MystRivin I live close enough that I don't need to reserve a hotel, though it might be nice to do sometime. First year I went with my friend (and dad) who knew the convention pretty well. I live within 30min of the convention center and always get a room... It started actually with Norwescon for me since we always got a room (Missed only 3 of those from 1986-2006 I think was the last year I went...) and we drove there a lot and was no fun driving back and forth. So for the last 15 years or so we always get a hotel if we are going to any convention more than just for the day. You get to sleep in... you have a place to go back to and store your stuff or crash or fix your costume etc. Ok totally random story Knowing the layout of the convention center and hotels and such they tend to work out to your benefit. You can avoid crowds, know back ways to get places, and can just get places faster. When I was in High School I went to a few pageants... yea yea lame I know... and I was hanging out by the pool... and one of the girls I was hanging out with at the pageant came up to me and asked if I could help some people find their way around the hotel since they were having issues (and knowing the hotel like the back of my hand going for years and years everyone was always asking me where things were)... well not thinking anything of it I said yea sure so got up and got my stuff together... behold it was Miss Washington, Miss Wisconsin, and Miss America... who were also 3 of the judges... and had to check in or something. That was just so uber. Miss Washington was actually walking around with me for a while and asked me to show her easy ways to get from place to place. I got so many evil looks from other contestants but I got my pic taken with her and she was really nice.

First off, how early would you reserve your hotel for Sakura Con?
No Later than December. Even December is pushing it because hotel rooms fill up FAST. I was surprised to get one this last time. I usually aim to have it by January.
Second, do you pre-register or do you pay at the door?
Pre-register if I plan to be there Thursday night. At the door if I can't go Thursday Night (haven't been stopped yet). Reason why is because Pre-Reg is cheaper the earlier you do it. Significantly so! And going on Thursday night, it's only 2 hours versus 8 hours Friday and Saturday. However, if I wasn't able to go Thursday night to pick up the badge? I'd go with paying at the door. Con time is precious, you always want to chose the safest and cheapest way that gives you most of your time. You're paying pookoo bucks for it after all.
How do you normally get to Sakura Con?
I drive. I've tried numerous ideas. Getting a hotel nearby, Getting a Hotel a little further but cheaper, Driving everyday and staying at the nearest friend's house (which is still $20). It all depends on your comfort level and your wallet size. If you don't mind getting up an hour earlier and getting a driver who is used to morning driving and possibly getting stuck in traffic to save about $100/person, just do the driving to and from. It works best for adults (18+) because you can get their when you want and leave when you want. With Minors it's hard because you HAVE to leave by 1AM because of them.
If you're a minor, It's easier with the hotel but more expensive. Because you don't have to be driven back home at night, you and your friends can just go back.
But normally, Driving and/or Walking. On year, with the far away hotel it was trolly and Taxi xD
What are your favorite places to eat?
Believe it or not... I haven't eaten anywhere in seattle for a few years while at the con. I bring packed lunches because I'm cheap. <3 But the convention center has a lot of good food. The Crepes are awesome. Worst comes to worst, live on cup ramen and call yourself Naruto.
How many people do you normally go with?
I try my damnedest to go with 3 other people for the Hotel room's sake. Last few years it's been more or less. You at least want one other person because you'll seem like a Loner otherwise. But more than 4 people to a group and You look standoff-ish because you've already got a clique going. 2-3 people is usually comfortable for a group to still meet people.

I don't even bother reserving a room at a hotel since I live like 9 or so minutes away by car (no traffic). I pre-registered the day after Sakuracon 09. I sometimes eat at Ruth Chris, 13 Coins, John Howie, or Blue-fin buffet. j/k. I really just eat some granola bar or anything good near by. I got some friends to come with me on Sunday, but will be by myself for the rest of the con and would like to hang out some other people.

First off, how early would you reserve your hotel for Sakura Con? This will be my first year getting a hotel at SakuraCon, and we looked into a hotel in October, but reserved it about three weeks ago. I live in Tacoma, so it's not that far, but I'd like to be able to stay for the raves and stuff this year. Second, do you pre-register or do you pay at the door? Pre-reg, always pre-reg. How do you normally get to Sakura Con?
Drive, but this year I'll walk ;P What are your favorite places to eat?
I like Subway, but I also like the Cheesecake factory, Taco Del Mar, pretty much anything handy. I usually bring my own food and eat that, as it's cheaper and faster, so I'll most likely just pack bentos again or something. How many people do you normally go with? I always go with a group of friends. KumoriCon we just go with four people, this year we'll be 5 people. I have a ton of friends going this year though, so I'll probably be seen with someone at all times.

I registered about a month ago near the end of February. I'm staying at the Grand Hyatt and attending all three days. This is my first Sakura-Con.
I'm driving to the hotel (I live about 90 miles north) but then plan to leave the car parked and walk.
Not sure about my favorite eats. I've been to Seattle many times but never lived there. Bremerton was closest. I like some of the places in Pike's Place Market and near there. I'm also okay with places like Subway and such to fill the void. I'll probably take some trail mix or other quick energy food and leave it in the hotel room.
I'm going with one other person. Neither of us has been before. Both of us are more or less 'con-newbs'. I've been to a sci-fi con quite a few years ago. So yeah, I'm a bit 'fish out of water' but I plan to have fun anyway.
I'm hoping to meet some other Gaians there if it works out.
