the fry are a little bit bigger and easier to count. i counted 26 fry. (could be missing some? they hide)
so far total i have lost 5 fry (spread out over a few days) they were all very small so im assuming they just weren't strong enough.

i've added a small air stone on low to break up the surface of the water. its been a little scummy and water changes havent been doing anything.

the air stone did its job perfectly. and its a very low air flow so it doesnt blow the fry all over the tank.

i got a sponge filter for the fry tank. going to attach it first thing when i get home after i do a quick water change. i hope i dont find any more dead fry. its common to find dead ones of course but i still dont like it! not like i have hundreds of them.

It must suck to be away from them at this stage! I hope they'll be okay without their surrogate momma.

my mother and my sis are now captivated by the fish. my mom gets excited when she sees a nest in one of the males little tanks and they watch the babies. they dont do anything to the tank (cleaning or feeding) for fear of killing them but they tell me that there are baby betta swimming around.

how did i know leaving my fry alone would yield death? lots of dead fry. and i found out my mother left the light on THE WHOLE TIME. the things may have been cooked for all i know. i think i may only have 5 good ones left.

im not happy but im not fuming (like i thought i would be)
i'll just try to get the pair to spawn again. i was going to wait till these fry were either a) all grown up or b) all dead but whats the point in waiting? if i end up with any adults from this batch it will only be a few so no worries about space.
im only using the same pair because they have the most experience. more of a chance the dad will take care of his eggs meaning i will have a bigger chance of having more fry which translates into bigger chance of more making it to adulthood.

At least you'll have a chance to look for the food you want beforehand. Maybe order decapsulated brine shrimp eggs online or something. How are the remaining ones doing?

wasnt the food. i got them to eat all kinds of other things. they werent getting the water changes AND the light was left on. the temp could have gotten to 90F
if i end up with more i'll get something smaller than brine like rotifers
