RTD is sufficient of a Who geek I wouldn't put it past him...

The Massacre of St Bartolomew's Eve was a 60s story, in which the Doctor and Co left behind a young Frenchwoman to uncertain fate. A bew companion was introduced at the end of the story, in the present day, and it was originally going to be implied she was a descendant of the woman in question; however, the idea got cut from everything but the novelisation)
