I had a B'nai mitzvah with my twin brother. It was really fun but I was completely freaking out and was very close to a nervous breakdown. In the end, I was so happy! I made zero mistakes and my cantor said that I should become a Hebrew tutor at my temple or a rabbi!! biggrin

aoi jyuu thuganomix101 My bar mitzvah's...president's day next year whee Yes, I am young... Any celebrity's... I dunno, Mira Zeitlin my distant (?) cousing might be there (I dunno). I figure I should send invintations to the shitehouse and read my replies xd . I'm gonna invite celeb's and see what they say (that should be fun). My parsha is... (forgets name) the one talking about how slaves be released or something.... I wish I had a more actiony one like Lot getin' laid by his daughters xd my friend had that... it was fun to tease our portions. my other jewish friend got the one dealing with drugs, sex (and rock n' roll) alcohal.. something like that. and my friend minmin had the same parashat as you. I figured out the actual parsha, Mishbateem!

My bat mitzvah was June 15, 2002. I don't remember which parasha... It doesn't really matter, actually, since my synagogue was on a weird cycle then. We were doing the Torah readings on a Babylonian triannial cycle, which means you read a third of a parasha a week straight through- so one week would be the first third of Bereshit, then the second third of Bereshit the next week, and so on. But we did the regular Haftarah readings. So it didn't match up at all and was really dumb. My Torah reading- which I did all of 3nodding was about Yosef in jail, and the baker and butler's dreams. The Haftarah was Shmuel's speech at Shaul's coronation. They had nothing to do with each other at all... Oh, and we also did the normal Maftir, so that was annoying because we had to switch scrolls before I could just get it over with. But my party was the awesomest thing ever! We got a permit to have the street in front of my house blocked off and put the DJ in our neighbor's driveway across from our house, and food in our driveway, and a tent in back with 'grown up food' and we danced in the street. Dude, that was an awesome party... Even if I barely ate anything >_<

I've always found the Babylonian way of doing things odd but interesting. ^^; Quote: My Torah reading- which I did all of 3nodding was about Yosef in jail, and the baker and butler's dreams. Like, the whole end of Genesis does, and I had to memorize them. WAIT NO. It was the one with the M, because that was the dream one and it was different and yeah. Miketz! Quote: Oh, and we also did the normal Maftir, so that was annoying because we had to switch scrolls before I could just get it over with. I had two scrolls, too. Double portion + maftir in different book = gonk

My Bar Mitzvah was in May, four years ago.
I don't remember a whole lot of details, other than that I read a whole lot of torah, and I got to draw the invitation.
...I think I also made my cake for the party that night. It was a big tie-dyed star of david. (tye-dye?)

oh em jyu How many of you were bar or bat mitzvahed? (Read; how many of you had to suffer through six months of training with your respective cantors? x.X; ) Anything abnormal happen? Invite any celebrities? Tell me about your experience, if you had one. biggrin My bat mitzvah was awesome. We had 215 people in attendance, I read 8 portions and a 3 1/2 page haftorah, and I got a ton of money. xd As far as celebrities go, Ellen Barkin, a semi-famous actress, and Ron Perlman, the owner of Revlon, didn't come, but they sent a private plane for all my family from Oklahoma to fly in on. My grandpa was suffering from pancreatic cancer at the time. (Doesn't help that Ellen + Ron are my second cousins... xD; ) Also, I invited Al Franken. He didn't come. But he sent me a nice note. You know Al Franken or you randomly invited him?
