Entry #1 What's the main focus: The flower Where you took the photo: My front yard What message you want to convey via the picture: The beauty of nature. This photo was the one that really got me started taking pictures. Once I started seeing nature through a lense instead of everyday life, I really saw how beautiful it was. Why did you take the picture that way: I wanted to looker to see everything the picture could offer; the backround window, the flower, it's extending leaves. I think the backround makes the flower even more beautiful. Editing: None. The full photo

Entry #2 What's the main focus: The bloomed flower Where you took the photo: My yard What message you want to convey via the picture: Set apart. It's alright to be by yourself, because when you're by yourself, your true beauty shines. Why did you take the picture that way: When I saw the flower, I wanted to observer to see what I saw; a bloom in a sea of buds, a rose in a bush of thorns. So I didn't want to off-set it (like entry one), but however, I didn't want it to be the only thing the observer saw. Editing: Cropped it to get some dirt out. My camera seriously has a mind of it's own and when I uploaded it to my computer, that's what it came out to be xD The full photo

Entry 1.

1) What's the main focus: The empty pond; and the enchantment that I felt around the place.
2) Where you took the photo: On vacation; Zilker Park ~ Austin Texas
3) What message you want to convey via the picture; That even when a place may seem dead; somewhere in the middle of no where you can find a place of enchantment. Like the belief that fairy tales still exist in some kind of alternate place in your mind. I found enchantment in this place, and as the sun was setting my fiance proposed to me; the silhouette against the dry pond with the light ray-ed just right seemed so prefect. Basically? That enchantment can be found in the oddest places
4) Why did you take the picture that way; It was the only angle I found that caught the dry pond perfect with the rays shining down at the edge of the picture, kind of breaking through the trees.
5) How did your edition of the photo contributed to the end product; This really wasn't for a major project [I'm out of school..] My fiance had brought me there to see a play on the hill; and I had done some exploring and just found this place and it absolutely took my breath away. I don't think this picture really does it perfect justice, but maybe its good enough!
Original picture; Larger size.

Entry Number: 1 i //... What's the main focus: The rubber band heart. ii //...Where you took the photo: In my apartment complex iii //...What message you want to convey via the picture: That love shows itself in mysterious and sometimes accidental ways. I was just walking in from the parking lot and saw this on the ground and took a picture via my phone. iv //...Why did you take the picture that way: I thought it was perfect the way it was. I just took the picture of the rubber band laying on the ground it it's random happenstance form. I did not move the rubber band in anyway. v //... Editing: None.

Entry#1 -- Soul Mate 1) What is the main focus -- The main thing you are to notice is the light reflected on the face from the window. This is then supossed is to draw your eyes over to the window where you notice the reflection.
2) Where you took the photo -- The back door at my house, Ontario Canada.
3) What message you want to convey via the picture -- There can be many interpretations of this photo, but the one that I think suits it best involves the human soul. The window is supossed to represent the human soul and how complex it is. The light on the girls face is made to show that you can see some of someones soul reflected through them, but the shade on her face shows that you can never truly see all of someones soul if you look at them under just one light.
4) Why did you take the picture that way -- I needed to be able to show both my face and and window, so this was the best angle to get everything in. the reason the hand is up is because it almost looks like the real hand and the relfection of the hand are one. It's to show the joining of the soul and the person, like holding hands.
5) How your edition of the photo contributed to the end product -- The only editing I did was adding some more contrast and brightening up the picture to make it stand out more. I found this necessary because without doing this, the reflection and the brightness of the window didn't show up well.

Entry 3- Morning sunlight taken- outside my school, leicestershire with a phone camera. around 8am. Main focus- the flare that the sun creates and the tree to the right. what message it conveys and why was it taken like this? not really a message but more of a scene of mystery, made by the morning mist and the contrast between the siloettes and the band of colours in the sky, as they fade from blue to yellow. that was intentional, and my crap camera did the lens flare, as it cannot cope with the sun. Heres mother natures beauty staring you in the face, but 9 times out of ten you wouldn't notice something like this. It is a hopeful image and also shows the passing of time as i waited ten minutes to take this shot, so that the sun shone through the branches, but it moved awfully fast, id seen the sun just start to rise as i started to cross the field. I love the feel of a fresh journey about to start, created by the trees in the distance and how you feel like you could jump into the picture and run through it and escape from the normallity that is school. the wisps of cloud help break up the colours in the pic without being too overpowering. you could see the clouds as spirits being lifted up by this glorious site editing- none.

Photo Four ((The winnin photo..jkjk)) :: Nature :: Main focus:: The Grass. Taken:: On the hill at my house with a Cannon Powershot Message:: There is life in a place that seems lifeless. Why was it taken this way:: I wanted to make the dirt clods look like that they were overpowering and controlled the picture and the Grass to look like a breath of life in the shot. I had to practically lay on the ground with it almost at full zoom in for it to end up like it did. Editing:: NONE! =D

Guys, please note that you have to post your picture in the post, not just a link. If it's too big, you can post the resized version and the original link, but the former is compulsory and the latter is optional.

Candycoated Toxins ×××Entry 3: Happy Days
On a much lighter note than my two previous entries - ah, the innocence and joy of childhood! These are the giant, two-person swings at the Renaissance Festival of Texas. God, those things are fun. I found the diagonal view to be an excellent viewpoint, because you can see all of them and the ivy growing everywhere. I saw in them the memories of being a child, flying high most of the time, and hitting the lows every once in a while. The main focus is the row of swings, especially the blue one on the upswing. I did very, very little editing - I just increased saturation and contrast to make it bright and energetic and fun.××× This must be what my b/f was telling me about yesterday, maybe I should encourage him to work there after all....thanx for the visual.

Hi guys. I'm Raine, or you can call me Spiff. smile
This is a nifty thread you've got going. I have a few questions/suggestions that I would like to propose.
Questions:
1. So are we supposed to have a theme throughout our 4 photos? Kinda like a portfolio? You guys wrote "1) Edition of images" ... Can you please just clear that up for me, thank you. smile
Suggestions:
1. We're allowed to change the 1) lighting 2) background & 3) slight adjust of the colors.
To me, these 3 options are too wide -- changing the lighting or background can produce a completely different picture than the original. I know, I've seen the images that are "overfixed." Maybe this is because I'm a purist. I hardly ever retouch my pictures after I've taken them.
I think it would be better to narrow it down to: 1) cropping 2) changing contrast/hue/white balance/making it black & white instead of color/sepia-toned.
2. Wouldn't it be better or easier for the judges to review each person's portfolio if it was organized in a specific folder, or website, etc? Instead of seeing 2 pictures from User A and then seeing 1 picture from User B, wouldn't it be easier if the judges could just review 4 pictures from User A and then 4 Pictures from User B, etc?
That's my thought. I apologize for the lenght. I hope I've conveyed my message clearly. heart

Raine;
1. There's no need to have a theme throughout the four photos. We're looking at how you capture the photos and such, not exactly the theme.
Edition of Images - The images provided or submitted should be images that are taken naturally, that's the main reason and objective of this contest. Overall, no matter how you edit, it must look natural and real and must be what you take. People might edit the thing 100% and it might look natural, but I believe that everyone should enter this contest with the thought that you're competing on how you take the photos, not how you edit it. It's the choice of the individual. I would consider your suggestions, though me and the Captain had laid down those rules after a lot of consideration. c;
2. Judging - It's alright if the judges go through each image, because we usually judge that way.. c; But well, I think it wouldn't make such of a difference, when you browse through the pages and choose which one is the best. I'll consider this too, though.
Thanks for the suggestions.
