Beth had barely taken off, and she was already caught again. The electric current paralyzed every single muscle in her body, and she fell back like a stone. Not a twitch, not a cry. The only way to check if she were still conscious, or even alive, was to observe her icy glare. A picture being sometimes worth a thousand words, one could just imagine from her frozen expression all the threats and insults she was mentally spitting at Branimir.

"Oh, nooooo..."
Well, she certainly won't need to give any order anytime soon.

Branimir seemed to laugh at the bird as he finally managed to make a lasting impact on her with his paralysis attempts. He walked up to the murkrow and waited for Raina's command. Now that the bird was down he could get a few good attacks in without worrying about any more mud.

"Keep using thunder fang!" Raina called out to Branimir as she watched him approach the bird. She knew that they had a limited time to make an impact on the battle and she knew that the electric attack was the only move Branimir knew that would make much of an impact on the murkrow.

Upon hearing Raina's command Branimir barked to show he heard her and then his fangs were crackling once again as he bit down on the murkrow. That'll teach her to mock an arcanine.

Beth started to see the flaw in her plan: reducing Branimir’s strength only made the battle and the pain last longer. Damnit. Her green eyes rolled madly in ther socket, but still not a move.

Raina watched as Branimir's thunder fang attacks continued on the poor murkrow and she felt bad that the battle was lasting this long. If only she had let Branimir learn an attack that boosted his attack power or lowered the opponent's defense, then this battle would be over already.

Branimir looked down at his opponent and continued the electric attack feeling just a tinge of sadness about how long he was dragging out her pain.

An eye twitched. Definitely not an alarming sight, but for sure a sign that Branimir should be careful of his opponent’s slow recovery.

Branimir noted the murkrow's eye twitching but didn't let up with his thunder fang attacks. He knew that she was slowly coming out of the paralysis and he worked even harder to get in a critical hit before she came out of it.

No critical hit came, and Beth had just regained control of her head. She cawed and turned her head to watch her opponent, but she just wasn’t mobile enough yet to do anything else.

Branimir unleashed one more thunder fang attack on the now stirring murkrow before bounding backwards away from her to avoid her snapping beak when she was finally able to move fully. At least she was almost out, she couldn't possibly have much fight left in her after this.

So tired… the Arcanine did the good thing by avoiding her snapping sharp beak. In a swift movement, she left the ground to find the comforting air again.

Alessa could see her Pokémon was starting to bleed on her side, and on the verge of unconsciousness. There was nothing she could do anymore to reverse the tide. Knowing this very well, frowning, she symbolically discarded her own authority with a move of her hand. “I’m so sorry, Beth, you must hate me right now… let’s play fair and end this like ladies, shall we?”

Who cares about good sport? At least, her trainer was right, she did hate her. She pushed all her negative emotions into an Astonish attack. From one moment to another, a small shadowy form appeared right in front of Branimir to hit him and disappear as mysteriously as it came. Ghost attacks weren’t especially effective against fire; however, she really needed to release her rage so close to her defeat.

As the mysterious figure appeared ahead Branimir attempted to change his course but it was too late and the strange figure hit him hard as he tried to dodge it. As he was knocked to the side he struggled to stay on his feet and at once he looked around for the mysterious attacker, realizing after a moment it had been one of Beth's attacks he turned his gaze back to her.

His eyes were blazing as he unleashed a devastating fire blast attack straight towards the nearly defeated murkrow.

Strangely, Beth’s intuition led her to drop on the floor a few seconds before the fire blast heated the air above air to inhumanly high temperatures. She might have been looking quite pitiful at that moment, almost too weak to fly again, but despite this, she cackled and spread her wings. Another instant phantom, made of her spite and jealousy against the Arcanine’s power, was unleashed against him.

Unable to find words, Alessa just stood there, stupid-looking. There had been many near-misses and miraculous dodges in that fight, but that one was the most unexpected of all. She wanted to cheer for her Murkrow, however, would that really help? The cynic bird might not enjoy the false hope at all.

Branimir snarled when he missed the murkrow and then growled as her little phantom attacked him again. Luckily this one seemed weaker and after the phantom vanished Branimir made his way slowly, purposefully, towards the murkrow.

As he got closer you could see that his fangs were crackling with electricity and in another moment he had executed the attack, darting forward so fast he was only a blur and biting down hard on what he hoped was still the murkrow.

Raina watched the last moments of the battle in awed silence. It never ceased to amaze her how pokemon could avoid some of the attacks that were unleashed at them. She had been expecting the fireblast to his Beth for sure but she managed to avoid it and then retaliate in an instant and now as she watched Branimir give his best attempt to end the fight she crossed her fingers that he would be able to win this battle.

The misplaced luck didn’t last. Beth didn’t even see the bite coming, and small sparks erupted from her fresh wound along with blood droplets. No chance to say anything, either; very quickly, a dark veil shrouded her sight and she lost consciousness, falling like a puppet whose strings have been cut.

Her trainer smiled faintly while the ray of the pokéball touched the bird and called her back inside. “A very intense battle” said Alessa, also tired, “I believe I have learnt quite a bit during this battle.”
She left her spot to walk towards Raina and shake hands. “Thank you for that occasion! You’ll be ready to face the gym soon, if you’re not already. Good luck again, anyway.” She had no intention to ever challenge a gym leader herself. It was quite enough in her eyes to have a Pokémon able to overcome most confrontations with wild creatures.
Of course, losing for the third time in a row wasn’t exactly encouraging, either.

As the bird fainted Raina grasped Branimir's great ball and returned him to it. "You did great today." she said as she clipped the ball back onto her belt and then moved to meet Alessa in the middle of the stadium.

After shaking hands she grinned "Yeah, that was insane, I don't think I've ever seen so many dodged attacks in a battle before." after a moment she nodded "I hope that we're ready, I don't want to get there and then lose, I think I still need a bit more training to be able to take on Luna, I hear her pokemon are extremely tough to beat." Smiling kindly she bid Alessa farewell and then headed for the nearest pokecenter to heal Branimir and get off her feet for awhile.
