The ride on Kadar was a steady one. He galloped gently with little Yuu and the feather light Aya on his back. The Kunoichi made sure to let Yuu ride in front of her in fear that he may slip off the back. They did not have a saddle for Kadar, so a mere blanket was all that was thrown over his back for comfort. As they came around to the village, Aya smiled as she spotted familiar faces. "Tako!" Aya called out with a big grin as she spotted the sheep herder in the plains. Kadar came to a slow as he neared the village and stopped for the two to get off. Aya ran up and greeted the young man with a hug. "Tako! Thank you for looking after Kawaii and Kadar while we were gone," she said, thanking her friend as she turned to help Yuu off the horse.

"Yuu-kun this is Tako. He lives here in Sundai. He's the one that gave us Kawaii," Aya explained as she introduced the young by to her friend. "Yuu-kun is going to be living with us for awhile," she said with a smile. "He'll be my little understudy," Aya said as she patted Yuu on the back gently. "Say! Since we've been gone do you need anything? I have to head back home tonight and start making a few things up! We're only short on Ryo after we've been traveling," Aya said with a cute little grin. Everyone in Sundai had heard the stories of Aya's mad spending sprees. She was a fan of food and fashion and she had been working hard in order to earn a reputation to wear the nice silks she used to wear back home.

He embraced the neck of the horse...true, he did have part of the reins secured (as much secure as that could get) by his small hands... But at first, fear filled his veins, heart pounding wildly like a young rabbit in a hunt...but then...slowly, slowly...Kadar was at a gentle gallop, and Yuurin was convinced to open his eyes... Green-gold orbs widened, no longer afraid of the tall height from the back of the horse...and his eyes took in the beautiful scenery of a dazzling emerald valley rushing by...

The passing breeze combed gently through locks of dark raven hair...and just enough so, that it was cool against his cheek but not stinging at all...filled with exhilaration now, he even eagerly looked in the direction that Aya called to... There were so many new sights, so many new things to see, smell, hear...learn... It was exciting - a tangible excitement that he could even almost taste. Now he can tell Hu-...

It's supposed to be chichi-ue...wasn't it...?

He'll really have to get used to thinking of Huwei as father...well, San had always been a motherly figure to him, so that idea was more easier to grow accustomed too...but Hu-chichi-ue was more like a big brother figure...so it was only natural that...well...

Hah...hah...

He really was awful at this, wasn't he...? Thank goodness though Aya-nee's taking care of most of the talking... "Ano...Tako...san..." Stay calm...stay calm...don't blow Aya-nee's cover... His face was calm, though a bead of cold sweat did appear at his temple...and unexpectedly, he gave Tako a charming smile, hoping that the kind villager won't start asking him uncomfortable questions...

"Ohayou." He greeted.

"Aya-chan!" Tako greeted her with the same type of enthusiasm. Aya and Tako were close to the same age and the girl's cheery behavior was always infectious. "Oh? Is he your little brother?" Tako said and the nodded when he heard that he was going to be Aya's understudy. "Your home is getting bigger and bigger! Isn't Kazuma still there?" Tako asked, not really being a fan of the trouble maker, but still being polite enough to mention him. "Oh... Uuuuh...." Tako thought to himself as he tried to think of something they needed. "Ya'know! I wouldn't mind some more of those candies you make, Aya! Those are delicious and they even give me a boost of energy," Tako said with a grin. "I'll take two orders of those from ya," Tako said with a big grin.

"I wish he was my little brother!" Aya said as she crouched down and hugged Yuu. "Isn't really adorable isn't he? A friend of my father-in-law requested a bit of private schooling for him," Aya said, furthering the story. "His parents are at the house right now. Kana is entertaining them," the girl explained. "Put down three orders of Candy, Yuu-kun" Aya asked the boy before she flashed another smile at Tako. "Thanks again for taking care of Kawaii and Kadar! I'll make you an extra batch for your kindness!" Aya said before she started walking away. "Say hi to Taji for me!" the girl asked as they continued through the village. "We're going to talk to Vikka now. You'll like her, Yuu. She's a really sweet woman and helped us when we first came to Mugendai," Aya explained to the boy as they continued their walk. "Are you tallying which ingredients we need too?" she asked before walking into the Inn that Vikka owned.

Another soft smile to Tako again, as Aya pulled his small frame into a gentle embrace. The hug really did make the two seem very much like siblings and it was easy for the child to hold the proper expression for that moment, because it really was honestly his feelings rather than the elaborate, strange story that he was following up well yet not quite wholly understanding...

Yuu seemed a bit surprised that Tako ordered candy rather than medicine as Hu-chichi-ue had expected, but he did not let the momentary surprise perturb duty... Aya's cue surprised him too...didn't Tako want two...? And then it made sense, with her next words. He wrote down 'Tako-san - Candy - x2 orders + x1 batch as gift' on a clean sheet of parchment. It was a bit odd using these strange quills with this thin ink cartridge embedded inside...the quality of the strokes that comes down in comparison to using a real brush and grounded powder mixed with water to obtain fine ink was noticeably greatly different. But the child managed and his handwriting was still neatly pretty as ever.

He nodded again, to Aya's question. He was keeping meticulously careful track of everything. Surprisingly, it wasn't that difficult...then again normal did not define Yuurin very well. What other child would find reading the incredibly boring novels demanded for the Civil Service Exam during his leisure time interesting...? And following them up well too... So attention-wise, he paid great detail to everything being done...

Vikka-san, huh... He briefly wondered where they would...

Ah...an inn...?

So Vikka-san either owns or works at the inn.

"Ok," Aya said as Yuu gave her a nod that he was following along as well and writing down all the ingredients. Opening the door to the inn, Aya walked in with a big smile which seemed to be stuck on her face. The girl was always flashing her pearly whites which really made her a people person. "Vikka-chan!" Aya called out cutely as she went up to the counter and leaned over it to try and spy into the back to see if Vikka was there. Her blue eyes didn't spot her at all. "She must be outside cleaning," Aya said with a smile as she walked through the corridors to the back door where sure enough, Vikka was cleaning sheets. "Ne, ne! Vikka-chan!" Aya said with a big smile as she ran up to hug her closest friend here in Sundai. "I missed you!" Aya chirped as she embraced the older woman in a hug. Vikka wasn't that much older, but she was nearing her mid-20's. As the embrace ended, Aya wanted to tell Vikka about all her adventures and what truly happened in the Earth Country, but she had to bite her tongue and withstand the urge. Instead, she turned to Yuu, focusing on him. "This is Yuu-kun! He's going to be staying with Kana, Kazuma and I. He's going to be my little understudy," Aya said with a cute shrug of her shoulders. She then tilted her head to Vikka, trying to get Yuu to ask her himself if she had any type of orders for them.

It was a beautiful white now after the latest travelers had come through and got dirt stains on it. As she turned to hang the linen on the line, she heard a chipper voice. "Aya-chan," Vikka said in surprise, thinking that she would have been gone longer. "I missed you too!" the woman said as she hugged her friend. "Oh, Its a pleasure to meet you, Yuu-san," Vikka said politely as she dried her hand on her apron and extended it to Yuu for a handshake. Vikka's hands were rather frail looking, but they were warm to the touch.

But there was no one in there...so at Aya's suggestion, he followed the kunoichi outside...and sure enough, there was a red-haired woman washing linen in a wooden basin and hanging up the cleaned sheets. He noticed she had blue eyes as well, but not as clearly blue as Aya-nee, more like the dark blue of the seas... Yuu was about to start with a formal bow but caught his mistake before it happened...and reminded himself again to accustom to the honorifics of the people... "Ohayou, Vikka-san." He greeted, with a small smile, and - though with the slightest almost instinctive hesitation if one peered carefully - took her hand. At least he didn't hesitate at the unfamiliar honorific this time...

Warm...

"Vikka-san...would..." Asked the quiet child, politely...though simple out of being unaccustomed to speaking so much within a single hour...his soft voice trailed off to languorous inflections... But Aya wanted him to practice, clearly...so...gathering up his nerve to finish his question... "...would you like anything...?" It was said a little quickly but...

It was said, after all.

User Image Vikka couldn't get over just how adorable this young boy was! She was so entranced that she almost missed the boy speaking. "O-oh! Yes, we need a few things actually," Vikka said with a weak smile. "Yusuf burnt himself while trying melt some iron into nails the other day. He has many burns on his legs and arms, not to mention his hands. And Jiji-san has a terrible cough... If there were any herbal teas or medicine you could make that would be wonderful," Vikka requested as her tone turned a little worried towards the illness and the accident that had happened in Aya's absence. Vikka forced a smile though and looked up at her friend. "Also, some candies! Those last travelers that came through ate them all up," she said with a smile.

"No problem!" Aya said with a grin on her face. "We have to get back home before dark, but we'll come visit soon and stay in the village for a night or so," the kunoichi explained to Vikka. "Take care! And I'll stop by tomorrow," Aya promised as she headed towards the door. As they walked away from the woman who was cleaning her sheets, Aya furrowed her brows for a moment. It was unfair that she had to put up with this fake disguise. If it were alright for her to say out in the open who she was, then she would be able to heal Yusuf's wounds, so he would not have to go through so much pain. She would also be able to make sure Grandpa Gohan was alright. As she noticed that she had a stern look on her face, Aya forced a smile and stopped to speak with Yuu. "Yuu-kun... You know its nice to lie to people, but if Vikka and Tako knew who we really were it would cause them trouble," Aya explained briefly to the little boy who had probably been brought up on honor, nobility and many other courteous traditions. Now with the Samurai on a war path, if rumor spread that there were shinobi in Mugendai Valley, Sundai would be annihilated.

Once they were close to Kadar, Aya peeked at the sheet that Yuu had. "We'll make 3 canisters of Burn Gel for Yusuf and 3 more bags of candy for Vikka. We have a lot of gathering to do!" Aya said optimistically. "I also thinks its good to make a cough syrup for Gohan-sama..." Aya said lightly, knowing that the old man was nearing the end of his years and it may be the last time he gets sick. "We'll get the plants we need first! We'll need 15 Aloe Vera plants and 18 Honey Sickles," Aya mumbled to herself. "I have 6 Aloe Vera plants at the base, so we just need 9 more," Aya said carefully as she grabbed Kadar by the reigns and began leading them out of Sundai Village. "Alright, Yuu!" Aya said as she bent down a picked up a purple flower. "This here is a honey suckle. You can eat them by plucking out thsoe purple petals and sucking on the ends, or we can use them for a sweet candies," Aya said as she put the flower in a bag that was slung over Kadar's back.

"And then..." Aya trailed off as her blue eyes scanned the tall green grass carefully. The Aloe Vera plants were a little hard to spot in the green fields. "Aha! This is Aloe Vera," Aya explained as she stood over the plant and then knelt down next to it in the dirt. "You can to be very careful when pulling it out of the ground, ok? If we lose the roots, the plant will die and the juices we need inside the leaves will turn sour," Aya explained as she lifted the plant out of the ground and placed it carefully in the pack with the honey suckle. "You wanna pick honey suckles or aloe vera while we walk home?" Aya asked Yuu, letting him choose which one he'd like to pick.

Theme Song: Peaceful Theme

The child took out his quill and parchment and began writing away. "Mnhm..." He said softly as he wrote 'Vikka-san, for Yusuf-san - burn medicine' and also wrote in the line below, aligning perfect with 'for Yusuf-san' in the previous line but wrote 'for Vikka-san's jiji-san - herbal tea or cough medicine'. And then pausing a little, he wrote the final request 'for travelers to inn - candy'. But since Vikka never specified how much she wanted of those, Yuurin left the spaces blank, and entrusted that decision to Aya, who would know how much medicine to prescribe or how many visitors came to the inn...

But it made him feel sad...to deceive such a nice lady... His face was kept composed but it must've shown in his eyes, because Aya-nee talked to him again when they had left the inn for Kadar... "I know." He whispered and he smiled at her...though his smile was sad. "Aya-nee has a beautiful smile." But his real meaning was clear. If Aya had not wanted to smile, then she should not force it...

Something about this child...there definitely was much more to him besides the pretty doll-like boy whom San had held close as if he really was indeed her own child... He seemed so fragile...a breakable child...yet...even at that display back at the palace...he held great consideration for others... It was almost a bit tragic that it seemed he would be doomed very early on to sacrificing for others, until there was nothing left to give... And as of now, even though it made him upset...he understood the reasons as to why they had to lie to these kind villagers of Sundai...how could he not? After seeing what happened in the tournament...?

A memory...

...the bandits who attacked his native village...

Certainly, while Aya-nee may be able to heal Yusuf-han...but then...if those samurais come... His heartbeat almost stilled for a moment even at the mere thought of that frightful possibility... He did not want either Tako-han or Vikka-han to be hurt...

"Aya-nee...?" Asked the boy, his usual quiet voice oddly clear against the soft hum of the breeze, as he lifted up his gaze to meet her eyes. "Why does..." His voice trailed off, and he looked away. But the question died on his lips. Why...? He had wanted to ask. Why don't samurai get along with shinobi...? Why hurt each other? Both sides possess power...why can't that power be used to help people like Tako-han and Vikka-han...?

Why is that power being used for destruction...? There had been civilians at the tournament too... Why... Even then...even the shinobis...they were all human too... Why would samurai use their power to hurt people...? So many things...so many things he still didn't understand.

But he decided to divert the conversation to something else. "Ano...Vikka-han...didn't say how much..." How much? Ah, he must be referring to the quantity...unlike Tako-han, Vikka had not specified how much she would need. But there was no need for a reminder, as Aya drew closer to look at the sheet as well and decided on specific numbers. He nodded, glad that she was back to her cheerful self...

...and what if that's not true...? Said a voice in his mind.

Cold...

A cold tone, reproaching him for being too childish.

Yuu shook his head, willing the voice away. "Mn." Agreed the boy, with a small nod. They do have a lot of work to do. But while the child might have insisted to spend a lot of time in Huwei-sama's ward, he was not used to the process of gathering and harvesting herbs and raw medicinal plants. Suddenly filled with eagerness again, he listened to every word Aya proclaimed, and observed the purple flower with great awe... The childish part of him want to try out the first-half of Aya's statement...

Uwah. Natural candies. Thought the boy, happily. But then he shook his head. No no! He musn't think about eating them...they were for a good cause...for Tako-han and Vikka-han's candies... Aya proceeded to showing him aloe vera...ah! He knows those, Huwei-sama has a pet aloe vera in a pot somewhere in the grove...but Huwei-sama is a scientist so the gardener takes care of the plant - who he (Yuu) had kindly named 'Cloey' and volunteered to help water Cloey every once a while. But this one time, he watered too much, and one of the thick leaves wilted. Good thing that after he fed it some of his...his...ehm...the...well...what San said plants feed from him... Anyways, it was healthy again, and all was well...so Huwei-sama never discovered the damage to his Cloey...

A sweatdrop seemed to hang above Yuu's head, remembering the small crime he had committed and wronging Cloey...b-but! Cloey looked like she needed more water (which turns out she didn't...)! At least they grow so much better here... Said the boy consolingly to himself. Really. No one could beat Mother Nature herself when it came down to gardening... Though he wasn't sure he wanted to approach another aloe vera any sooner...

"...ano..." Said the child, hesitantly...but the longing gaze at a singular purple flower told Aya of his answer.

Honeysuckle it was, then.

Aya tilted her head as Yuu stated that he understood why they were doing such things. When he smiled at her, she knew that he didn't like doing this which was a first great lesson as a shinobi. You have to do things you feel are wrong in order to protect those closest to you. A memory of the look on Kana's face when Aya slit a soldier's throat flashed in her mind. She had been brutal and uncaring, but it was one less enemy to concern themselves with they had been outnumbered from the beginning. Smiling back at Yuu, Aya poked his nose. "You have a beautiful smile too," she said as they continued on. "Eh?" Aya asked as Yuu started a sentence but trailed off. She could tell on his face that he was coming to terms about something, but she had assumed that something was lying to Vikka and Tako, not anything else. With a smile on her face, Aya watched Yuu pick up a purple honey suckle. "That one is perfect!" Aya praised Yuu for his first find.

As they walked along quietly, the beautiful sound of the leaves billowing in the light breeze made a gentle sound as the prairire birds chirped playful light tunes. With Kadar's steady trot, all the sounds seem to come together in a beautiful song. Bending down to pick extract another aloe vera plant, Aya really enjoyed the sound of the tall grass swaying and the musical birds with the silence of Kadar's hoofs. Sundai Village always had this type of tune to it. Every time Aya made the walk to or from the village, it was relaxing and enjoyable. "Ne, ne, Yuu-kun. Do you know any songs?" Aya asked, wondering if the child new any sweet lullabies to go with the natural sounds of the earth.

Theme Song: Peaceful Theme

It was a bit embarrassing to hear that his smile was beautiful...but despite himself, he smiled again, this time not one filled with sadness but a bright, brilliant smile, the warm sunlight lit aglow golden fire in darkly emerald eyes, the smoothly warming glow gently bathing the sides of a porcelain face. The child almost looked as if he was part of the Mother Goddess (nature) herself, with eyes both like the forest and brilliant morning star (the sun), hair as dark as the blackness of night...but pale, porcelain skin, that went sharply against such dark locks of hair, yet went well for him, the barest hint of rose tinging the cheeks and lips... Yuurin partly closed his eyes, heavily lidded they were now, making the specks of gold harder to see but bringing out more the rich dark green, a half-smile, half-laugh gently curving his lips...

He didn't know, eve now he was a pretty child, but years from now, he would certainly quite turn the heads of women, when the smooth round face becomes more sharply angular and handsome with age. But for now, a doll-like, fragile boy, happily picked flowers with the older kunoichi in this meadow of flowers... And as for the flower he found...?

"Yeah..." Agreed the boy, partly in awe, seeming as if to find beauty in everything but himself as he picked the flower, gingerly separating the emerald stalk from the rest, admiring as the light from the sun pooled golden warmth at the tips of the petals... Approaching Kadar, he too placed the flower into the sack around the horse's neck. Aya's question surprised him and emerald orbs widened slightly.

"I...well..." He started slowly, almost thoughtfully. "Truthfully...I don't remember much...of when I was little...but...there is this one song..." His glance cast up to Aya, and a strong hope seemed to burn in his gaze. "Would..." His voice trailed off. "Would Aya-nee like to hear...?"

As Kadar's feet trotted on the path once again, she awaited Yuu's answer and gave him a soft smile when he asked if she would like to hear. "Of course!" Aya said honestly. She hadn't heard many lullabies, only silly songs of sailors and theme songs to comics. The girl was sure that her mother had sang some sort of lullaby when she was younger, but there was no recollection of it. When Aya was Yuu's age, she wasn't very perceptive and had a bad attention span. Once she was a child that couldn't focus on something as entertaining as a clown juggling, but now she was able to sit in wait and focus on a single thing for hours on end. She stopped to pick up another aloe vera plant, waiting to hear Yuu's soft voice sing. She was sure that he had a gentle and soft voice to sing with.

Theme Song: Ming Requiem Lullaby

((Sorry that Lulu has to click... U_U But that was the only version I could find... Youtube killed the one someone posted a few days earlier...since the Anime haven't played it yet, they couldn't post it... >_>'' But it's a very pretty song. =]))

It certainly wasn't a sailor's silly song that left the child's lips.

Cherubic lips gently parted slightly, as sweet notes left them... He started with a soft hum, even as he knelt in the grass, pressing them apart to search for the elusive royal-robed flowers... Soft notes...melodic notes...but filled with such sorrow...they filled the air...

"hoshi ni, yuki ni, kioku ni...kimi no ashiato sagasu...douka, towa no yasuragi - koko ha yume no tochuu de..."

Through the stars, through the snow, through the memories...
(You) search for your footprints...
Somehow in this tranquil eternity -
this place is in the midst of dreams...

A lullaby? There was a gentle lilt to the song, making it seem even like a dance...and the music was dancing, the notes in a frozen eternal waltz... The song itself...the melody... It was almost cold, like the snow it sung of... It spoke of the mountains, the frozen snow-capped ones that overlooked the landscape...of a forgotten people who had lived in her arms...

"osanai...tsubasade...sakamichi kaketeku...michi kara, hagurete...kono me wo tojiteku..."

You run up the slope with your fledgling wings...
Straying from the path with these sealed eyes...

So strangely beautiful, the song was...sung by a child with a quiet, ethereal voice...even if the music did not make much sense to one who did not know of the origins of this requiem lullaby - for yes, it was not for the living - it was a song for the Dead - no...a song for the ones who had crossed to the next world, yet strong feelings keeps them in an eternal waltz with those who remained behind... He repeated the first phrase, giving again the sense of a journey...and the small steps one takes in it...

"itsuka, subete, modorite...sora no hate hitorikiri...anata ga matsu yasuragi - hikari no ato nokoshite..."

Someday everything will return to what it was...
The one place at the top of the sky...
...is peacefully waiting for you -
trusting the future after the light in good hands...

He repeated the second phrase, of the wandering...a young bird learning to take its first steps away from the figure called 'mother'... Of closed eyes, forgotten wisdom...yet all the same most wise, that beloved child...

"yume ni, ai ni, kokoro ni...kimi no ashiato sa-gasu...towa no hikari nokoshite - furugi no nai tsubasa de..."

Through dreams through love through the heart...
(You) search for your footprints...
Leaving behind the eternal light -
on steady wings...

The soul of the departed is comforted now. *Her fledgling will live on...even with a heavy heart...even if she is forgotten... The last words of the melody came almost as if in a soft whisper, from the departed soul...whispering to her beloved child...

"towa no ai wo anata ni..."

To you, eternal love will…

Tears rolled down the child's face...

Huh...?

Why... His hand brushed lightly against the stalk of another of those purple-garbed flower...

That song...

...that lullaby...why did it remind him of forgotten things...?

[Just need to search the title again Ghost Cover Song ]

Aya didn't watch Yuu at first as he began to sing his song, because she knew that since he was a shy child, he wouldn't like the pressure. The Kunoichi's eyes drifted to the sea of grass waving in the breeze. As the quiet lullaby left Yuu's tongue and traveled into the air, it seemed as if the grass danced to the light melody his words carried. Crouching down near another green stemmed plant, Aya carefully pulled it from the ground as Yuu continued to sing. What a precious lullaby... If Aya were ever to lose Kana... If Kana was ever lying with his last breath in her arms... A soft yet sad smile turned Aya's lips as she completely pulled the aloe plant from the ground. She didn't want to think about such sad things. Putting the plant in the bag, Aya turned to Yuu now since he seemed comfortable with the song now. Then she noticed that a tear was rolling down his cheek. Aya had learned from her mother not to coddle a child who was becoming a shinobi, but to treat them more like an adult. "Yuu-kun, where do you know that song from?" Aya asked, wondering if the boy needed to talk about something that he never had spoken of. She had learned that San had been there for what sounded like all his life. The Empress was a woman that nearly replaced what most would have as a mother, a teacher and an role model.

Theme Song: Ming Requiem Lullaby

"My okaa-san. She sung it to me...but only once." Replied the child. Only once? Then this child either had a remarkable memory...or... "I don't remember much...but the village I was born in snowed often." His quiet voice trailed off, as he rubbed at the corners of his eyes...trying to stop the tears from coming. "Bandits attacked. They burned it down..."

Pale, slim fingers reached forward, brushing aside blades of leafy green, as they pushed the grass aside, in search for the flower he wanted. A soft pause ensued, only the child's quiet breathing heard...even the passing zephyr seemed to still, holding *his breath to listen to the boy... "I was the only one who survived. I..." His voice trailed off. "I only remember bare fragments of my second and third springs...but what didn't disappear...was that song..."

But...to think...that lullaby...

"There's many things I still don't understand..." He whispered. Like...why... Why did that song seem like his mother had expected her death...? "I didn't come to live with Yochi-jotei until three years ago." But three years ago...? The child could be no more than ten or eleven...that would mean he was in the Empress San's care since he was around seven or eight. But if the boy's word was to be taken for granted - then of the years after his third spring - what of those four or five years...?

"Traveling priests from the Earth Country came upon the ruins of the village." A pause, as he snapped a flower's stem cleanly. "The onmyōji priest Fukushima took me in..." He lifted the flower close to his cheek, gently, barely brushing the fringes of the darkly violet petals to pale skin...with his eyes half-closed, there was a certain haunting quality of such a scene...

That priest...

What that priest didn't understand, at the time...

...that he had taken in a demon child...

Aya listened to Yuu speak. Wasn't the boy only 10 years old? When Aya began the academy, she was just as young as he, but her attitude was much more immature. The Tenmoki girl had not been worrying about villages being burnt down, children losing their parents or tattered starving people living in ruins of what once was their home. Only now did Aya think of these things and want to protect things like that from happening to anyone. Taking her time to pull a plant from the ground, Aya's face went stern as she thought of the rotten people that lived in this world. As she stood up, she had a smile on her face despite the sad story she was being told. "Ne, ne~ At least you have that story to remember your mother by. I'm sure protected you during that attack and she was thinking of that song, knowing that you were safe. Your mother was a very good woman and I bet she was a lot like San, thinking of keeping you safe," Aya concluded as she referred to San's action of bringing Yuu here to Mugendai where he would be safe from any Samurai attacks. "Its what any good mother would do," Aya said a little softer as she kept a soft smile on her face. "That much you can understand," Aya said, hoping to fill a gap that made Yuu believe he didn't understand many things that have happened to him.

Aya's mother was still alive and healthy living in Shimagakure, so one would think that she wouldn't understand such a loss. However, many students in the academy at Shimagakure were without parents. Hanabira, a student that Aya had come to love was one amongst them. And even her good friend Maya had lost her parents in the same way that Yuu was describing his loss. Yuu was lucky to have San as a guardian. Hanabira was lucky to have the Yamanakas as care takers, but Maya had been unlucky in receiving her aunt as a guardian. Maya had grown up on her own practicalities. For that, the Tenmoki admired her Tategami friend and never looked down on her. Knowing that Maya didn't have a mother to teach her how to read or write, made Aya smile at the hardwork she had accomplished in order to give her the charts to help Kana.
