Zia laughed and leaned closer to its sister. "La, girl, it's not magic. Just a simple trick. See?" It repeated the motions, this time letting Rhian see where the coin went. "Someday I'll learn real magic, but for now, this works, yeah?" It looked down at the coin now in its open palm. "Fortune telling is a small part of the family business, though, sister. We're con men. Do you know what that means?"

Rhian shook her head. "It's still magic if people think it's magic!" she chirped happily, fluttering her wings as she did so. She paused for a moment flicked her antennae around before nodding. "You trick people, right? Tricky-tricks that get shinies?"

Zia nodded. "Yes, little sister. We trick people. We craft clever lies to make them trust us and give us money. We sell them dreams and stories. Sometimes, what we tell them is true, but sometimes not. Da will intentionally tell someone a lie to get their money if the truth will hurt them or if he thinks they'll use the truth to hurt others." It held the coin out to Rhian. "Want to learn the pretend magic? It's called sleight-of-hand and it's very useful sometimes for entertaining or stealing."

"So you trick. . . but it can be good to trick, then?" Rhian asked, wanting very much to understand her sibling and what it did. "Yes, yes, please teach me the pretend-magic!" She was trying not to listen to the sounds coming from the bedroom, she knew better than to ask by now, though she couldn't help but wonder what they meant. . .

Zia held out a spare coin to Rhian to teach her to roll it on the back of her knuckles and how to tuck it away to make it appear to vanish. "It takes some practice, but keep at it. Once you get that trick down, I'll teach you some others." It smiled, watching its sister, also ignoring the noises from the bedroom. It knew all too well what was going on in there and chose not to acknowledge it. However . . . "Rhian, you do know what Mama and Da do when they're alone, right? You know they're not hurting each other, don't you?"

Rhian tried to copy Zia's motions, but the fact that her hands were semi-translucent made it basically impossible to effectivle hide the coin. "I can't do it!" She complained, twitching her antennae in annoyance. "I know they're not hurting, they're too happy to be hurting, but I dont' understand all the other feelings they have when they make those noises. . ." She admitted, not liking the fact that she couldn't really understand what was happening behind that door.

Zia tilted its head at the translucent hand issue. "Perhaps gloves would help. I could get you some next time I'm out to get you some cotton candy." It twisted a bit in the chair, resting an arm across the back of the chair, and looked at the door. "I'm not sure I understand it myself, really. I know they love each other and it's an expression of that love. It's probably sort of like when I hug or kiss Crux, but more so. Physical love. I guess that's a good way to put it. They want to be so close to each other, to share their emotions so much, they're actually, for a little while, a part of each other. I don't know it that makes sense." It looked at it's sister, shrugging a skinny shoulder. "What they do when they're alone is why Mama's going to have bairns."

Rhian flicked her atennae once. "Gloves? What are gloves? And. . . I don't understand but I suppose it's okay not to?"

"You'll understand it when you're older, sis." Zia got up and went to the dresser to look through another drawer, finding some gloves. They were fingerless and made of black lace and Zia tried not to wonder why, exactly, Fao had them. Still, they looked like they might fit the proto and so Zia brought them over and offered them to her. "Try these on."

Rhian fluttered her wings so excitedly that had she not been tightly anchored t the back of the chair, she would have bumped her head on the ceiling. "For me to wear? Really? For me, for me?" Sure, she'd been given fluffy treat on many occasions, but it wasn't common at all in Rhian's (short) life for her to receive a more concrete - even if likely temporary - gift.

Zia nodded, helping her put the gloves on. "There, lass. Should help hide the coins when you pretend to make them vanish. This'll be a much better than cotton candy or other kets I usually give you."
Behind closed doors, Faolan lay on the floor, staring up at the ceiling with a happy smile and half-closed eyes, cat-like contentment showing on his handsome features. Shifting a bit under Ellandra, he moved a hand from her back to stroke her hair, not minding at all her use of his chest as a pillow.
"La, wife, tha' wis joost whit Ah wis needin'," he drawled out in his half-purr voice, accent thick with his relaxation. "Nowt t' keen on ma 'bilities t' gae walkin' bouts t' soon."

Rhian flicked Ziazan with her antennae. "Thank you, sibling-Zi! . . . . And they're quiet again now. . ."
Ellandra mumbled something vaguely in response to what Faolan said, trying not to show just how much that accent of his affected her. "Mmmm..........." She murmured, snuggling even closer (were it possible) to her husband.

Ziazan nodded at the thanks and looked at the door. "They'll probably be out soon." It returned its gaze to its sister. "In the meantime, you can practice the magic trick again."
Faolan chuckled softly, hugging his wife and snuggling under the blanket he'd pulled off the bed to cover them. "An' here Ah thoughts you didnae likes when Ah use ma true byleid. Didnae think you could ken t' th' words." He looked down at her, mischievous glints in his eyes.

Rhian nodded, and, staying silent for now, concentrated on trying to do what Ziazan had showed her - she gradually, but visibly, improved at it, despite her attention wandering to what was going on with her and Ziazan's "parents".
Ellandra tried to think of a response to what Faolan had just said, but his speaking had effectively rendered her into mush, so she only managed another "Mmmm...", melting into a puddle of happy mental goo in her husband's arms.

Zia smiled, watching Rhian's improvement. "Wanna try learning some card tricks now?"
Fao sighed softly, stretching under his wife like a cat waking up. "Should thinks aboot gettin' up, lass. Th' bairns'll be worryin'." He moved to sit up, pulling Elle up to snuggle against his chest, and looked down at her. "Ay, lass. You seem t' be knackered after all tha'." Scooting around to pull his legs in, sitting more comfortably, he pulled Ellandra into his lap and proceeded nipping at her neck and shoulder playfully, then purred in her ear, "Best come 'round, wife, afore Ah thinks t' try seein' if'n you'll let me do tha' thing you complain aboot."
