Jin had jumped back with a yelp of surprise. He's standing close to Lina and Ren, looking at the demon mask with wide eyes. Was he smelling gasoline? Maybe not gasoline, but something like it. But why gasoline? Sure, it can make one light headed and eventually do harm, but not in an open place like this cave. If it was a smaller space, maybe, but not here. So why...?
Blue eyes shoot open and he suppresses a nervous laugh. This can't be good.
"Got mahself a plan, Lina!" Jin has to shout to be heard over the rumbling of the cave. "Keep yer barrier up case this goes ta s**t!"
The dragon's eyes become half-lidded in concentration. A twister forms in front of the demon mask. The tornado's chore is to filter the air of what gas Lina's barrier may or may not suppress. Two of Jin's three air spies go to the twister and begin to transfer the gas like they would sounds and smells, only they redirect the threat to the air closer to the entrance of the cave. On the other side of Lina's barrier, another tornado forms. This one starts to move toward the cave entrance, filtering the air of the gas as it moves.

The Shinobi behind the large demon mask transferred the Jutsu through the mask as a giant fireball spawned in front of it. Considering the mask was still inside the cave, there would be only one way to shoot the fireball. Straight into their barrier.
The fireball shot forth as whatever gas that was left started to catch fire and explode around them. The tornado that Jin spawned made the fireball stronger as it's flames roared through it with ease.
The Genjutsu Ren was under continued to take effect as the other Shinobi inside made sure of it until ordered otherwise.

Damn it I still can't do anything, someone has to snap me out of this or something!
Ren shouted in his head. He could only watch helplessly as the fireball came barreling down towards them.
Ren wasn't sure if Lina's barrier would hold against it or not.

Lina grimaced as the fire from the technique hit her outer barrier.
"The outer layer won't hold for too long, pull the air away from that thing" she said and gave Ren an elbow jab to the head hoping he'd be able to focus on the pain to break the technique. She never had bothered to learn to cure others of those blasted illusions.
She unsheathed the large sword on her back and compared it to the mouth of the mask.
"It won't melt at these heats... so maybe..." she muttered, keeping her eyes flickering about, waiting for the moment where either the flames would die down, or confirming that the flames would hold their pace. At the same time she started to release the inner blade.

Jin motions with two hands, and the air spies quickly suck the air, gas, and fire out of the twister, collapsing it. They redirect the fire as far to either side of the barrier as possible and to the other twister, which is nearly out of the cave. As soon as the twister exits, it lengthens until it can safely dispel the fire and gas high into the air.
The dragon gives Lina a sheepish grin. "Did Ah nah say it could turn ta s**t? Got sommat else up yer sleeve, comrade? Ah 'ave one more idea, but that involves leavin' you 'n our suddenly quiet bud here 'n strikin' out on me own."

She chuckled "Plan A is to see if those guys can hit us then maybe we can hit them."
A few moments later three kunai were thrown through the mouth, wire trailing them as she guided the knives in an attempt to copy a technique she had recently seen.
"I suppose plan B probably is out though, telling you to grab him and run to report that we found it so I could shrink the barrier to just myself and hold 'em back a bit, but any of us playing the martyr isn't exactly what I had planned for this morning."

Jin watches the knives, trying to figure out what she's doing. It's a technique that's beyond him. But, it looks promising. Then he looks back to Lina.
"If tactical retreat be an option, then Ah can do that. Jus' give the word, 'n Ah can have us outta here real quick."

The demon mask suddenly disappeared as the last two eyes shot open when the fireball vanished. Another Genjutsu was in place but the Genjutsu that crippled Ren had stopped taking effect.
The demon mask was gone from sight and the cave stopped shaking. The human signatures would be gone as well, but not completely. They were in another spot around the three Academy students, preparing for a second attack.

((o wut, thought we were going in order or something.)) Ren could feel his arms and legs move as he focused on the pain Lina gave. The danger from the fireball had passed for now.
More importantly, the demon mask suddenly vanished. Ren's Byakugan was scanning the cave and area around them.
"Ok first of all, I think I was just caught in a Genjutsu by looking at that mask's eye.
Second of all, being near this cave isn't a good idea right now."
He started to back off from the cave's entrance while he searched everywhere around him, including downwards.

The girl pulled the one of the wires that had gone into the former location of the mask's mouth, trying to see how strong the illusion was now that her original plan was thrown off somewhat.
Lina closed her eyes and pushed her energy senses out, letting the outer layer of her barriers fall now that the flames were gone.
"I can't tell with the mask if it's still around," 'yet' she added mentally, "but they still are around here, we can fight... or now that you're awake we can follow orders and report that we found the bloody thing."

(( Probably my bad. I got ahead of myself. ^_^; Also, posting under my main account... Because I'm lazy like that. XD ))
Jin perks at the idea of reporting back. "Well, Ah'm all fer reportin' back! Though, if the two o' ya want ta fight, Ah'll back ya up best Ah can."
The dragon sniffs the air. The lone air spy is spiraling along the ceiling and walls, trying to detect the enemy. Nothing, so far.

They would feel a large amount of chakra beneath them starting to awaken. Some kind of beast was coming straight up at them through the ground. The ground didn't shake at the oncoming beast, though. A Jutsu was being used to transfer the beast through the ground.

"Well I want to fight this thing, not run aw-!"
Ren's eyes widened in shock when he spotted the large chakra signature coming up at them through the ground.
"MOVE! Something big is coming from under us!!"
Ren focused chakra to the bottom of his feet as he sprang backwards away from the spot, keeping his kunai at the ready as he slid to a stop.

In a moment Lina had locked her sword and jumped back towards where Ren moved. The barrier following them, but a second barrier forming over the ground. In her hand she stared at three loose sets of ninja wire that quickly seemed to slither their way to where her feet had been moments before.
Her attention turned to Ren as she stated calmly.
"Considering these guys seem to abuse illusion techniques to the point your eyes can't see through them I'm beginning to think they'll never show us a fight, they're just going to keep toying with us through traps and things like this."
She stared out with her energy senses, both for chakra and electrical signals, throwing three kunai towards one of the hiding men as she waited for whatever it was to surface.

Jin moves with Ren and Lina, careful to stay within the woman's barrier. Within the barrier, he begins to inch as close to the cave exit as possible. Instinct is beginning to take over. This feels too much like a well set trap. And the young dragon is vulnerable. Probably more so than Lina and Ren. And so the fight or flight response is leaning more toward flight.
The woman's words strike a note in Jin's mind.
"Why toy instead o' drive off er kill us? Jus' 'cause they be cruel like that, or ya figure they got a purpose?"
Surely they know by now that we're nah exactly the cream o' the crop. Why the big show?
