One of my favorite movies is Blood Sport with jad clad Van Dam. One of my best i like to watch.

you know, I used to really like that movie when I first saw it..but as I grew as a moviegoer and as a martial artist, I started to like that movie less and less.

there is a huge controversy in the martial arts world surrounding Frank Dux the guy that bloodsport is dedicated to..and supposed based on.
basically, alot of people are saying Dux is a fraud...and not just outsiders. some of his closest "disciples" have gone out of their way to discredit him. whether or not they're doing it because he's full of s**t or whether they're being spiteful is anyone's guess, but the controversy does exist.

anyhow, back to the movie...almost all the styles that were represented during the bloodsport were misrepresented to some degree. the sumo guy was just a bruiser..the little monkey guy..I've never even heard of a monkey art out of africa.
some of the guys doing kung fu were more or less right, but they were portrayed as small..and relatively weak..
and don't even get me started on the Muay Thai fighter..why the hell was he some white dude?!?!?! and anyone who's ever seriously done martial arts at all knows YOU DO NOT GET INTO A KICKING CONTEST WITH YOUR OWN BODIES AS THE TARGETS! rolleyes

I can keep going ripping this movie apart, but it'll probably stem from my deep rooted hatred of all things Van Damme.

*claps to mythic for his anaysis.* I thought the exact same thing.

Wow, I didn't know about that sweatdrop ..... Thanks for the info I'll keep that in mind. But i would like to know, when it comes to martial art movies, who does the best work. In representing all the styles right and stuff like that.

hey, if you like van damme, go ahead and like him. I just have a seething hatred for him...mostly because he's a cocky b*****d who like hitting women. confused

as far as MAers who represent their styles well in movies, hrm..lemme think.
Jet Li always does a good job representing his styles, though mostly, he uses strange hybrids of the different styles he know. Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, same goes for those two. Don "The Dragon" Wilson does a good job, but his movies tend to be not so good.
Mark DaCoscos(sp?) did a good job in "Only the Strong" representing Capoeira...well, I only know a little about the art, but it looked good on film. biggrin the guy from Kickboxer 2.. Sasha Michaels I think(guy with a girl's name) he did a good job representing Muay Thai...but then again, it's not hard..there really isn't very much flash..
hrm....see, the main problem with representing styles on film is the flashier stuff gets all the attention so it's hard to do the core essence of different martial arts...and if you tried, it sort of looks simple you know?

The movie "Hero" was beautiful and awesome. Nice usage of colors and the fighting scenes were awesome!

Yes it was, but the only thing that bothered me were some of the people were laughing at the movie stressed , this really ticked me off. Why are there people like this...

it probably had something to do with the audience. this movie was intended for chinese audiences and from what I hear, it was HUGE over there when it came out a few years ago.

it's not exactly hollywood you know..and people have a tendency of being critical of stuff they're not used to..

repeat after me.. "Hahaha! Baka No America-jin!"
translation: "Hahaha! Stupid American!"

Just saw the new Resident Evil. Decent fight scenes. The camers work was too jerky though. That was the problem with The Bourne Supremacy. You can really see the techniques.

I'm not so sure about about the Resident Evil movie. I kida liked the first one though. I might try it out.

saw res. evil too.
it was alot better than the first one IMO, so if you liked the first one, jup, I'd suggest going to see the second one.
the camera work was decent. it made it look like milla jobovich(sp?) really knew how to fight.

it was amusing. not the best movie in the world, but entertaining nonetheless.

Milla and the rest of the cast definitely put the work in the make the fights look good. You right about it not being the best movie, but it was a great excuse to eat some popcorn. I wanted to be upset by the guy thrown in for comedy relief, but dammit, he cracked my a** up. "My s**t is custom!" xp

I have only seen the first resident evil movie, so is the second one better? Because I sure hope so.

If you like the first movie or the video games, it's cool.
