Lord Comrade-X How will we reach a post-scarcity society? To be more descriptive will the overabundance of goods be caused by a more efficient system of producing goods, or by people taking control of the population problem and controlling each other’s consumption habits creating a system to optimize the consumption of goods? Increasing efficiency in production (through better productive technique, better technology and through the production or more durable and adaptable products) and a slow, prolonged drop in population. This reduction will come about through a greater ability on the part of women to choose if they want to have children, and to enforce that decision (through free quality contraception and free abortion on demand) which will be occasioned by the greater participation of women in social life and production, as can be seen in the advanced capitalist countries (where population growth is maintained solely through immigration). The whole point through is to not restrain or control consumption, but to make excess and hoarding redundant.
