Melanie walked out of her room, finally dressed up for the New Year. She walked down the halls of the ship, listening to the sounds of the people getting closer as she entered one of the main rooms. She saw people talking, people dancing, a nice band playing. Very festive. This was a good way to get her mind off of the fact that she had arrived here by stealing alot of her parents money, it started bugging her a bit so she went and grabbed some wine off of one of the bars before anyone caught her, and she walked off.

Jorda25  James started to look over the food, getting a small plate and picking out a few things to eat. He had to mentally remind himself to stay away from anything that would make his breath smell too bad, even if he did bring some mint gum just in case. He looked around the crowd and gave a nod to Beren, "Hey, are you an artist or something?" he walked closer as he popped a small sandwich into his mouth and chewed it quietly. He smiles and nods. "I do a bit of sketching now and then. My dad was the artists." He bows his head for a moment before picking up a glass of champagne and taking a sip.

James nodded and smiled, "Oh cool, my dad's an accountant, well, a CEO for an accounting firm, all pretty boring stuff. He wants me to follow in his footsteps too, though crunching numbers for companies doesn't seem like as much fun as drawing. I'm James by the way."He smiled and offered a hand, of the few friends he had made in his high school life a number of them had been artists, usually because they were at least a little different than the more 'mainstream' kids, so he hoped this guy would be as open minded as they were and at least not be a snob.

Rider listined as the band finsihed playing the song they were playing and te only sound was that of the chattering people. Of course no one noticed the music stop. Rider looked around. the band also seemed to go to the food table to have a break so he quietly sat at the old piano. Some of the band members noticed and stood to see if he would play.

Melanie walked back into the room where the music was coming from. She noticed someone else was playing the piano now, it sounded beautiful. She stood, staring, watching his hands move easily over the keys. Taking another sip of her wine, she looked away and around the room, not seeing the whole ship yet since she spent most of her time in her room since departing from the docks. Everything was so elegant to her, she wasn't used to it, she didn't belong.

James noticed Melanie as soon as she walked in, if not only for her beauty but also that nervous look of someone who feels out of place. He knew that feeling all too well, and with a deep breath he a bit more courage than he thought he could muster he walked over to the girl and smiled. "Umm, hiya, I'm James. Nice party huh? I don't come to these sorts of things very often, so I feel a little out place, but everyone here seems pretty cool." He gave her another smile and thought about asking her if she wanted some punch, then noticed the drink in her hand, "Oh, you drink wine? What kind is it? I don't drink it...much myself, but my dad has about a million magazines all about wine and vineyards and that sort of stuff."

Melanie noticed the man who walked up to her, she didn't understand why he was talking to her but she listend. She looked down at her wine glass when he motioned to it. "Um, I don't know what kind it is..." she paused for a second "I just kind of...took it." Melanie looked back up at him again and smiled lightly. "I'm Melanie by the way."

Rider shrugged and began to play any old tune. It was a clssical, but very easy to dance to, perfect for this event. He smiled and closed his eyes memorising the notes. his fingers glided with ease over the keys as he played.

Tryed accounting fora while..didnt care for it much. "If you dont like something dont do it" is a favorite saying of mine. Im Beren." He taked the hand in his and gives a firm hand shake. As a new piece of music starts to play he looks up and smiles likeing the classical pieces the most. He flipped to a blank page and started to draw the musician at the piano with his eyes closed. He did his best to capture the sole of the artist on the stage.

James smiled back to Melanie and shook her hand slowly, "It's a pleasure to meet you Melanie, I just thought I'd come over and say hi, I didn't really come here with anyone so I'm just trying to mingle, ya know. So, what brings you to the party?"

Rider enjoyed playing very much. With his eyes shut he forgot the world and played to the full of his capability. HE enjoyed playing the classical pecies and made sure they they all had some kind of dance like rythme for the party.

Melanie nodded at him "I'm just..." she paused for a minute, not wanting to tell him she ran away from home and that was the real reason why she was here. "On vacation." she simply left it at that. She looked around the room at the others, the music growing more beautiful. Melanie looked over at the man playing the piano; it seemed like he wasn't using any music. Wow she thought.

Rider finsihed the peice and got up sitting back down in the corner alone. He closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair humming to himself.

Melanie bit her lip alittle bit, looking over the boys shoulder "Ugh, my mom must be looking for me, I forgot to tell her I left the room and she doesn't have a key. Excuse me." She gave him an apologetic smile and walked past him. Melanie walked walked up the staircase, through the hall to her room and waited there for a few minutes. Then after about fifteen minutes she walked back down stairs, weaving through the people trying to find the boy who played the piano. She loved his music and she was hoping he was still there; she looked around alittle longer finally spotting him in the corner. Melanie slowly made her way over to one of the chairs and sat next to him. "You did really good on the piano, it was beautiful."

Rider opened his eyes and smiled at the girl. "Why thank you. It's just something i learned through bordem." He said. Rider set the chair down on all frou legs so he wouldnt make a fool of himself by falling over. "My name is Rider, Rider Coda." He said holding out a hand.
