She grinned. "No, not a hurry. Just..." she glanced away, embarrassed now. "IGotALittleNervous,That'sAll. Feylith and I..." she glanced up at her dragon, who nosed the top of her head adoringly. "Well, my nerves get a little raw sometimes, and it makes it a bit hard to keep us separate." she admitted finally. She somehow felt like she was losing, in admitting it. She glanced over at the items down the beach, then finally gave L'pin another grin and a shrug. "Would you like to have lunch before we go back?" It wouldn't take long, and it would free her to have something to take the egg back in. Feylith, mine, would you bring the straps and the bag over this way?
The dragon moved away reluctantly, but was back in a few moments with the things His had asked for.
"As for the person getting this little one..." she reached out, stroking the egg. "It's going to a new Candidate, someone I knew a bit growing up. She's... slow to adjust, I guess? So I figure if it hatches, well, maybe it would help her settle in." she gave a small shrug. "So I guess I'm technically going back to the Weyr, but I may come back out here later and show Feylith how to surf." she scratched her dragon's large head, the blue careful not to brush the other rider and stay close to His. "As for the last flit, I don't have any plans for it. Did you have someone you wanted to give it to?"

"I don't have any friends in the Weyr, or the hold, so no. You're free to do with it as you please, I wouldn't care if you left here on the sands. It'll hatch and be fine that way."
L'pin had gotten the bag from his saddle and was filling it with sand, enough that he dropped the egg in about halfway before pouring more over it. Shamth was standing over him watching, the occasional puff of his breathing ruffling the hair of His. It seemed they were in a conversation with one another, though whatever it was about probably would remain unknown to anyone but the pair.
After a few moments the rider finally turned back to the girl, a smile on her face.
"I don't mind eating with you, it'd be a shame to let the food go to waste. It probably can't survive another round of cold from between, so I would be more than happy to clear out your supply. Shamth says he'll be going somewhere for the time being, so we can take our time."
Almost as soon as L'pin finished speaking the massive Blue next to him spread his wings, moving towards open sands. With something that sounded like a scream and a hiss Shamth took off into the air, disappearing quickly from sight as he went between.
"Shall we then?"

She smiled at the other rider, dropping cross-legged to the sand and pulling the food from the bag. She glanced up, frowning with mild concern as Shamth disappeared with what sounded like a noise of protest. Could dragons safely do that without their riders? Apparently so, because L'pin wasn't panicking in the few moments it would have taken if something had happened to Shamth.
Feylith didn't like the idea of leaving, but he did back away, out of respect for the fact that other dragon had left as much as a desire to flop down heavily on his side in the warm white sand and writhe. He did so like the way the grains felt, and His would pluck them out later, so if a few got in places they shouldn't, Tethis would make it better.
It was a veritable feast. Some of the rare meatrolls, and a small chunk of cheese that looked like it would cut nicely. Bubbly pies that were fresh from the ovens when she'd gotten them, and a container of klah. There was even a little bit of soup, and her ever-trusty Benden wine. "Can I ask where he went?" she was sure the other rider would know she referred to his dragon.

"Hmm? I don't know, but he'll be back soon."
There was no hint of concern in L'pin's voice, not even a slight trace of worry. He knew where Shamth had gone, he'd sent the image to him specifically, and had even given him a task. But he wouldn't tell this to Tethis, she really didn't need to know.
At the sight of all the food L'pin nearly began to drool, but he did his best to keep his cool and his manners. He hadn't eaten all day, not even stopping for breaks while digging, so the sight of everything spread before him was like a feast left to a beggar.
"You'd better pick out your share before I eat it all. Back when I was a Candidate people used to call me a bottomless pit thanks to how much I ate. Nowadays I eat with Shamth and he tells me I should eat as much as I want. He doesn't seem to complain much, which helps."

She nodded after a moment, reaching out to select two of the rare meatrolls and only one of the bubbly pies. She took a knife, cutting the small hunk of cheese in half, passing the other half over to L'pin. "If I get any hungrier after this, I'll scrounge when we get back."
There was little enough soup, so that she decided he could have it all if he liked. She poured out a cup of the klah into the lid, passing the rest of the cannister his way. "Do you like wine?" she'd forgotten to bring any sort of cup, not originally planning on splitting the meal with anyone but Shamth. "I don't have another cup for it, but I don't spit when I drink and I don't have any diseases of the mouth."
She looked pleased with the meal in front of her. "I never managed to get a reputation for eating too much. Most of the other Fisher Apprentices ate a lot more than I did. Now, growing up I ate a bit more than most girls, but I also roughhoused more than most girls." Like that one time, when she'd broke the nose of that stupid-ratfink Holder kid who was messing with her best friend. Just because Folen hadn't much musical talent like most Harper kids, didn't give that little Hold-raised brat cause to tease him. She took a sip of her klah as Feylith gave a little chuckle from the sands at her thoughts.

"I'll have to pass, I need to keep my head clear for Shamth. As much I enjoy a good drink though, it's almost a shame."
L'pin smiled and took a bite of the food offered to him, doing his best to chew and swallow it all before just allowing it to invade his stomach. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he started to eat, not really surprising, but a sprig of worry popped into his head as well as he slowly consumed. If he was this hungry than surely Shamth was as well, though his Blue was too courteous...towards him...to openly admit he wanted to eat right away.
When the big oaf returned they would have to get him something to eat, followed by a nice rub down of scented oils.
"It's good to hear you had friends outside of the Weyr. Have any of them followed you here, other than the girl you're going to give that egg to? Has this Foalen come to be a Candidate?"

She gave a smile, then took a swig of the wine. "Fortunately it takes a lot to get me legless." She watched him eat, oddly pleased he seemed to find such pleasure in such simple fare. "I was raised at the Harper Hall until I was eight, I believe I told you that." she looked thoughtful. "I hear tell one of my friends from that time are here. Folen. Don't know for sure. And one of my friends from there later, Jada, she's here. The one I want to give the egg to."
She tore into the meatroll, chewing and swallowing. Took another swig of her wine.

"Jada, hmm? It must be good though, to have people you've grown up with here. Before Shamth I had quite a few friends, but it seems like the Turns have sort of strained any relationships I may have had with anyone. Shamth is probably my only friend now, but I'm not complaining. I've grown very fond of his company, but I suppose all riders feel that way towards their lifemates."
L'pin finished off the roll he held in his hand, making a note to go to the kitchens to see if any more would be made any time soon. He liked the taste well enough, and having something to snack on while out working would prevent both him and Shamth from feeling crazy with hunger.
Which, again, reminded him that his Blue needed to eat. He reached out to touch Shamth with his mind, getting a faint reply that seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. Wherever the dragon had gone he was hurriedly coming back.
"You can probably say the same about you and Feylith, right? Human company is nice, but you don't really need it."

Teal eyes were the softest that anyone in the Weyr would have seen as she looked back at her dragon. "Well, they are the ones that Choose us." she said after a moment. "We're the ones that they need, and vice versa."
Feylith lifted his large head, crooning at His. You are perfect for me, he agreed easily. And I am perfect for you. I was wise indeed as a Hatchling, to choose you so wisely.
Quite. She gave the other rider a smile. "But human contact is nice too. Very nice."

"I suppose it can be. I'm just not used to it anymore, so you'll have to forgive how awkward I've been. I'm not apologizing though, it's not like anything wrong has come from it."
L'pin grinned brightly at Tethis, though his eyes quickly went upwards when a roar rang through the air, a dragon bursting from Between. Shamth had returned, eyes bright red with anger, and he landed quickly on the sand without any care to the type of storm he'd brought with his massive wings.
Mine! Let us go!
His voice was more like a command than a request, and L'pin raised an eyebrow as he turned to look over his trembling dragon. Shamth was upset, more than usual, but L'pin could easily understand why. Perhaps the cool of between once more would easy his tempers.
"And with Shamth here, I believe it's my cue to return. No doubt by now that wherry of a Jr. Weyrwoman has discovered I'm not at my post, and you can be there will be hell to pay for it."

The yellow-haired woman gave L'pin a friendly smile. "Its fine." her eyes followed his to where Shamth was bursting from between. Feylith blocked the sand from rushing her as best he could with his massive head as he landed, almost knocking her over in his own urgency to keep the sand from scratching her, or getting in her eyes, or... something!
When it settled down, and L'pin spoke to her again, she nodded quickly. "If you need to, blame me." she grinned, almost playfully. "I hope we can do this again sometime. All in all, its been fun." she gave him a smile, but didn't reach out to hug him as she would any of her other friends in the past. "Fly safe." she nodded to L'pin, then gave Shamth a small smile before turning her attentions back to Feylith, who fussed over her carefully, trying to preen sand from her hair.
The two of them would return later.
