"I'm taking a break," Rhian chirped, rubbing Bert's belly with one hand and scratching Contessa's ears with the other. "The puppies wanted attention, and Mama and Faolan are. ... busy."

"Yeah, I know. I kind of scooted past there really fast on my way up," Zia said, going on to flop down beside her, stroking Contessa's ears, too. "You doing alright?"

Rhian shrugged. "I miss Lauss-teacher," she said quietly, antennae-glow dimming to near non-existance. She picked Bert up and cuddled the fat little puppy to her chest, tears rising in her eyes as she thought about her absent boyfriend.

Zia sighed. "I miss Crux, too. He came by for a little bit, but it now it feels like forever since he's been by. I'm sure Mama and Fao will let you see Lauss again soon."

Rhian shrugged a little, her glow still dimmed, and she wiped at her eyes hurriedly. "I hope you're right, Sibling-Ziazan, but. . . I'm scared you're not. What if - what if Lauss-teacher doesn't even want to see me any more? What if he found someone smarter, nicer? Someone more special?"

"Victorian Era," Zia corrected gently. "I'd forgotten he liked that so much. I bet Mama and Faolan would let you go somewhere with me. We could go to the seamstress and have a Victorian dress made for you to surprise Lauss with when you two can start seeing each other again."

"Well, sure. They're only keeping you two apart out of concern. I bet when Lee gets back, the very next day Lauss will be here to hug you," Zia said, looking a little sad that one of them would have the object of their affection near again, but it wouldn't be Crux.

Rhian shook her head, but stopped feeling sorry for herself when she sensed Zia's distress, and dropped Bert to the floor in order to hug her older sibling. "I'm sorry, Sibling-Ziazan. . . I'm here. . . I'm not Crux, but I'm here."

Bert yelped as he was dropped.
Zia sighed, hugging her back. "You might want to check on the dog. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to drop puppies."

Rhian blinked. "I was sitting down, but okay. . . " And she scooped Bert back up, apologizing to the little wrinkle-ball and cheking him over. Contessa just huffed like she believed everyone in the room was being silly, and trotted off to find Mistress and Mr. Mud.
