoyle uttered a small whine as she reached and tugged at the back of her mother's vest and stayed latched on, "Faris does not want easy work! She wants to work like the others do! Don't want to be favoriteses of Mama!" Faris insisted stubbornly as she moved along with her parent so as to be a persistent tugging weight behind her.
She found that she was running out of footing for her arguments. Luis uttered a small sigh as she reached up and rubbed her forehead as she paused nearby where Critter spun in lopsided circles, "Why not make a job of takin' care of yer pet?"
Faris wiggled a bit as her gaze flicked to Critter and she let out a short laugh, "Critter not petses! Critter is fam'ly! Like we are. Sarson is more of a petses than he is!"
Oh great the girl abducted that umbrella eating thing into the family. Luis let out a deep sigh as she left the odd creature continue spinning where it was and knew Faris was behind her for she felt the child's weight at her vest as she moved to the door that lead down into the tavern. She really did need a dishwasher and it would cut out the need to interview or even advertise for help in the first place, "Fine! Fine, yer job is t'wash th' dishes as ye get 'em girlie. Ye'll get the same wage as the last washer got an' no more. Ye do good I might give ye a raise like I do m'other staff. Complain an yer off the job," Luis said firmly as she pulled the door open and started down stairs and behind her the Gargoyle gave joyful squeal and let go of the vest and trailed after her guardian with a bounce in her feet and her tail wiggling a bit behind her. "Yer not allowed t'be late either. Not unless ye 'ave a good reason f'r it like yer runnin' an errand f'me or somethin', got it?"
The Gargoyle hid her grin and giggle behind her hand, "Yes Boss-lady," she chirruped.
Luis chuckled dryly and lead the girl down into the tavern and eventually into the kitchen and took the start of the afternoon to teach the girl how to efficiently clean and take care of the dishes before they piled up massively and overwhelmed her on the first day. It was better than sending her daughter to waitress into a throng of drunks and if she had set the girl to serving drinks the Satyress would have found her liquor license flying out the door faster than she could blink. Washing dishes and perhaps cleaning up after hours - depending on how the first job went - was the best compromise. Soon Faris was left to do her work on her own while Luis attended to other Tavern business.
Faris learned quickly and soon was very thrilled to be working on her own. She worked determinedly and hard as she hummed a small happy tune to herself - she had a job now! Wait until Evari found out! She'll be so jealous! Maybe she could buy her friend a gift with the money she earned. The Gargoyle grinned happily as she washed the dishes and daydreamed.

THE BOY'S CLUB I W A N T I N ! It had been raining for a week and then some more earlier in the day and it left parts of the park in a state that was better described as a 'swamp' without the dangerous creatures that lurked under the murky waters. Now it was sunny and bright but it wasn't enough to soak up the rain if anything it upgraded it a bit to 'heavily muddy' which made it an ideal condition for those that wished to play various sport games that involved a lot of heavy contact and tearing up the terrain.
No disrespect to the keepers of the park but seriously the grass would totally grow back in a few weeks.
Faris was watching a group of boys while they tossed a ball around and tackled each other with little or no gentleness involved in the act at all. They were all laughing and muddy and truth be told it looked like a whole lot of fun. The small Gargoyle wiggled on the damp grassy spot where she sat as she watched them as the afternoon sun was kindly off of her and evening was soon coming supplying her with energy. Maybe she could play but then again they probably wouldn't want her to! She pouted a bit as she stared at them.
After all what did they have that she didn't...?
She didn't have long to ponder too deeply when one of the boys made an errant dive for a ball and stopped just short of bumbling into her in his excitement to get at the equally errant football. She hugged her knees up to her chest and stared at the muddied boy with wide eyes and after regaining his senses the boy stared back up at her and a thought occurred.
They were a player short! Sure this kid was a little on the small side but they looked pretty damn tough! In fact this kid looked like they were carved out of rock. Which made it that much more awesome in the boy's mind, "Hey kid! Come play with us! You can be on my team!" the strange boy commanded as he offered his hand down. "You can play football right?"
Faris stared down at the hand and stared up at him in confusion couldn't he tell that she was going to hurt them or even wasn't like them...She wanted to play the game too! It was called football? "What is football?" the Gargoyle asked out loud as she took the boy's hand and got up as she observed that he looked around Kay's age but burlier and thicker built, maybe they would be okay as she walked with him back to the grouping of other boys.
The boy let go of the hand as they walked back to the other and gave the weird kid a quick rundown of how the game worked and where the goals were on the 'field'. One of the older boys jerked a thumb toward Faris, "Who is the new boy?"
Faris took in the new information and then blinked at the older boy as he called her a boy. They couldn't tell?
"Don't you think the horns'll hurt? What about his tail an' the wings?" The older boy continued to ask before his first question was even answered and for a moment Faris was too overwhelmed to answer until the boy that brought her forth clapped her on the back a bit to knock her out of whatever daze she seemed to be in.
She shook her head a bit and went with it, her voice was gender neutral not that she had any concept of any of such a thing, "I y'am Fah'r," the Gargoyle introduced ... himself under what seemed even more boyish name than with just 'Faris'. The Gargoyle even deepened 'his' voice a bit. "I y'am gon' fine. You guys thinkses you can handle even playin' wit' me?"
Bravado that's all 'he' needed. The boys stared and then laughed and soon the game ensued.
The game was rough and tough and most of the time 'he' had hurt the others more than they hurt 'him'. Fah'r got many a goal for 'his' team and by the time the game was over it was getting quite dark and it was time for dinner and everyone dispersed with a promise of doing this again. They were all muddy and bruised and Fah'r was mostly just muddy instead of bruised, 'he' felt proud of this fact and even prouder that they wanted to play with 'him' again one day.
Fah'r was Faris again and ... 'he' was once more a girl. It was an odd pang that she felt when she stared after the retreating boys. It was so much fun and comfortable why did it have to end? She didn't understand. Would she always be able to play like this with the boys? She certainly hoped so.
Why did it have to end there? Maybe Faris was actually a boy? Yes, that was right! Otherwise why did they accept her like that? With these new confused thoughts in her head she ran back home for dinner.

MARTIAL ARTS A R T W I T H P R E C I S I O N Faris had gotten home a few moments ago from her first lessons in Martial Arts. She had gone the Chinese Martial Arts route since that was what she was more familiar with from all the movies she had watched. Her Shifu was a funny man though a tad bit humorless when it came to his name which was Jackie Chan. Shifu Chan was not an actor nor a stuntman or anything other than a professional and quite learned Kung Fu Master in most if not all styles he was also some years younger than his 'namesake'. The only statement Shifu Chan made about his name was that he made his parents pay for his name with countless antics. Despite the stern and gruff behavior of her teacher Faris found him to be quite delightful and looked forward to further lessons.
The Gargoyle was still so pumped up from lessons that she was ushered out to the backyard so she could burn what was left of her energy before bedtime. Faris did some stretches and deep breathing exercises as she tried hard to find her focus once more. She wanted to practice and make Shifu Chan proud of her so that way they could make more progress and she could learn more moves. She liked the calm that rushed over her while they practiced but she found even now that she was outside and was able to just listen to herself and her own breathing that she was able to concentrate that much more and her focus came upon her almost like a rushing wave and enveloped her warmly. A serene smile passed over her lips as she started to go through the motions of what she had learned that day.
Each movement of force, each thrust was accented by a soft sound from Faris' lips.
"Hah! Hi'ya! Huh~!"
Faris wore weights upon her wrists, legs, and tail to help her better control her swing thus make her much more aware of her own movements and even her own tail. Her wings were tucked in close to her back as she worked going through the routine that she was asked to practice when she wasn't in class. At first she was worried that the weights would be distracting but instead she found them reassuring as she worked along her eyes staring forward with determination as she continued on.
She was so focused on her motions that she didn't realize what was going on around her. Rocks (much larger than the pebbles she carried) from the surrounding garden began to shift and move free of their spots even the ground under the path of her fists and feet began to shift and move it wasn't until that she collapsed because of a misplaced foot and yanked out of her place of focus that she realized that everything around her was now very much misplaced and in chaos. Faris reached up and ruffled her much longer hair and uttered a soft, "Yikes." under her breath.
Then finally it hit her! She could do more now. A little more excited she sat up a bit and began to move a hand just overt he ground, the ground responded by forming a small divot that had a slightly higher wall from where her fingertips were pointing to. Faris made a motion of erasing something and the ground went flat. Faris let out a small squeal as she wiggled in place and suddenly began to set things right again though it was much harder than when she discovered the tricks with the pebbles and eventually molding them but she didn't want to leave the garden a gigantic mess for her mother so she had to fix it!
The Gargoyle figured it was her fault and thus she must fix it!
By the time she was done she was worn out as she dragged herself in. She gave her mother a kiss on the cheek and then flopped her way to bed where darkness soon rushed up to envelope her once more. She had wonderful dreams about moving even the biggest of mountains.

DEAR JOURNAL S O P R O U D Dearest Farrel;
She adapts so well to everything that happens no matter what the change is. Farrel you'd love her as much as I do. We got another addition to the family and instead of sulkin' and thinkin' of herself she helped me make room for the boy. Unlike with Faris he had a name already....He called himself 'Wolfram'.
Faris seems on-and-off fond of the boy and the boy seems to have quite the trouble makin' way about him that I think gets under her skin from time to time. I think he enjoys trying to get under everyone's skin and tryin' to get a reaction. Faris just seems to dance to his tune makes me wonder who the real puppet is out of those two.
Our girl got herself a job at our tavern, Love. She is washin' the dishes and after a bit of time I gotten to let her to help me clean up durin' closin' time. Course I don't let her handle the drinks or nothin' that would just end horribly haha.
She's gonna grow up to be a fine lass though. I can see it but sometimes I think she's a little confused...Everytime I call to her as 'girl' she doesn't seem to listen to it. Does she already think herself a woman? Haha. Maybe not. I don't know. I think I'll just call her Faris just so I am sure I got her attention...
I get the feeling that this is a bigger issue than I am lettin' myself believe but I just don't know what to do. I could use some guidance.
~ Luis

THAT ISN'T YOURS!!! G I V E S I T B A C K ! "Woof!"
Wolfram's eyebrow twitched a bit and he ignored it. That was not his name no matter how many times his sister insisted on using it and he wasn't going to listen to it. Ever since she called him by that name and responded to it once she had decided that would be his nickname forever and ever and he had no say in it. He'd just see about that.
"Woof!" the voice was angry, annoyed, even more so now that he had decided to ignore her.
He continued to fiddle with the handheld game system and hum a bit in order to drown out the voice. Wolfram wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of a response but wait...How did he get a hold of this game system? It wasn't his though he vaguely recalled that his sister, Faris, had one in her possession not too long ago. Huh! That was quite the coincidence. Oh well, it was his now no matter where ever it came from. He hummed loudly and obnoxiously along to the music that streamed out of the handheld game and was content to ignore the voice calling for him by the wrong name.
Faris stormed over and stood next to him and staring her hands placed upon her hips as she glared down at him, "WOLFRAM," she yelled quite displeased at the fact that he was ignoring her.
The messy haired boy jumped a bit and glanced up at her curiously. Was that his name? He wasn't quite sure anymore the shock to his system seemed to have suddenly given him a case of amnesia. Yep. That is totally what happened he turned back toward the game and focused on that. Maybe playing the game would help him get his memory back!
She let out a small growl as she moved behind him and grabbed at the cheeks of his face with her fingertips and pulled at them, though not too hard, "Woof, Woof, Woof!" she whined as she pulled trying to get and keep his attention. He had her game system! It was hers she saw her name written on the top part of it! How dare he try to pretend otherwise! It made her so...AUGH.
"Not polite to bark," he replied, "you're a gargoyle not a dog~...Sometimes wonder if there is a difference," Wolfram smirked a bit as he played for some reason he liked working his sister up into a fever pitch. "Now let go of my face, it's starting to hurt."
Faris huffed and threw her arms around his head and hugged, she careful not to bump into the strings or crossbar. Her arms obstructed Wolfram's vision of the game's screen. "Gives it back Wolfram 'r'else!"
"Oh was this yours?" Wolfram replied with an honestly shocked voice. The young boy had seen it lying about and just plucked it up and claimed it at his own. Sure he had seen the name written on it but that seemed to do little to prevent him from claiming it, "I was just ... borrowing it."
"Borrows means you asks first! Not after you plays with it a whiles," Faris insisted and rested her chin on top of his head, her horns just grazed under the slightly low floating crossbar. Her arms unwrapped from Wolfram's head and reached for the game, "I paids for it gimme, pleases? Woof it is not fair you take my things," she whined again with a small frown. The Gargoyle didn't want to hurt her brother but she did want her handheld back very badly she wanted to play with it. She had worked so hard to help Mama around the tavern by doing dishes to get enough money for it.
Wolfram uttered a small disappointed sigh as he turned off the game and offered it up to his sister having had enough of her pleading besides she wouldn't leave him alone until she got it back, "Can I borrow it later?" he asked swallowing just a bit of his pride to get the question out.
Faris let out a happy keen as she plucked it up and disentangled herself from her brother and hugged the handheld game system to her chest. Her green eyes narrowed a bit over at her brother as he actually asked for the game. Her wings twitched a bit and her tail swayed side to side before she finally said, "Yeahs. I'm not a mean-face like you," she grinned and stuck her tongue out at him.
He rolled his golden eyes at her words and stuck his tongue back out at her, "Thanks," he replied as he got out of his seat and went to hunt the kitchens for something edible. Being so bratty seemed to have worked up his appetite, plus his cheeks hurt, maybe nicking some ice cream from the fridge would help!
