Wrathful Shapeshifter

Warmth blossomed in his stomach, moving in a flutter of strong wings as the hand rested on his shoulder. “I’ll be here when I have free time and …well, …we’ll talk…and let things happen as they happen?” He trailed off, firm sand was now underneath his feet, shirt clinging to his skin, sun steaming of the water to leave behind just salt. He dug his feet into the sand, head tilted to greet the sun. Blinked, and moved into the hand playing with his curls, eyes slightly bright as lips meet his brow. “I...” He laughed, leaning up place a light teasing kiss on L’ior’s nose.

“…Want to catch some spider claws or something for dinner?”

"If it happens," said L'ior, with a gentle smile, feeling a little weary. The warm summer sun was beating down with such warm, exhausting, comforting intensity, all the rider wanted to do was to relax and let the quietness soak into him, the other's closeness. "We shall see."

Gently withdrawing his hands, he chuckled softly. "I would like those spiderclaws indeed," he murmured, his smile turning more broad, warmer. "You will have to teach me to catch them, as I've never lived by the sea... are you up to the task, do you think?"

“I have never taught any how to catch them before. It will be a learning experience,” Brishen replied shrugging off his soaked shirt and hanging it up to dry. “But we are going to want to get dressed. Spider claws pinch, and pinch hard.” He changed into his pants, brushing off as much sand as he could from his feet before lacing up the sandals. “If we can’t find them…we can dig up some shell fish. Maybe find some sort of fruit or vegetable to go along with our meal." He dusted his hands off on his pants.

"And then...nap."

Padding up onto the sand with long strides of strong legs, L'ior bent to retrieve his hide trousers, pulling them up and fastening the buttons with a chuckle. "I am very good at physical work," he said, head bent and his wet, salt-rimed mane sliding over his shoulder, half-braided, "so we will probably find enough to eat -- and I can cook, as well."

A picnic, mine? asked Dioth, long forked tail twitching delicately against the sand. I wish there was a wherry here...

Laughter filled L'ior's mind. You do not need another wherry, you had three this morning... though I suppose everyone likes a snack...

A snack -- that's it, L'iormine. When we get back to the Weyr, I'd like another, if you please? Almost pleadingly, the dragon slitted open one eye, a reddish swirl streaking through the blue.

Of course, relented L'ior with a smile, a certain light in his expression. We will go when we've napped...

"I'm not certain what we'll find here, but I can improvise," he said aloud, straightening up and tying back his hair into a hasty knot.

“Physical work is soothing, something about working till your muscle are sore and loose. I use to work in a glass forge, and the smell, taste, just the sense of worth when you finish a piece. Nothing like it,” Brishen spoke, looking at his hands for a moment. “I like cooking. Improvising, well a few sturdy sticks, some flat clean rocks and we should be set.”

“Spider claws like rocky areas, places riddled with holes they can den and hide from larger creatures.” Brishen reached down, pulling a well worn knife out of the hidden pocket near his ankle and slid it in the loops of his dark tight woven trousers. “So, we’ll find a stick to poke them out of their holes and something heavy to smack them with.”

"Glass?" asked L'ior, a little puzzled, as he reached into his things to retrieve his own belt knife. "I've never seen the inside of a glass forge, myself... I know only the kitchen and the Weyr, really." Smiling sheepishly, he fastened the thing at his hip, where the hide pants were slung low, before bending to fold up the legs so they wouldn't end up crusted in sand. "I do cook well. My father was a kitchen drudge and my mother was a Bakercraft apprentice, so I've come by it honestly, though I cannot say I've ever clouted anything over the head with a stone before cooking it before. In general, these things tend to make it to Igen salted, or preserved, if at all. And spiderclaws, while I have heard they're good..." Eloquently, L'ior shrugged.

They sound like bugs, mine, remarked Dioth.

They probably are... though I trust this one if he says they are good, replied L'ior with an internal smile.

"I worked in one three years, before that my mother was trying to teach me the weavers trade. I couldn't stay still," and to emphasize that point, he sprang off, sand kicked up from his heels. "Catch me if you can L’ior. We have a bit of a way to go,” he called, twisting to flash the elder a grin, “might as well have a bit of fun getting there.” With his challenged announced Brishen ran.

A protesting yelp escaped L'ior -- "wait!" cried the older rider, and hastily, he began to stumble after Brishen, laughing a bit. "You are exhausting," he said out loud, jogging and taking advantage of his long, sleekly-muscled legs as he followed the other. Clearly Brishen knew where to find them, so it was up to him to follow!

Having lived at two some what over crowded holds and a Weyr with plenty of beach 'Rish had figured out the best ways to get at extra tasty things. Mostly to keep fueling all that wonderful burst of energy L'ior found exhausting. Most people found him exhausting. "It's part of my charm!" He called, breathing even as he ran across the sand heading to a small rather rocky part of cove that should give up spider claws. That or something else tasty. He wasn't really picky.

Though he considered himself rather fit from all the running about he did, L'ior kept up with surprising ease, though he hadn't thought he'd be doing such things today. This was his rest-day, after all, and to spring so suddenly into action was a little bit hard for him to handle. "Charm indeed," L'ior huffed as he pushed himself just a bit harder, long legs moving at a ground-devouring stride in the sandy soil. The rocks would pose a threat to feet used to wherhide boots, though, and he'd have to slow to a walk there.

If he had breath he would have snicked, instead he halted right at the edge of the rocks, falling back into the sand with a plop, waiting for L'ior to catch up. Which likely wasn't going to be long but hey, a bit of rest would be good for him, the sand was warm. The rock would be chilled and a bit slippery. Soak up as much warmth as possible.

"I have never been good at footraces," announced L'ior as he pulled himself up short next to the flopped figure in the warm sand a few moments behind, bending to drag in a few deep breaths and propping his large hands on his knees. "There is a reason riders rely so much on their dragons, hm?" It wasn't a chide, surprisingly enough; L'ior would have been laughing if he'd had the air in his lungs to do so.

He grinned, panting slightly. "I like foot races but yeah, running on the ground has to seem boring compair to the sky. The between is freaky though." He shivered slightly, eyes gleaming. "Got your breath back rider?"

"Between is a bit frightening at first, but," said L'ior, with a smile, "if you trust your partner, then it becomes less frightening... and yes, I suppose I have." Scrunching his nose, he plopped down into the sand, though. "Still, give me a moment anyway, all right?"

"It's cold and just so dead silent," Brishen muttered, wiggling himself deeper into the sand not intresting in getting up. "I'll give you all the time you want. Well, till my stomach growls and forces me to go poking morsels out of dens."

He tilted his head back, regarding L'ior. "Care to be my adopted brother?"
