Rinel chittered nervously before she actually dared to land on Kannaroth, her feelings changing from a frightened flit to one who was extremely happy. L'pin was pretty sure anyone in the area could feel that, the Green broadcasting loudly, and above him Shamth gave some kind of remark that all Greens were stupid and deserved to be with one another. If only to rid himself of the trouble, of course.

"Shamth doesn't like Rinel, so I guess he does now and then. Since she's always on me or inside my shirt he feels like she's trying to get more of a connection towards me than he'll ever have, so it's something like jealousy mixed with childish hatred. It's actually really amusing."

L'pin did find it funny to watch how snappy his massive Blue could be at something not even a hundredth of his size, and sometimes it was the only entertainment he'd have while working alone. The Candidates who'd talk to him now and then seemed to have stopped recently, even though Shamth was not around to be menacing, leaving him by himself during trench work and other duties. It was a little lonely, but nothing that promoted being pathetic and complaining to others.

"You should see Shamth when she Rises. He can't stand all the firelizards that show up to be with her, it's really funny."

You act as though I am the only one to cause trouble. That Failure before us will cause more strife in this Weyr than you can ever imagine.

Shamth's words were thin like a warning, his eyes swirling red despite not seeming to be seething any anger. L'pin frowned as he pondered what his dragon could mean, but knowing Shamth it was probably something he shouldn't and wouldn't dwell on too long.

You really seem eager. Are you interested, Shamth?

No, but you are. In that boy, in that failure. Are you wanting a companion?

L'pin gave a visible shrug. His eyes moved from Y'kar's face and over to Kannaroth, still a seat for Rinel, before they finally went upwards towards the towering Blue.

Not really. But it is nice to talk to someone.

Jealousy and hate, now there were things he and Kannaroth could relate to. Perhaps they were a little like Shamth in some ways, yes, they were more subtle though, slier. The world they lived in right now, one which saw them as a nuisance, would never be enough. Bit by bit however they would chip away at this way of life, and break through into something better. They would triumph in the end, they along with Kannaroth's sisters and their riders. The world was not strong enough to resist them.

"Poor Shamth," Y'kar gave a lopsided grin, "doesn't like her getting all that attention..." Now what was L'pin shrugging over, and why had he looked their way before looking back to his lifemate? What were the pair talking about? Well, he supposed he wasn't going to find out in a hurry.

Kannaroth gave him a pointed nudge then, and after glancing to her, Y'kar turned to L'pin with an apologetic smile. "I really have to go now, Kanna's hungry... Look though, I've really liked talking to you. Maybe we could hang out again sometime?" Maybe somewhere inside so the damned blue wouldn't be around to glare and posture; he'd had more than his fill of the brute for a lifetime, but the rider could be useful so he supposed he could tolerate the animal.

"Don't let him hear you pitying him, he might just try and see what else he can get out of you."

L'pin gave another chuckle at Y'kar's comment, pleased that it seemed someone would at least mention his dragon's name with the word 'poor' - but in the way of saying that he wasn't entirely useless. Or perhaps that's what this kid had meant all along and Y'kar was being sarcastic, but L'pin could let it slide off his shoulders either way. He'd had enough insults tossed his way over the years for them to not even sting.

Of course, that didn't mean he could tolerate them. It simply meant he'd be getting his revenge towards whomever belittled his dragon later in a more subtle way. L'pin had nothing to lose, short of being sent out of the Weyr to another, or banished all together. He was pretty sure he'd be able to survive on his own, but . . .

When the boy interrupted his train of thoughts with talks of feeding his little dragon, L'pin grinned and nodded his head to allow the boy dismissal. He could understand the growing pains of a dragonet, Shamth had been a particularly ravenous one.

"No no, go ahead. Sorry you had to take a bath with someone else, I'm sure you'd rather have been soaking alone. And sure, I wouldn't mind seeing you again. It'll be interesting to watch the drama unfold between these two, if nothing else."

L'pin jerked his thumb back at the head of his dragon, Shamth having lowered down so much that the tip of his snout was touching the water's surface. His eyes remained that whirling red, grumbles coming from his throat, though he did not speak to his rider or to the pair before him. Instead he merely watched, gaze following Rinel as she responded to L'pin's whistle and reluctantly left Kannaroth.

"See you around, and take care."

He didn't make to leave, L'pins very sore muscles telling him a bit more in the water he wasn't too fond of would leave him feeling much better come the next day. Rinel had taken her familiar perch atop his head and was sending her tail to spiral down his neck, sad looking out. She was happy to be with L'pin, she loved him, but very sad to see the bigger sister go.

Shamth, on the other hand, gave the true parting words.

Soon.

"Yea, that certainly sounds... interesting," Y'kar grinned and elbowed Kannaroth, who grumbled at him. "See you around then L'pin, and take care yourself!" And that was that over with. Shooting the blue rider a last smile, Y'kar waded out of the lake and dried himself swiftly before dressing and giving Kannaroth a quick pat down.

All in all, he considered as they set off back towards the Weyr, that had gone well... Though there was the matter of that blue. The rider might be useful but the dragon was a danger; he made a mental note to forewarn the others about Shamth, and his apparent hatred of Kannaroth. He didn't want anyone on edge, but he did want them to know what might be going on if Kannaroth called out to her sisters for aid against the beast. He didn't want it to come to fighting, their reputation didn't need that knock, but if Shamth backed Kannaroth into a corner and insisted on violence, she was going to need back up in short order.

"Mmm. Yes. Speed's no good to me if I have nowhere to move," the small green mused. "I shall have to make sure never to put my back to a wall when he's around." Though she would of course forget thinking this, she had no doubt that when faced with the blue again she would be aware of his temper, and how it was safest of act.

Y'kar smiled slightly and gave her a pat; Shamth might be a dangerous brute, but he trusted her to handle whatever he threw at her. She was far too smart to be taken down by some beast with the brains and temper of a wher.
