First Encounters
Joliette had managed to calm down a bit and was now in the process of setting up camera stuff in the middle of the village, her tripod, her telephoto lens and a plethera of other cases and her laptop all surrounded her, she had the intentions of photographing some of the surrounding area and the sky... for lack of anything better to do more then anything.
She lifted her Telephoto lens atop the tripod and firmly mounted it, it was rather large as on it's end it came to her knees and was quite thick around. "There" she mused making sure it was solid before moving to attatch the camera to the lens which in itself did not take a long timeChubbs yawned as he made his way through the village, hand in his pocket and cigarette in his other. Smacking his lips together he walked barefoot through the area, looking at the groud and at each building he passed.
" Hmm which one was it again?"
Joliette looked throught eh viewfinder at hte treeline she didn't hear the man's footsteps or his words as she snapped a series of photos. She stood up slightly and tapped a couple notes into the laptopChubbs blinked and turned around, nearly bumping ito the woman behind him as heard the sound of whirling and clicking from her camera.
" Woa!, hey ah, sorry, didnt see ya there"
He rubbed the back of his head, a nervous reaction. He probably shouldn't have used the hand he had the smoke in, as the hot ember fell on his neck.
" Ah!, dammit!"
Chubbs quickly tossed the smoke on the ground and stomped it out with his bare heel. With a twist he lifted his foot and picked up the butt, looking around for a bin. Not seeing one in sight, he slipped it in his pocket and blushed redly as he looked back to his near accident.
" Ah sorry again"
Joliette stood more upright slightly startled, well he wasn't changed, she knew she had not seen him before "It's ok" Joliette said in her thick British accent "Accidents can happen" she nods looking up at the man who seemed to be acting rather meak for someone his sizeChubbs new he was blushing, and that made him blush more. He smiled at least at her talking, she had a nice sound.
" Umm ya gotta nice accent"
He peered behind her, spotting the camera and made a face like he was about to whistle
" Oh cool, ya like a sports writer, you here for the fight?"
Chubbs wanted something to talk about other than the silly one line he just said previously
" Or ya work here?"
"I'm from Britain... and uh no I'm a Photo journalist.. kinda.. and I dont work here and I have heard nothing about any fights that are sports related" she said associating fight with the sports he mentioned "Nope like everyone else I'm simply trapped here"Chubbs raised a brow then chuckled and nodded
" Ain't we all?"
He jiggled a bit when he laughed then looked around him some more at the surrounding buildings.
" I'm so going to get lost here, .. umm, you know where the food place is?"
"Yup we are" she grumbled trying to keep her temper in check. She took a deep breath and spoke "Yeah I do, it's one of hte few places I do know" she said and turned and pointed at hte large building "Cafeteria is in there" she told himChubbs looked behind him and looked to the building she pointed at. He wasnt sure what he said had ticked her off, maybe cuz he was rude?
" Oh umm, thanks... and ah, m-my names Chubbs by the way"
He offered her a gloved hand as a handshake, hoping she wouldnt be too mad at him
She looked back at him "Joliette" she said sounding calmer once again as she took his hand, for her size she had a firm grip. "It is nice to meet you" she nods "You are here for a ... fight?" she asks He 'd looked back to the building once more, pondering what the place had in stock.
" Hmm ... a fight? yeah, gotta train up first, help the kids out ya know?"
He reached in his back pocket to pull out a black leather worn wallet with initials " DM" written on it, flipping it open, he pulled out a small photo of a bunch of kids in boxing gloves all tackling on Chubbs with everyone laughing. About twelve in total.
"Your kids? Or simply a youth program?" she asked looking at the photograph feeling sorry for the children who were in it regardless of relatives or not she stuck one hand into one of the larger pockets of her vest fidgetting with a roll of film as she askedChubbs went red at the idea, that he'd have had that many kids. Who the heck with he wondered
" M-my k..? oh nah, nah, heh I haven't even had... em"
Chubbs blinked, realising he should change the subject quickly.
"They are bunch of kids round the neighbourhood, I keeps em outa trouble and show em how to look after themselves. I want to get em a better place to come to then an old warehouse"
He put the photo away and tucked his wallet back in his pocket, still feeling the warmth of his blush
"I'm sure you did well for them" she said "I've never found a lot of time for such myself, before winding up here all I had was my job" she motioned at her telephoto lens and camera equipment that she managed to have cluttering the base of hte tripodChubbs eyed the camera over, inspecting it closely
" Looks cool, must be a pricey one huh?"
He looked around for a moment and walked to a spot closest to a building and sat down, leaning against the wall.
" Sorry just a bit tired, needed to sit"
He then stretched and fetched around for his cigarette packet in his pocket.
"Yeah, but I've been collecting camera stuff since I was a kid so it was just one more piece I needed" she took a breath and tipped the hard shell case of her lense on it's end and sat on it "No worries" she pulled her hand back out from her pocket Chubbs selected a cig from the pack and tucked it behind his ear as he put the pack away
" Oh?, how much have you got? I've been collecting hats some, not many, I just like em"
He pulled his hood over his head and crossed his legs as he put the smoke between his lips and patted around for his lighter. Finding it in his side pocket, he lit the cigarette and put the lighter away.
"This is most of it, a few lenses back in my duplex, and a few on the mainland that I'll never see again" she sighed softly "I'm just glad all my best lenses are here" she mused looking at her equipment for a moment "Where are you from Chubbs?" she asked now curious and figuring if he was stuck there too she might as well learn more about him too.He nodded, listening to her slightly, he was trying but he was tired. He puffed on the cig and relaxed some, a really nice relaxed
" I'm from Australia, but been in Brooklyn the last 5 years, trying to help out the neighbourhood"
He hoped his name was small enough that a woman in her field hadn't known who he was, it was good enough that she wasn't in the sports field
" How about you?"
"Born in France and raised in Britain" She said "I spent near all my life in Britain" she said "Came here looking for a scoop for the World Weekly News and got a lil more then I bargained for I will admit that openly"" Oh?, what's that like?, is Britain nice?"
Chubbs winced at the question he asked, it was rather dumb. He was never good in female company. He decided to shut his mouth by smoking instead, he wished he had something to eat instead though.
"Britain's a lil dreary at times but I liked it" she smiled "As for my work, it's also my hobby and overall... my lively hood" she stood and set the case down once more unhooking her camera from the lens facing him again as she closed it up "I just hope I can keep doing it here""Joliette" she said with a nod and a small smile "All right I'm in 27 is you ever want to visit" and unhooked the huge lense and hefted it off the tripod "I think I'm gonna go in too, so I'll see you again"Chubbs blushed again and winced, what was it with him and female names. He offered a shy smile and waved
" I'll see ya round probably"
With that he headed back to his room, forgetting about his cafeteria run.
Joliette watched him depart for a moment and started making trips returning all her stuff to her duplex closing hte door and locking it tight behind her.
