"It depends on what it's made of, and what you're hitting that knife against. Though smaller does sometimes mean thinner, so they could break easier." He smiled at Raine's surprise, carefully setting one of his middle sized knives into her hand. "Hopefully I can show you as well as you showed me." He walked up to the tree to retrieve his knives, paused, made a large visible scar into the bark, then came back. "It'll probably be easier if you have something to aim for. Like when throwing a ball." He turned, pointing. Then he took her hand and arranged her fingers how he thought might be good for her. "This knife is lighter, so holding it this way should give you the most control over it. Then you just pull back, focus your eyes on the target and throw forward. Make sure you let go right before your reach ends. You don't want to hold it to long and throw it down at your paws."

"Ah." Raine nodded before swallowing. "Hopefully." She laughed softly, "We'd have to witness another miracle though." Her fingers curled around the handle surprised at the coolness of it.
It was light as well. Raine's hand supported the weight easily, "Alright. I'll aim for that then." She whispered focusing on the scar. The wolftaur had grown still though as her fingers were arranged on the handle. Unlike the knife, Blake's touch was warm. A nice warmth.
Raine blinked. I need to focus. "Okay. So...I guess I better try now." She looked up at Blake and grinned before focusing once more on that scar. Don't throw in at the ground, but at the tree. Her arm quickly pulled back and the knife went flying...except it went flying backwards into the ground since her hand had lost its grip. "Oh!"
Raine opened her eyes sheepishly. "I think...I missed."

"Hey, you never know." He said encouragingly. Standing behind and to the side, he watched Raine's form closely. Maybe too closely, for which he gave himself a mental smack. Who knew someone older could look so- "Whoa!!" He yelped. He was plenty clear of the blade's edge, but still jumped when it fell prematurely from the female's hand. "Well, that's a miracle you didn't catch your tail with that!" He exclaimed in surprise, walking up and giving her back a pat, trying to be cheerful. "Well, lesson learned. Better pick it up and try again. You know what not to do now."

"Sorry." Raine blushed as she realized how badly she had done. It seemed that she needed to work on actually holding the blade. Just the thought made the wolftaur's tail droop, "It's a miracle alright." She smiled faintly before blinking in surprise.
"Try again?" Raine looked up at Blake with wide eyes, "You really want me to try again?" She asked in disbelief. Akemi would've locked up any nearby knives by now so she couldn't even look at one let alone try again.
She walked over and searched for the knife. "Oh boy." Raine's blush deepened as she realized something. "Blake I think it went into the bushes." The wolftaur frowned and started shifting through foliage looking for the knife. She knew it was here somewhere...

Blake nodded. "Well, why not? It was only your first time... I hope." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Besides, you seem like the type to not repeat mistakes." When Raine didn't return with the knife, then announced it missing, Blake's ears flipped back. Those were new... "Careful with your hands there! Who knows how that blade landed." He called, padding quickly to help look. "Shouldn't be too far."

"Thanks. We'll see if I learned anything from that mistake after we find it." Raine pushed down the turmoil in her stomach. There was no way that she had lost something that important to Blake!
"Ah. You too, Blake." Raine sighed as she started shifting through the leaves. Surely it wasn't going to be that difficult...she hoped. "I'm sorry, Blake. Really, really sorry." Whispered Raine as she looked. With silent pleas, Raine started compiling a list of good weapon shops as she nearly gave up hope of finding the knife. She would have to get one for Blake. A whole new set to make up for the lost-
Raine's eyes widened as she gasped. "Oh!" There glittering past an empty spot of leaves was the hint of a metal blade. It had to be the knife! Without another thought Raine reached for it.

Blake nodded slightly. "I know, I know..." He felt bad that he couldn't keep the disappointment from his voice, seeing that Raine was upset. Well, he'd rather she be upset than not care at all about his belongings. He had moved a few feet into the brush when Raine exclaimed. He stood quickly, looking over at her. "Find it?"

"Ouch!" Raine yelped and quickly brought her hand back from the bushes. Yup, she definitely found it. With a grimace the wolftaur pulled out the knife.
"Must've had some thorns in those bushes." She commented softly hiding her left hand carefully against her side. "But here it is!" Raine nodded as she waved the knife towards Blake. "Sorry about losing it like that, Blake."
Her tail drooped slightly as she whispered to herself, "Didn't take long for the teacher to become a klutz, did it?"

Like when his daughter yelped in pain, Raine's "ouch" tugged at Blake's gut. "Raine!" He hurried over, but she had already bent back and pulled the knife up for him. He neither heard her whisper nor saw her mouth move, more focused on the hand she was hiding. "Thorns?" He said, more a questioning statement, the tone he used when he didn't entirely believe someone. Immediately reminding himself who he was talking to, someone not a child, he blushed and moved on, though his eyes unwittingly stayed on her hidden arm. "You didn't lose it, you misplaced it. You found it pretty quickly. Thanks." Tearing his eyes back up, he grinned and gently took the knife back, wiping off the dirt with a finger, plus a tiny bit of something else... "Did the thorn go very deep?" He asked without looking back up, taking his time picking at the dirt. Had his knife really hurt a friend...?

"Yes, a thorn." Raine's voice was a bit icy, the same tone she used whenever she was trying to get the twins to behave...or at least not ask questions about something anyways. Raine blushed faintly, "You're welcome." Her voice came out shaky. Really she should be thanking him for not getting angry at her.
"Deep?" Raine quickly shook her head and held out both hands in denial. Too late she realized that her hand was still bleeding faintly from the sliver of a cut that ran down the bottom of index finger to the palm. "Really, it's not bad!" She gasped moving her hand back, "Anyways it's not the first time I've been cut either by a...thorn. Totally my fault for not looking carefully."

Ears twitching at the tone sent back to him, he couldn't help to chuckle. 'Touché.' He thought to himself. The change from icy to shaky caught his attention as well, and he lowered his eyes to his knife when she held out her hands, the bit of blood obvious on Raine's pale blue skin. "As long as it's not bad." He said softly, walking back to his bag without looking at her. No matter what she said, he still thought it was his knife that had broken her skin, and it bothered him greatly. His knives had never hurt someone other than his intended prey. He had nicked his own hand before, but... Today, it was just a small cut on a finger. What would it be next time though? A hand sliced open? Something worse? Naturally, he had to hide his thoughts before Raine could notice. He pulled his back straight again and laughed as he sat next to the bag, fishing around for his cleaning rag. "Maybe I should be hunting with the thorns instead of the knives then!"

"It's not really." Whispered Raine as she moved towards Blake. Was something wrong? The wolftaur frowned, had she done something to upset him? Or....
But she didn't dwell on any of those thoughts since he bounced back with a joke. "Maybe!" She laughed softly, "They can be quite dangerous." Her hand clenched to help stop the faint bleeding before she frowned.
"But then again so can many things." Raine nodded, "Even grass can cut!" She paused with a faint blush, "I mean...surely if the circumstances are right."
"Hey." Raine moved towards her own supplies, "How bout we not dwell on this anymore?" She looked back towards Blake with a grin, "I brought plenty of food if you're hungry."

Blake was smiling as he pulling out his cleaning cloth, wiping at the knife. "Grass?" He asked, perking his ears. "I suppose that's why they're called 'blades' of grass." He sighed mentally. Raine was right. They were both okay, nothing major. He lifted his head, tilting it to the side. "Actually, a small bite would be good about now." Realization hit that in his haste to get away, he had left his bag of food at the sitter's house. Had he not been holding his knife, he would have smacked his forehead. "What do you have?"

"Great!" Raine hummed as she started shifting through her small pack. Soon enough her hands found the warm package that was tightly wrapped. "I have food." She teased before starting to open the package, "Just some dried stuff, sorry I couldn't stick one of my famous stews in my stuff."
Raine grinned and held up an old, but clean deer pelt. "If you'll spread this out then we can lay everything on the ground, Blake." She threw the pelt towards him and started to pick out everything.
Venison, dried nuts and berries, fresh bread, and even a bit of cheese. Raine's tail danced happily. She was glad that she believed in packing extra food no matter where she went! Her expression flickered in slight humor, the twins' random appearances usually took care of the food though.
They must be away in town or something. I hope they're behaving...surely. Raine nodded before she tore at a tight string with her teeth.

Finishing off the blade, Blake carefully tucked it back into his bag, discovering a stick of chicken jerky in the process. "Well, I can contribute something." He shook his head, turning just in time to catch the pelt. He nodded and walked a little closer before throwing out the pelt, pulling it open to it's full length. He sat next to it, looked at his stick of jerky, then tossed it disgracefully into the center of the pelt. "It's chicken, if you want it." He said bashfully, turning slightly pink almost up to his ears. How stupid he must look, but if he had anything, he wanted to share it when Raine was so willing to do the same when she hadn't planned a guest.
