i can only agree.
..but i wish they'd sort out what happened to the G.U.N commander's family (he says shadow killed his family, then he said maria was the only family he knew? does logic dictate that he thought that shadow killed maria, or were there family members that we didn't know about?)
the cut scene featuring him and shadow near the end of one of the games was never fully resolved in any of the 10 endings. a shame, i'd like to know if shadow really was guilty in that storyline, and if he made it up with the commander.

*adds spoiler warning to thread title*
Speaking as a staff member who wants to test the game out and hasn't yet: this could get really soul-destroying. wink
Don't bother using the white-out spoiler method if you don't want to, though - the thread now has a warning attached, and it's only reasonable to expect spoilers in a thread about a new title.

His logic was that Shadow killed the people on the ARK and that GUN were trying to protect/extract. It's the only logical explination and about the only one which G.U.N would deliver as a cover-up to someone who knew about Shadow's existance in the first place (why he wasn't killed/imprisoned with the rest is a mystery. I assume fanfapping can dictate that someone decided to keep the kid close to the army, resulting in his eventual position) It's so annoying when you put like an hour more thought into this than anyone at Sega ever has or will. Easiest way to say any of this is: "Ignore the Commander, his role in the game is as insignificant as the president" Infact. I'll go one more. "Ignore all 10 storylines, besides the final ending" and even ignore the majority of that too if you want to leave with your head intact or any trace of continuity between Shadow and Battle. Damn I hate this game.

Other than storyline-wise, though, how does it play?

Sonic Heroes with guns, more or less, when they said they changed the engine, they LIED. They outright LIED. Rail physics, triple springs, triangle jump... it's all the same, with mild tweaks which seem to make you worse off (Triangle Jump = death. Avoid at all costs). The guns are just "tap square as much as you can until you run out of ammo" affairs, unless you pick a bazooka, which you hold down fire until you can turn him around to target an enemy, which is useless and gets you killed.
The only reason you'd WANT to stop to kill anything is if it was part of your mission or a boss. A ranks can be achieved by getting to the GOAL post very quick.
Missions are ANNOYING AS HADES! imagine all of the torture you went through as Team Chaotix, times 2, times 6. Especially when "Kill every xxx on the stage" is the most popular one.
Really, it's a chore to play.

Nuala Blimey! What about bottomless pits o' doom? Happy to report that there are fewer, some levels don't have any at all. Others (MAD MATRIX! >>) are full of them, and thanks to the inability to move the camera angle up or down, there'll be a few blind leaps of faith. Many lives have been lost to claim the correct route. Was it worth it? No. Oh and Vector sounds like Fozzy Bear from the Muppets. That's enough reason to cringe alone, though Lisa Ortiz does a decent job with her 7 lines as Amy and I'm not opposed to Pollock's Eggman, even if it says the same line over and over and over and over and OVER again...

Samwise Chubb Oh and Vector sounds like Fozzy Bear from the Muppets. That's enough reason to cringe alone. i believe i made that statement first elsewhere. :p sorry if my post above contained spoilers, i was sleepy at the time and wasn't fully thinking straight. i know we're supposed to half-ignore all 10 endings and only beleive the final story's ending, but i just wanted to see if anyone could think of a more local explaination to sonic team's thinking there. but yours stands well, 'chubb'. ^^

Why does it seem that everyone has a problem with the triangle jump? I've never had much of a problem with it (though it really shouldn't be in places with pits). And grinding is alot easier to me. (Though I should note I'm running on Gamecube impressions.)
But yeah. Searching out stuff to find/kill just doesn't fit well in a Sonic game, really. I honestly think the worst in regards to that are the flashback ARK levels. I could handle the other things in other levels because at least they were on the basic path you took through the level, for the most part. But those two levels... even just doing the neutral mission isn't that fun.
As far as camera issues, I only really hated the camera in some of the later levels (Cosmic Fall, Space Gadget), otherwise it worked adequately for me, although a first person view and the ability to change the camera angle would have helped immensely anyway.
The story... well, interesting in some spots on certain paths, but it doesn't flow well, at times. Not that it matters since the Last Story is the only canon one. Which is silly... they should have included something that told us which path was canon, if there was one. But I guess all the important stuff happened in the Last Story anyway...
Yeah, they definitely should have developed GUN Commander more. He was just really tacked on.
The voices... I only hated Charmy and Vector's voice, and at least Vector's voice was laughable. Charmy was just plain annoying. Everyone else I either liked (especially Eggman, repeating lines aside) or could tolerate.
But I liked the general IDEA of the game. You know, choose your own path, and that. And I actually did enjoy the game, but I'm not going to pretend it's not flawed in many areas. I thought it was better than Sonic Heroes, at least.
Ah well, there's always Sonic Rush, the hope of Sonic Riders, then next-gen Sonic.

Dang, I had just about forgotten about the Commander until you guys mentioned him. Heck, I'd like just an explanation as to why he has eyes of two different colors! Or at least knowing what the significance is....not like he lost an eye, seeing as he had them as a kid.
Maybe it's because I'm on a Ratchet: Deadlocked kick right now, or maybe it's just satisfying to help wipe out virtual humanity, but I kinda liked those "hunt down GUN or Black Arms soldiers" missions. (Of course, I'm also in that 10% that actually enjoyed the Emerald hunting levels of SA and SA2 : p)
Controls...didn't have much beef with that. Despite it going against all that the Sonic series stands for, taking things a tad slower does make things easier. If you rush through the major battlegrounds, you'll just end up subjecting yourself to "Damn!"-inducing enemy hits.
Looking back now, I think one of the major faults with the game is the loading times, especially when you happen to have this sequence of cutscenes that's constantly being interrupted (30 seconds of loading for a 10-second cutscene?! Whuuut?!). A lock-on button wouldn't have hurt either. Nothing bums ya out like firing the biggest dang weapon you have, only to see it zoom right past an unsuspecting enemy. : p

I just figure he's albino in one eye, or something. *shrug* Quote: Maybe it's because I'm on a Ratchet: Deadlocked kick right now, or maybe it's just satisfying to help wipe out virtual humanity, but I kinda liked those "hunt down GUN or Black Arms soldiers" missions. (Of course, I'm also in that 10% that actually enjoyed the Emerald hunting levels of SA and SA2 : p) Yeah, the basic shooting is kinda fun, but it's just too easy to miss a few people who you need to kill while going through the level, IMO. They should have implemented some sort of radar, like the SA/2 radar (and I kinda enjoyed the SA/2 hunts in some of the levels, too, if only for that). Quote: Controls...didn't have much beef with that. Despite it going against all that the Sonic series stands for, taking things a tad slower does make things easier. If you rush through the major battlegrounds, you'll just end up subjecting yourself to "Damn!"-inducing enemy hits. Yeah, it seems that people just want to hurtle through the levels at top speed, even though speedy characters have never turned well while going breakneck. xp I didn't have any major problems with the controls when going at a middling speed. I have a had a few homing attack blunders, though. It usually helps if you tilt the stick towards the enemy you want to attack, instead of just pressing A in midair, but sometimes Shadow just wants to go zooming off through the air... but that's been pretty rare. Heck, just something to indicate who Shadow happened to be aiming at would have been great. And as for bazooka weapons, I only used them in one mission where they were actually useful, and the lock-on weapons took forever to actually hit the enemy. I pretty much stuck with standard guns.

Everyone else I either liked (especially Eggman, repeating lines aside) or could tolerate. That's only because Charmy has the exact same voice as Max from Pokemon so there's a reason to hate his voice. Quote: Finally beat the Final Story segment the other night, after about two months of playing it (guess that isn't too bad in terms of gameplay life, eh?). The game itself should take over 3 days at the least to complete, including the final story.

^Oh freaking yeah. I'm on the path that's following Team Chaotix right now, stressing over Cosmic Fall. Why...WHY does it have to be timed?! gonk It screws with my mentality and causes me to commit a lot of mistakes! e_o;; *twitch*
But I really am enjoying the game so far. whee My only quirks are with the Homing Attack, Triangle Jump (it's not that annoying, but I just found it needless to add that wall-running tweak), and...*shudder* Vector's voice. It's worse than Heroes. gonk I don't have a beef with all the other voices I've heard so far.
On another note, when I heard Knuckles yell, "Help! We're getting sucked into the tornado!" I found myself quipping spontaneously, "Why don't you summon your Dark Magician?" I swear Knuckles sounds like Yami Yugi. xd

When I first came across the ARK levels, I swear my cries of anguish were heard across Bristol! I positively loathed the ARK in SA2 (or to be more precise, Final Rush and Final Chase) and to be faced with it again... *shudders* As it happened though, they're a heck of a lot easier than their SA2 counterparts. Grinding rails work, for a start.
Really must get back to this game at some point, but Doctor Who New Adventures continue to get in the way...
