My school's band camp started on Monday. It's so cool. It's my first year. My school isn't marching flute for field this year though. =/ So now I have to wait until concert season to play it... I was lucky, the two other people in the flute section had to switch to tuba and baritone, but I got asked to join pit the day before. So that's where I am now. It's okay I guess, but I'm mad because I'm a freshman and I have to open our show! It's stupid! I just know I'm going to mess up!! Our band camp is two weeks long and lasts from 9am to 5pm with lunch from 12 until 1. It's just at my high school. At lunch everyone just walks to either Chevron or the 76 (a store near my school) or drives somewhere. We're already like 40 seconds into our show which is farther than we thought we would, so that's good. Our opener is Make it Mine by Jason Miraz. I don't know what our ballad is yet. The show is called Moods. It sounds hecka awesome so far and I can't wait to finish it!!!! I'm really excited.
I just really don't like starting the show.
Take to band camp: water Water WATER WATER!!!!!! sunscreen water your instrument (unless you're in pit) water... ... yeah that's about it.
I can't wait for the season to start and to see all the shows. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!
GO LB TIGERS!! (sorry I had to throw that in)

Haha, this year is quite weird.
Pre-Camps- It lasted from June 8th- 12th. It was mainly to train the incoming freshmen and colorguard members.
But, it wen't along the lines of this.
8 am- 11:30 am. - Basics/ Fundamentals. 12:00pm- 3pm- Full Band/ Sectionals, or vise versa. 3pm- 4pm- Dodgeball. Cx
In the Second Session, the Pre-Camp was only two days. July 30th- July 31st- For the full band.
Schedule went along the lines of this. 8am- 11:30 am- Basic Fundamentals. A hour and a half lunch break from 11:30- 1PM. 1pm- 4pm- Full band/ Sectionals, vise versa.
And now, the actual learning of drill.
Aug 3rd/ 8:30 am- 10:30- Basics. 10:30- 12:00pm- Full Band. Early dissmissal.
Aug 4th- Aug 6th. Our BD's rented a place on our nearby island, and had a small camp for 3 days. Mainly, we got there at 7:30 am, and got back at at 6:30 pm.
Lol, today was a normal 8:00 am to 4:00pm.
It's not for sure yet, but I believe our band will have three-a-days again.
Three-A-Days- Tues, Wed,and Thurs. 8:00am- 8:00pm. It isn't certain yet.
But after that week, we'll only be at band from 4:00 pm- 7:30 pm.
During the school year, we only usually have after school practices from 4:30- 6:30pm.
SORRY I RANTED.

Band camp just ended. We covered ALL our drill. and have half of my music memorized. And I stole a mellophone's penguin, named it Jeffery and NEVER gave it back. Most likely bc she's a dumbass and I hated her guts. She was sooo rude. I just wanted to go up to her and slap her and yell shut up. I also almost stole a bear of hers too. I named it Leroy. We don't go by a schedule. We just march and do drill. and then sectionals in the afternoon. But if you misbehave you get to run up and down THIS. look at the bottom of the picture. yeah that. Pretty steep hunh? Yeah our stadium is ON A CLIFF. Anyway.... we just talked in British accents all week and carried around bags of kitty litter. NO JOKE.

Gekkei-Senpai Marching Band IS fun, but--it's a little difficult. I, unknowingly, got a really bad sun burn for not (call me crazy) wearing sun block. I almost cried twice. I'm the kind of person that gets really frustrated when I can't things right. Our drill is so weird. My friend (saxophone player) has to take these giant steps just to get to the second coordinate on the field. We're playing some Jackson 5 songs in memeory of Michael Jackson. We're playing: I Want You Back (weird arrangment), Rockin' Robin (saxes have the melody, whoo!!!), I'll Be There (we have the melody again!), and ABC (strange arrangment). I have to tell a little tip. BAND CAMP IS THE WORST PLACE TO GET A TAN! I'll tell you some tans (or sun burns as I call them) that you get there: - Farmers tan - Hat tan - Ice Cream tan (sun burn is chocolate, tan under the sun burn is strawberry, and the whiteness under the tan is vanilla, which I have) - Watch tan - Sock Line tan - Half Body tan (when you march, the sun might be facing your left side, and your right side might not get the same tan) (half white, half tan) - Head Root tan /sun burn (when the sun is facing up, make sure to wear a hat) (the sun might roast your scalp) - Sun Glasses tan Make sure to wear/ bring these things when outside: - Sun Block - Aloe (if you have a sun burn) - Sun Glasses (unless you don't want circles around your eyes) - Hat (make sure not to put it all the way on your head) (you might have a tanning line) - NO Open Toed Shoes - WATER! (it'll be great to be able to not be dehydrated) - T-Shirts with Short Sleeves (tank tops or spaghetti straps might get you the WORST sun burn ever) Band Camp is fun, and like I said, it's difficult, speaking that I almost cried. But hey, I'm only a freshmen learning the basics ropes of marching. And like some of you at your school, they adopt a freshmen (but doesn't buy). I'm a freshmen, and I'm not sure who's gonna adopt me. I think my friend, Kim, a Junior Marching Baritone player, is, but she doesn't know yet. We don't do anything like throw stuff away for them or carry their case or anything; the people adopting the freshmen help them out with the drill we have to do or with the music. its true... she told me all about it... wat a noob hu?

So yeah, of the above quote's kinds of tans, I have most.
-Farmers Tan: I don't wear spaghetti straps or tank tops, so my arms have a nice tan line about halfway between my elbows and shoulders -Watch tan: Both sdes. I have 5 friendship bracelets and one of those plastic bracelets with the sayings on them on one hand, which caused my right side to get a watch tan, and then my watch on the right, which I rarely take off. i always have a right side watch tanXD -Sock line tan: Yup. I've been wearing not matching socks, and they are different sizes. One side is ankle sock height and one side is normal sock height -Half body tan: Sort of. It is worse on one side, but it is also mainly on my back side because my BD was trying not to blind us. Mostly behind me knees and my neck(which, is already peeling stare ) -Head root Sunburn: Yeah, I forgot the hat
Its pretty bad. Everyone is afraid of my neck right now because it is peeling, and hurts real bad. I can't turn my neck much.
Not to anyone who has yet to have bandcamp:
SUNSCREEN AND HAT! You won't be sorry.
EDIT: I just thought of some new tans not mentioned: -Back of legs tan: Obviously, behind your knees is tanned or sunburned from shorts -Ponytail tan: Girls probably. From having a ponytail on, so it is tanned or burned with a stripe down the back of the neck

Today was the first day of band camp and what a day it was. I have decided that all this week (and a little bit of next) I am going to write down the most interesting/amusing thing I saw/heard that day at band camp. tell me about all your band camp stories past or present and i'll share mine.
Band Camp Day 1 (8/10/09): So the rehersal is almost over for the day and our director has just left so we are left to the mercy of our drum major. So of course some of us keep our distance when he tells us to gather round and some of us get way too close. Drum Major - Come on get closer Random Bando - yeah, we're all friends with benfits here

Band Camp Day 2 (8/11/09): So today my band did an endurance march which basically means 30 minutes of nonstop marching (so much fun my legs are still sore) and right before it, my colorguard instructor was telling us that we really needed to drink water and eat to ensure that we wouldn't faint. However, if we did she told us, she brought bananna baby food (ick). So one of our captins turns to the rest of the group and says yeah and she'll chuck it at you until you get up and start marching again. lol

Band Camp Day 3 (8/12/09): I have a dog his name is fido I have raised him from a pup he can stand up on his hind legs if i hold his front ones up
I have a fido his name is dog i have puped him from a raise he can hind up on his stand legs if I front his hold ones up
not the most interesting of days as you can tell but it was still tons of fun one of my captains was singing girl scout songs.
I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when its hot I wear my flannel nightgown in the winter when its not and sometimes in the winter and sometimes in the fall I slip between the sheets with nothing on at all glory glory hallelujah nosey nosey whats it to ya feel the breeze going through ya with nothing on at nothing on at all

ClarinetGoddess Jizzy-chan our school has pre band camp august 3rd through 5th in the mornings this year. today was the first day (obviously), and my band director gave me a can of orange spray paint to write numbers on our practice field, (that was fun). the 6th through the 11th is band camp. Your band camp is really close to ours in terms of dates. Our freshman/pre-camp/percussion/guard band camp started today and goes again tommorrow. Our actual band camp for all members starts wednesday from 8am-9pm, goes until friday, then we have the weekend off before having monday and tuesday starting at 1pm-10p.m. Plus, sophomores have registration on wednesday, juniors on thursday and seniors on friday if I am correct. Freshman have it tommorow I think. Not completely sure, I just know sophomore for a fact. Oh yeah, I've decided not to go to freshy camp. I'm too busy, and if I want to get my hair cut so it should be just long enough to put up for our first game on the 28, I can't go to freshy camp tommorw. Ah well. Edit: I got my hair cut. Why does it seem like the farther, cheaper hair places do it better then the more expensive, closer ones? My hair is just perfect, able to put it up in a high ponytail(with layers) yet it can go down and still be cool(not hot on my neck) that's cool, I thought about cutting my hair too for band, but I wimped out. well like it matters anyways our band is not that stricked this year.
