Dillon paused for a bit, looking at the models and what stats the hologram offered. "I've never seen the Class-II or 1000s before. Do you have more information on them?"

(Literally)
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:00 pm

"Well, the II-class is a scaled down version of the Imperator-class. In fact its a derivative of the Imperator-design project. Off Kuat most people call it the Imperator II-class Frigate, since it came from the Imperator design initiative. The class 1000 cruiser is really one of our less succeful designs. She's well armed, but painfully slow and downright ugly. In truth I'd suggest avoiding the class 1000 cruiser altogether, general combatants have no place in the frigate size class. The frigate size is more suitable for specialized vessels like the EF76 and Lancer-class."

"Then those will have to do," Dillon concluded, making a mental note of this. "By any chance, I assume you've been recording our conversation. How much have we agreed upon so far?"

In his mind, he had the purchase of Imperators in exchange for Kuat having production rights on Pammant and access to Free Dac technology. The frigates on the other hand would have to come out of pocket.

Oh, and the Lucrehulks for storage.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:35 pm

((Nothing is a simple exchange when it comes to a Kuat Business Deal))

Giddean Kuat nodded, "Yes, and I've been taking notes..." He smiled slightly, "The Pammat Yards will be leased to Kuat, the cost of the lease will be subtracted from the price of vessels produced there. Additionally Kuat will license technologies from Free Dac Volunteers that will further be used to reduce the price of the vessels built at the Pammat Yards. Kuat will buy decommissioned Lucrehulk-class ships when they are replaced by other designs, as a sort of starship trade in. The exact number of ships requested has not been specified but it will total approximately half the Confederate Navy. Considering the total strength of the Confederate fleet we're talking several hundred thousand vessels over ten years."

That sounded about right. "In addition, since we'll be decomissioning a good many of our ships, would Kuat have any use for their parts?"

Surely they would. A lot of the systems were similar, and having access to those parts would surely bring another discount to the overall price the re rehaul. Though most of it would still probably be sent to Hypori to be recycled.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:58 pm

"Aside from the Lucrehulks?" Giddean Kuat considered it, and a slight smile slid across the side of his face. "I'd be willing to pay salvage price of any other vessel, but the Lucrehulks we'll be paying the market price for a used vessel of that sort."

He scribbled down a note to himself. This deal was becoming more profitable by the moment.

Indeed it was. Both parties were profitting from this, no matter how much money or resources were being spent. "Good. We'll provide you as many decommissioned ships as applicable, so long as we have ships to replace them in short order. Most will be light Destroyers and Frigates. Any decommissioned Lucrehulks will be traded over at market value."

Now the next step: resources. "You mentioned a need for more resources. What kind and how much?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:19 pm

"The issue is not materials but getting them to the manufacturer, hence our willingness to purchase Lurcrehulks. In the meantime we have more than enough resources on hand to start-up production."

Giddean smiled slightly. Piracy could be a problem, but then again few pirates would be willing to risk a raid on a ship watched over by Kuat Drive Yards combat ships.

"In a month or two you can anticipate deliveries of between 5-10 Imperator-class ships a day, once the resource cascade starts we can produce ships at an exceptional rate, but bare in mind these ships won't be rolling out of a factory. Shipyard production for ship's this scale is such that it's not a continuous process so deliveries will be in pulses. In the first month we'll be able to deliver about 50 Imperator-class ships, and that number will increase to around 100-200 a month. You can expect similar numbers for the other destroyer class hulls, but frigates can be built in a factory manner and so they will be arriving much more quickly, we average 50 frigates produced a day. We may deliver new ships faster than you can decommission the old." He keyed his console in the desk and made a quick calculation. This contract was worth more than all the platinum in the Anoat system.

"Well then, I'll have my secretary draw up the documents immediately.

Indeed it was. It was getting very, very expensive. Both sides were investing a lot into each other, and though it didn't come close to the total efforts of either faction individually, still it was a mighty endeavor.

And if it should fail (Alto forbid), then it would be a huge waste of resources, of a planet-size scale.

The real question was getting his own ducks in a row to make use of the ships. Droids and equipment were much easier to move in people, which made this task considerably easier than it could've been. Even still, he had to look forward to systematically replacing nearly ten million ships, from the Frigates, on up. The only ships that wouldn't be decommissioned, in fact, would be the Subjugators, Providences, and the modern Lucrehulks.

In the meantime, they'd need a designated exchange point, where they could receive new ships, while trading over old ones for decommission and salvage, while handing out the new ships one by one to each of the fleets.

"On that note, I think it suitable that we have a seperate shipyard set aside for the exchange going on. It'll make it easier by far to transfer personnel and equipment off one ship and onto another, and should speed up the process nicely. Might I suggest Yaga Minor or Raxus Prime?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:47 pm

"The most efficient arrangement would be to make the exchange point Pammat Yards since the Kuat Presence there is merely that of renters." Giddean smiled. "If that meets with your approval?"

"If that's what you want, alright. We'll just have to be sure to set part of the shipyard aside for the gutting and salvaging.

"Other than that, I think we're done with the negotiations. We're only waiting for the documents to sign and make this official."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 7:21 pm

"Very well then." Smiling he tapped the comm knowing that his secretary had been listening. "If you'd bring in the document as soon as it's ready."

"Yes Mister Kuat." Giddean leaned back in the chair, his mind doing a quick mental calculation of the profits and losses of the deal. He was in the black in his mind, and to him it seemed that the Confederate delegation was deep in the red. But then, they were getting thousands of starships.

The turbolift slid open and the secretary brough the document to the table. She set it on the desk and waited as Giddean read through the document double checking the numbers. He realized he'd been off by nearly an order of magnitude in terms of the number of ships that were being ordered in the frigate classification. 25,000 Imperator-class Star Destroyers, 10,000 Venator-class Star Destroyers, and 15,000 Tector-class Star Destroyers. Then there were the frigates and corvettes. 1.75 million Nebulon Bs, 0.75 million Imperator II-class Frigates, and 1.25 of the new Lancers. At the bottom end of the scale were corvettes, over 6 million of them. Almost exclusively KDB-1 Broadside-class ships. He quickly double checked the math as well as the stipulations for the licensing and exchange agreements.

The total value of the order came to nearly 300 trillion credits, a guaranteed income for KDY of 30 trillion credits a year for the next ten years. Even with the expenses of the exchange of ships and so forth it was well over 25 trillion a year for Kuat Drive Yards. Then the long-term profits from spare parts weren't even represented.

"I see everything here is in order, if you'd like to check the document before signing." Giddean turned the document around and set it at the edge of the desk.

Some part of Dillon died when he saw the total price of the order. And that included the discounts from the licenses. Damn. This would be a very hard apple to swallow. He'd most half to make up for it, with a successful war. He'd just need some good targets and lots of redistribution of resources.

But, the good news is, they weren't going into bankruptcy. He'd made sure to check with the financial minister beforehand, and knew that so long as the deal didn't cross $500 trillion, they'd be within budget. The Muuns were a**l about that.

But, that was before this next thing he was interested in talking about.

Seeing that everything looked about right, he turned the documents back over to Giddean. "I don't usually sign parchment documents. Do you have a pen on you?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 7:57 pm

Giddean smiled. He drew a pen from the desk and handed it over. "I've grown to distrust electronic media in these troubling times. It's far to easy for them to be faked by slicers and the like."

"Ah, I hear you, Giddean," Dillon commented with a knowing smile as he took the offered pen and signed on the dotted line. "I'm a soldier, so I see a lot of frontline action. I understand how things really happen, and those who misrepresent it are disgraceful. Especially the beuracrats."

Done, he turned the document over to Kuat to sign. "Once your done, could you please have a copy made for me? You know, personal records and all."
