Wuyabi It isn't anywhere in the lawbooks, but that won't stop something like that allegation from... well, being alleged. Comic Book stores have been sued... and lost... for that same allegation; not because they did corrupt youth (through selling salacious materials to minors, in this case) but because they could have. And all because some sue happy parent got a hold of a money grubbing lawyer. Gaia is only trying to put on a good public face. If they don't, they run the risk of earning the public's ire. As a young and growing business, they literally can't afford to make the source of their business-- ultimately, the parents-- angry. Can you show me a news article on that? Or some other source? I'm all for putting cigs in sigs, and would do it, save my two creepy stalkers ._. Who are convinced I am a boy because my Halloween Boy avatar and will probably spam me, despite the obvious fact I do indeed, not have a penor. So, wouldn't putting a pic up convince them they're mistaken? Zaquel Woah, I just paid the GCD a visit for the first time in ages and out of the 30 non-stickied threads on the first page, 24 were about the smoking ban. xD
What annoys me slightly more than the ban of tobacco-themed items is the fact that now some users have them, but no-one else will be able to get them, ever. Unless they want to shell out hundreds of thousands of gold for the Carol items, which only provide substitutes. And that still won't give me a pipe. Now that I can't get a pipe, I want one so badly.
Curse my habit of regularly cleaning out my inventory of unused items. stressed I always wanted a pipe we could hold.[/] Not like the Kieresu, or whatever, but a real old fashioned english gent pipe that wasn't stuck in our mouth continually.
Guess THAT will never happen, now.
I just don't get it... most of the smoking items were old, but Gambino's cigar is relatively recent... How can they just reverse their position all of a sudden?

Yes. Save for the fact these people somehow got a hold of my IM and I have shown them pictures before, just..sort of androgynous ones (I can't help it if I like those ones more u.u )I've already ignore listed some but..I think it comes with running a charity in an event forum. You get the psychos along with the nice people.

There is too much to read in that link. And it isn't even a reliable source. Sure, you can look up some of those things and they turn out to be true but that isn't the point. What Tim could be looking for is like a news station talking about it. Just something that has better credentials.

Zaquel I'm kinda split on this. I'm all for eradicating smoking, and it's a fact that seeing other people smoking will make it harder for a smoker to quit or control urges.
But I really hate having items removed or restricted. Especially without warning! Gah.
The Carol of O'l Ebeneezer has a cigar pose. If they change it I will be annoyed. x: You and me both. I have a mobster outfit that NEEDS that pose.

The Frogger I wasn't too pissed off about it, since the only cig I ever had was given to me by the Overseer. Which I took a screen cap since it was supposed to be the 'all knowing' Overseer at that point. xD
And one of the threads in the GCD said that it might not be permanent. Gaia might just be doing this to just go along with 'Great American Smokeout'..which I never knew even existed >>; The heck is that? when did some ungovermental group decide they had control over the world? This reminds me of those idiots in that one group that go around looking for lawsuits about religion. THIS SHOULD BE AGAINST US LAW!!!! It's unconstitutional. Where did my rights to the pursuit of happyness and freedom of religion go to?

TokioDoII shiny. but I'm sure a couple moms would freak if their kid went out and bought some o' dem cigs. rolled up paper and red marker FTW! or I could descreetly steal one from my brother. Then couldn't we have an age barrier? Likse some kinda thing that makes it where if you want to by a cig or the like you had to be of legal consuming age? I mean people below 13 ARE on this site (but their not supposed to be.) And when their found out their banned. Couldn't this be seen in the same light?

The smokeout is basically a giant support group smokers quit smoking for one day to try and break the habit.
And they are not breaking the first amendment. Gaia is a private company and can take and give items as it pleases. If they decided that we could not talk about tobacco at all that may be a different thing all together. But that isn't what they are doing.

If Mattel (Or insert example here) were to pull an item from their line with no proper explanation, people would complain, but they still wouldn't have to tell. But Mattel doesn't promote 'we are a community'. It's with that aspect that I feel Gaia should give us some sort of explanation, even if it's not a full detailed whoo-hah. A simple 'It's for legal reasons' or '-insert explanation here-' would suffice. But then again, Gaia is a private company and doesn't have to do this.

Wuyabi For "corrupting the youth," or whatever lame duck stance church (or for that matter, health based) organizations, and-- this is key here -- their lawyers-- can come up with. I'm not happy about this either, but you have to remember, Gaia is a business that is just beginning to gain a presence in the mind of the general public, and when presenting oneself to a large group, whether personal or professional, it's best to try not to offend people with an axe to grind and the means to do something about it. And Gaia is PG-13, emphasis on PG --kids younger than 13 are allowed to come here with parental guidance, and I bet there's a lot more parents checking out Gaia than we realize. Gaia is mostly a site aimed at kids and teens these days, (just like Neopets transitioned from college kids to kids) but parents control the purse strings, so the mods are doing their best to please them.Kids under 13 are NOT allowed on this site. I know this because my girlfriends brother is 12 and had an account on here that his mother KNEW about and allowed. They still banned him until he is of age. Facts my friend, facts. GAIA'S NOT SELLING CIGARETTES!!!! Their selling a smal image that reminds people of cigarettes. Their not promoting it. I've NEVER seen a Camel's advertisement or the like and so they can't say once to or otherwise that Gaia is promoting something their obviously not. People buy it cause it looks nice. period. the thought that a small image that few people think of as a real cigarette (if you do your a nut job) would broadcast the propaganda strong enough to encourage smoking is unheard of by far, ridiculous, and unable to be called fact in any form relating to the term. So now it boils down to people in administrative ranks not clearly thinking things out. As we have clearly seen this past halloween. No fact IS. Or otherwise can be shown that an image of a cigarette is more likely to encourage use of nicotine and tobacco products. REAL tobacco is much more encouraging. Flavors like Diet coke, Energy Drink, Grape, Green Apple, chocolate(I've seen it in cigars so don't slam me on this one.), Peppermint, Toffee, Watermelon and the like (cherry is a main seller) are much more enclined to reel in younger smokers since they remind them of candy and things they like. So no. An image is far less tasteful than a true to true cigarette.

I wonder whats next? Gaia guns or Gaia Booze? or Gaia fetish clothing? or Gaia hookers (rent a date people) or maybe Gaiabreast augmenting clothing? or gaia ladies underwear (I've seen far worse through Real Mall windows.) It won't stop till were all robots and look alike and talk alike. This is freaking socialism in the making. I say that jokingly but who knows what may hapen next.
