Uzi continued to eye Kaosu with a predatory gaze, the essentic not willing to let it's guard down just yet " What was her job, who did she belong to?" These were important questions, if the essentic had been his brother, had been meant to protect him.. well then some part of Uzi did not blame the man. In No way did the armored proto wish to die but if it failed Eli if it was incapable of serving it's purpose than what was the point of living? Drente was large and world filled with many things but for Uzi there was only the hunt, and Eli, losing either one would be devastating.

Kaosu had dropped his guard long ago. They were on his turf. He had a huge advantage. Far more than frag mines lurked all over the area. The inside of the warehouse was a treacherous maze. It would be child's play to escape the Essentic, should she choose to turn hostile. Fortunately, it seemed she could be reasoned with. "It doesn't matter," he stated bluntly. "The means don't justify the ends. I had no reason to save her, and that's all that's important."
He did have reason to save her. Plenty of it. He was merely trying to change the subject again. After all, the feline would not understand his motives anyways. Kaji hadn't failed her purpose. Quite the opposite. No Essentic would comprehend why that was an issue.

" I still wish you to answer the questions" There was more demand to uzi's tone now as the essentics voice rumbled and echoed around them. The lionlike being could decide for itself how it felt about the situation if it knew what had happened.

"Then ask different ones," Kaosu replied flatly, clearly unwilling to return to the topic. "I fail to see how my pre-Hunt life story will help you improve yourself. And if you seek entertainment, bother your owner. I am no raconteur." Why had he answered such personal questions in the first place? Big mistake. He had only piqued the feline's curiosity. Hopefully she would be content to either give up or change from the touchy subject.

" What is a raconteur." The word was strange and hard for Uzi to say even without actually speaking the way humans did. The essentic was mostly curious at this point not so much seeking entertainment as trying to understand this man who had both killed essentics and left them to die. Was the issue with Uzi's kind or mankind? Or was it simply that there could be no peace between creator and created?
" Answer that and I will leave," Even at Uzi's top speed it was a ways back to Galvao lands and Uzi had no intention of staying out the entire night.

There. That was a much less intimidating thing to answer. "A raconteur is a storyteller," Kaosu explained flatly, a little miffed that he had reduced himself to defining terms for some Essentic. He had no idea that his personal information had triggered such profound questions for the feline. Frankly, had she voiced her real inquiries, he would have been seriously impressed. Not many of her kind at her age delved so deeply.
"Before you leave," he added impulsively, retrieving the landmine from the steps. After tinkering with it a moment, he removed the trigger device, effectively disarming it. "Would you do me a favor? Take this back to Eli with you. I've made it so it's harmless." He hoped that the hunter would be a bit shaken to see his precious pet hanging on to what appeared to be a live explosive. If Uzi complied, it would be good, petty revenge for driving Kao off.
"He'll understand what it means. I'm trying to, er... make amends. It's a human thing."

Uzi didn't understand humans or amends or why storytellers needed special names. The armored lion like essentic didn't see how using itself to ferry a gift was more effective than going and giving it himself. Still, Uzi nodded and reached out to take the now harmless mine into it's mouth . As far as the hunter was concerned it was an interesting gift from what type of killer to another, perhaps it would have a special meaning that the proto didn't yet understand.
Silently and carefully retracing it's steps so as to avoid stepping on a life mine Uzi headed back towards Eli. It was no more assured of it's place in the world, of it's bond with Eli or the concept of souls and purposes. If anything Uzi was more distressed and lost than when it had found Kaosu.
Sometimes curiosity satisfied serves only to confuse the cat.
