Sabin actually laughed at that. "Welll... I don't have any here... but they do have candy in the cafeteria near where you'll be staying, and you're welcome to help yourself there." Sabin winked.

"And speaking of... you ready to go to your accomodations?"

Humour often helped with getting along easier with people, Chubbs realised it was a defensive reflex for him, often disguising his shyness with laughter.

" Oh sure, so like the foods free?, is it open all night, I kinda like night time snacks"

Chubbs began towards the elevator, excited about the cafeteria and his temporary quarters.

"Yup!" Sabin replied with a smile. "though the food available might be slimmer pickings around night time. But you have a fridge and a microwave in your room if you want to bring anything back with you for later."

He led Chubbs out the way they came, finally arriving back at the same Jeep, where Sabin hopped back to the driver's seat.

"You feeling okay, buddy? Hope your arm isn't doing too bad. Different people have different reactions."

Chubbs squeezed back into the jeep, first smacking the door against his thigh until he leaned over and tried shutting it again.

" No no, I'm pretty good, umm, should be right for the fight"

Least he hoped so, he was a little out of shape, he new that, and tomorrow he had to get back into training. Speaking of which..

"You guys have somewhere I can hang my bag up?"

Sabin took the jeep out of the complex in a different direction, and as they headed down a hill, a small grouping of what looked like apartment buildings came into view. They were all two-story buildings, with the same architecture and coloring save for one larger single-story building in the middle. On the edge of the little "village" was a river that cut its way from the jungle, and out towards the beach.

"You're welcome to hang your bag either in your room, on your porch, or heck, you could probably even find a place in the central town center if you can find a good place for it."

Sabin pulled up to one of the two-story buildings that looked identical to all of hte others. "Yours is number 25. The downstairs one." HE smiled. "No one's upstairs yet, but someone might be arriving in the next couple of days.

Sabin got out of the vehicle and picked up the carry-on, while he walked towards the duplex, opening the door. "If you need anyone from the center, dial zero on the intercom."

He gestured to the inside. "Welcome home!" He laughed.

Chubbs was amazed at the duplex, he'd never stayed in anything so nice. He smiled and got himself out of the jeep, creaking again as he did. He felt Sabin shouldn't have to carry his stuff, but he still grabbed the punching bacg all the same. Chubbs thought it strange he laughed at saying welcome home but he chuckled anyway and made his way to his door and inside.

He was even more amazed at the inside, he was tempted to never leave.

Sabin set the bag down on the desk and pulled out the key to the duplex, setting it down next to the bag.

"And that's everything, I think. Take it easy today, and help yourself to the food in the cafeteria - it was the big building you saw on the way in. And... I guess that's it! A few of the other fighters are here already, but most of the people here are either here for other reasons, or to watch." He smiled.

Sabin walked to the front door, pausing as he turned back to Chubbs. "Anything else I can help with?"

Chubbs was too busy checking out his new pad and looking in the fridge at some of the things inside. It almost felt like he was important for some reason, like a prize fighter.

He came back to earth when Sabin spoke to him by the door, and blinked and turned to him, rubbing the back of his head

" Ummm, I should be set, might have a bit of a kip before I go check out ya wares in the cafeteria"

He smiled shyly and walked to his bag, beggining to unpack stuff when he looked up again.

" Oh and thanks for the lift"

"No problem! Have fun and enjoy exploring." Sabin replied.

With a wave, and the affirmation that the boxer was making himself at home, Sabin headed back to the jeep, and then the lab.

As soon as the door closed, Chubbs flopped on his bed with a " Wooo! " and laughed, bouncing on it lightly. Mmmm clean sheets, comfy bed, boy was it nice to be in them. Chubbs stretched out, he was feeling really relaxed in his new place. He kicked his shoes off and put his hands behind his head and watched the ceiling, thinking about the days events.

Chubbs yawned and sat back up, peeling his socks off with a " phew!". He took a long stretch and fished around in his pocket, patting the Winnie blues and lighter he had. Takign a look at the room, he decided he wasn't going to ruin it with the stink of smoke and thus rolled up his pants cuffs, pulled up his sleeves and grabbed his key, heading out the door.

First Encounters

Joliette had managed to calm down a bit and was now in the process of setting up camera stuff in the middle of the village, her tripod, her telephoto lens and a plethera of other cases and her laptop all surrounded her, she had the intentions of photographing some of the surrounding area and the sky... for lack of anything better to do more then anything.

She lifted her Telephoto lens atop the tripod and firmly mounted it, it was rather large as on it's end it came to her knees and was quite thick around. "There" she mused making sure it was solid before moving to attatch the camera to the lens which in itself did not take a long time

Chubbs yawned as he made his way through the village, hand in his pocket and cigarette in his other. Smacking his lips together he walked barefoot through the area, looking at the groud and at each building he passed.

" Hmm which one was it again?"

Joliette looked throught eh viewfinder at hte treeline she didn't hear the man's footsteps or his words as she snapped a series of photos. She stood up slightly and tapped a couple notes into the laptop

Chubbs blinked and turned around, nearly bumping ito the woman behind him as heard the sound of whirling and clicking from her camera.

" Woa!, hey ah, sorry, didnt see ya there"

He rubbed the back of his head, a nervous reaction. He probably shouldn't have used the hand he had the smoke in, as the hot ember fell on his neck.

" Ah!, dammit!"

Chubbs quickly tossed the smoke on the ground and stomped it out with his bare heel. With a twist he lifted his foot and picked up the butt, looking around for a bin. Not seeing one in sight, he slipped it in his pocket and blushed redly as he looked back to his near accident.

" Ah sorry again"

Joliette stood more upright slightly startled, well he wasn't changed, she knew she had not seen him before "It's ok" Joliette said in her thick British accent "Accidents can happen" she nods looking up at the man who seemed to be acting rather meak for someone his size

Chubbs new he was blushing, and that made him blush more. He smiled at least at her talking, she had a nice sound.

" Umm ya gotta nice accent"

He peered behind her, spotting the camera and made a face like he was about to whistle

" Oh cool, ya like a sports writer, you here for the fight?"

Chubbs wanted something to talk about other than the silly one line he just said previously

" Or ya work here?"

"I'm from Britain... and uh no I'm a Photo journalist.. kinda.. and I dont work here and I have heard nothing about any fights that are sports related" she said associating fight with the sports he mentioned "Nope like everyone else I'm simply trapped here"

Chubbs raised a brow then chuckled and nodded

" Ain't we all?"

He jiggled a bit when he laughed then looked around him some more at the surrounding buildings.

" I'm so going to get lost here, .. umm, you know where the food place is?"

"Yup we are" she grumbled trying to keep her temper in check. She took a deep breath and spoke "Yeah I do, it's one of hte few places I do know" she said and turned and pointed at hte large building "Cafeteria is in there" she told him

Chubbs looked behind him and looked to the building she pointed at. He wasnt sure what he said had ticked her off, maybe cuz he was rude?

" Oh umm, thanks... and ah, m-my names Chubbs by the way"

He offered her a gloved hand as a handshake, hoping she wouldnt be too mad at him

She looked back at him "Joliette" she said sounding calmer once again as she took his hand, for her size she had a firm grip. "It is nice to meet you" she nods "You are here for a ... fight?" she asks

He 'd looked back to the building once more, pondering what the place had in stock.

" Hmm ... a fight? yeah, gotta train up first, help the kids out ya know?"

He reached in his back pocket to pull out a black leather worn wallet with initials " DM" written on it, flipping it open, he pulled out a small photo of a bunch of kids in boxing gloves all tackling on Chubbs with everyone laughing. About twelve in total.

"Your kids? Or simply a youth program?" she asked looking at the photograph feeling sorry for the children who were in it regardless of relatives or not she stuck one hand into one of the larger pockets of her vest fidgetting with a roll of film as she asked

Chubbs went red at the idea, that he'd have had that many kids. Who the heck with he wondered

" M-my k..? oh nah, nah, heh I haven't even had... em"

Chubbs blinked, realising he should change the subject quickly.

"They are bunch of kids round the neighbourhood, I keeps em outa trouble and show em how to look after themselves. I want to get em a better place to come to then an old warehouse"

He put the photo away and tucked his wallet back in his pocket, still feeling the warmth of his blush

"I'm sure you did well for them" she said "I've never found a lot of time for such myself, before winding up here all I had was my job" she motioned at her telephoto lens and camera equipment that she managed to have cluttering the base of hte tripod

Chubbs eyed the camera over, inspecting it closely

" Looks cool, must be a pricey one huh?"

He looked around for a moment and walked to a spot closest to a building and sat down, leaning against the wall.

" Sorry just a bit tired, needed to sit"

He then stretched and fetched around for his cigarette packet in his pocket.

"Yeah, but I've been collecting camera stuff since I was a kid so it was just one more piece I needed" she took a breath and tipped the hard shell case of her lense on it's end and sat on it "No worries" she pulled her hand back out from her pocket

Chubbs selected a cig from the pack and tucked it behind his ear as he put the pack away

" Oh?, how much have you got? I've been collecting hats some, not many, I just like em"

He pulled his hood over his head and crossed his legs as he put the smoke between his lips and patted around for his lighter. Finding it in his side pocket, he lit the cigarette and put the lighter away.

"This is most of it, a few lenses back in my duplex, and a few on the mainland that I'll never see again" she sighed softly "I'm just glad all my best lenses are here" she mused looking at her equipment for a moment "Where are you from Chubbs?" she asked now curious and figuring if he was stuck there too she might as well learn more about him too.

He nodded, listening to her slightly, he was trying but he was tired. He puffed on the cig and relaxed some, a really nice relaxed

" I'm from Australia, but been in Brooklyn the last 5 years, trying to help out the neighbourhood"

He hoped his name was small enough that a woman in her field hadn't known who he was, it was good enough that she wasn't in the sports field

" How about you?"

"Born in France and raised in Britain" She said "I spent near all my life in Britain" she said "Came here looking for a scoop for the World Weekly News and got a lil more then I bargained for I will admit that openly"

" Oh?, what's that like?, is Britain nice?"

Chubbs winced at the question he asked, it was rather dumb. He was never good in female company. He decided to shut his mouth by smoking instead, he wished he had something to eat instead though.

"Britain's a lil dreary at times but I liked it" she smiled "As for my work, it's also my hobby and overall... my lively hood" she stood and set the case down once more unhooking her camera from the lens facing him again as she closed it up "I just hope I can keep doing it here"

"Joliette" she said with a nod and a small smile "All right I'm in 27 is you ever want to visit" and unhooked the huge lense and hefted it off the tripod "I think I'm gonna go in too, so I'll see you again"

Chubbs blushed again and winced, what was it with him and female names. He offered a shy smile and waved

" I'll see ya round probably"

With that he headed back to his room, forgetting about his cafeteria run.

Joliette watched him depart for a moment and started making trips returning all her stuff to her duplex closing hte door and locking it tight behind her.

The crowds were so loud he could hear them from the the locker room. A thousand voices cheering and chanting. The sweat poured down Chubbs' face, dripping onto his black glove. The sounds began to fade.

Ga - Thump

Chubbs stood up and exited the room, heading out into the long stretch to the ring, over the speakers he could hear.

" Ladies and gentlemen... David Chuuuuuuubbs MacKraken!"

Chubbs walked out into the arena and into a bush. Pushing his way through, he found himself in a forest at night.

Ga - Thump

The sounds of the crickets died out as he entered, the deadly still eery silence was causing him to look around, almost panicing. The moon shone through the clouds, and a piercing cry broke through the air

" Reeeeeooow!"

Chubbs turned around, back and forth. He heres foot steps and rustling bushes, something was moving from where he came

Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump

He ran, through the great pines, as fast as he could, yet his pursuer was always behind him. The trees seemed to be thicker and closer as he ran, closing in around him. He fought his way through the branches, snapping them out of his way, and with one final push he landed on the ground with a thud.

Ga - Thump

Chubbs coughed and got to his feet slowly, looking in front of him. He stood before a great cave, the moonlight didnt pierce the darkness hanging about the entrance. Then he heard a growl

"Grrrrr..."

Chubbs turned and looked behind him from where the sound eminated. He froze in shock, two figures stood before him, both like four legged beasts. One eyes glowed red, the other yellow and both beasts' teeth and claws shone in the moon light. They both crept forward towards Chubbs, growling and hissing, saliva dripping from their mouths.

Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump

Chubbs backed up more, when he felt a warm huff of air wash over his back, then another, someone breathing. The two beasts ran at him, Chubbs turned and screamed out, meeting a pair of white eyes in the darkness, and a mammoth set of claws coming down. All collided and Chubbs fell into the cave, into darkness, his cries fading away.

Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump

Chubbs opened his eyes, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. He ran towards it, huffing, he smelled a sweet smell in the air.

Ga - Thump

Towards the light, so bright

" Ladies and gentlemen... David Chuuuuuuubbs MacKraken!"

So many sounds, too many sounds, too many beats.

Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump
Ga - Thump

There on the stand, he saw the challenger, the one who wanted to hurt him. No one will hurt him. Chubbs ran to the ring, so many people in the stands, all chirping like birds, too much noise, will shut them up!

Ga - Thump

Too much sound, so mad!, grrr stupid birds, stupid challenger. You want to fight.. you want to take from me? this place is mine, all mine!

"ROAAAAAARRRR!"

Chubbs snapped up from his sleep, dripping in sweat and puffing heavily. His heart was beating fast, he twisted to sit on the edge of the bed. Chubbs rested his elbows on his knees and tried to wipe the sweat from his brow. He felt so hot, he could cook an egg on his forehead. Dizzily he got up and went to the bathroom and got himself a drink from the tap. Wiping his face down, he tiredly went back to his bedand flopped back down

Chubbs awoke with stretch an a murmble, rubbing his head at the throbbing headache. He yawned loudly and slid out of bed to slip into his usual routine of toilet, shower and getting dressed.

Coming out feeling a bit fresher, his stomach grumbled and he remembered he hadn't eaten last night. Grabbing a few things up, he started puting on his boots and figured a small jog before breakfast sounded good. Grabbing his keys, he headed out the door.
