Act of Random Kindness In unrelated news, after checking a few topics, I feel I'm too stupid to be in this guild.... O.O;; The quality of posts here just means you'll be in company with people who will actually know what they are talking about. And hey you may teach us a thing or too wink .

Nah, I'm not that smart and not that into teaching, way too hard for me. I'll just soak up all I can while throwing a few of my more gathered opinions into the mix too.
But yeah, I like this guild so far. Very educational, lots of different points of views, lovin' it! ^_^
Also I'm kinda sheltered. I grew up with nothing but Christianity. I'd like to learn alot about lots of different religions, especially on the topics of Wicca, Astrology, and tarot cards. I find them interesting, dunno why. :/

This is for all members to introduce themselves to the guild. First Name: You can call me Addy Age: 21 Religion: Christianity Denomination: Baptist What drew you to this guild? I really wanted to be a part of a Christian guild, but not just any guild, a guild with actual CHRISTIANS in it and not just people who call themselves Christians. I wanted to find a place where I could talk to Christians about Christiany stuff. I've kind of been feeling like I've been slipping away lately, but I feel that just a little fellowship might be the boost I need to my faith. Influential quote: "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard so that we do not drift away." Hebrews 2:1

First Name: Bobby! Age: Soon to be 22. Religion: None!I'm an atheist. Denomination: Uhm...I guess I'll go ahead and say something generically atheistic? Science and logic!
What drew you to this guild?
How frustrating it is that so many Christians argue about other people's belief systems when they barely know anything about their own.

@RPG guy Welcome to the guild.
Just some things I wanted to point out. Atheist does not mean that one does not have a religion. The term for not having a is irreligious. Atheism is a belief stance on the non-existence of a deity or deities. There are Atheistic religions, such as LeVey Satanism and some sects of Buddhism (I am ignorant to which sects are or are not atheistic).
Also you seem to state that you follow science and logic as if religion and science are diametrically opposed. Why do you believe this?

You're right about atheism... I'm an irreligious atheist,or maybe not quite... My personal belief is that there is very likely no God,but I may change my mind if enough convincing evidence is shown to me.
As for religion,I'm personally convinced that no existing religion is the "true" one,and if there is in fact a God(or several?),then he/she/it/they are nothing like we imagine them to be. That's what I've come to conclude based on my knowledge and experience.
However, different people can come to very different conclusions,so I may very well be wrong...But it'd take a lot to convince me otherwise, because of what I consider to be strong evidence.
What's funny though is that strong evidence for one person can be seen as utter nonsense by others. I kind of like the idea of everyone being wrong, including myself. If there's an afterlife, wouldn't it be neat if when you got there if you were like "Ooooh,so THAT's how it is",and people already there are like "Yeah dude,I was totally shocked too!"? Just an entertaining thought, even if I also believe that there is very likely no afterlife. It's fun to let your imagination run like that.
Oh,and I'm sorry if I implied that science and religion are 100% opposed, because that's not what I meant. The two only get opposed if you get into the finer details(of both science and religion). At which point you have to dismiss parts of one of the two as not being true,or as being methaphorical/subject to interpretation.
A person who strongly believes that their religion is the absolute truth will use the knowledge and tools from that religion to explain the world around them. An irreligious person will most often use the scientific method to understand the world around them(with science and logic).
That is what I meant by saying that I follow science and logic;I don't think there is a preset "absolute truth" that was put there for us long ago,but rather that we have to find truth on our own,by using our observation and learning abilities,by experimenting, and by using critical inquiry. I guess this doesn't really count as a denomination, but didn't really know what else to put there!
EDIT:Another funny thought is that many theists also believe that the truth is out there, but we have to find it.The difference is that the tools used will most often differ. Another interesting thing is that there are many people who, after searching for a long time for the truth, will dump religion altogether. Others will actually become believers and be convinced that they've found the truth.
But what is the truth,really?
2ND EDIT: Oops,I just remembered that this is the introductions thread...Sorry!

First Name: Eris Age: 20 Religion: Christian Denomination: non-denominational
What drew you to this guild? I wanted to fellowship with other christians that truly believed in the Bible and at least knows it adequetly. I like reading all the different point of views about controversial subjects.
Influential quote: "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. (Luke 17:6)
I personally view christianity as an intimate relationship with God and not a 'religion' as religions are thought out to be. (I dont believe God wanted us to be ritualistic in our relationship with Him) God knows that we are ignorant, so he wrote the Bible as simple as he could. I believe God to be straight forward and literal. I hear scientists say " That cant happen" But I always seem to think " With God, all things are possible."

This is a very interesting group of pages from John Calvin's book. There a several things in here that I haven't even thought about myself. I agree with most of his writings.
