Time. Stopped.
Color faded.
Sound ceased.
Everything around the group became a swirling gray void and none of them could move or speak.
"THAT IS ENOUGH." It wasn't a single voice that spoke but a chorus of many voices. It was beautiful and eerie at once. "You were not brought to this place to fight each other. You have a mission to complete for our purposes. Pawns do not fight amongst themselves.
The pieces are gathered so you must now travel to the Nur'Dharkin Mountains. A test awaits you among their shadowy hills. Do not delay.
Our messenger will await you there."
The swirling gray faded back into day. Sound, color and life returned to the world. The cat was standing several feet from Zen while Angela and the red haired woman were now some five yards from one another. The others were standing in a confused half circle off to one side.
And with the appearance of gray swirlies and disembodied voices, the day had just gotten that much weirder.
*******
Angela blinked. "Did...they just call us pawns!?"

Sin blinked. They, whoever they were, did not just... ...They. Did. Not.
She calmly smiled, and raised a middle finger to the sky.
"Alright, ********. Bring me to the ******** b***h so I can rip their happy ******** innards out. Pawn. My. ********. a**."
She didn't like being deprived of a victim, she did not like being stopped, and she did not like being used...no, she would never be used ever again. To be used, and thrown away, nothing left but an apple core....
Gypsum sweatdropped. Calamity avoided, for the moment, and now a whole new one to worry about. He noted the nasty glint in her eyes, and flinched as he noticed the white of her eyes starting to turn black.
"Sin...don't." She snapped out of it, eyes returning to their normal color, and she twisted her neck with a loud crack to glare at him. But he knew it was without any true heat, as did she.
There was a piteous squeaking noise that broke the silence, and Sin rolled her eyes. The white fluff thing with a single white feather for a tail had been transported near the feet of the cat, and was chirping and squirming. Its beady rose and sepia eyes peered around curiously as it clicked its tiny beak squeakily.

Cheeva badly wanted to kill something. Maybe that would make things make sense. One moment she was taking out a target on Rye's orders (galling as that had been) the next she had fallen through the air, been crushed, strangled then magically transported a couple feet away from her attackers. She tapped a tattoo on the hilt of a knife at her waist, eye darting down to take in the chirping fluff-ball at her feet before focusing on the small knot of "people". Cheeva could feel sparks dancing over her neck, closing off the puncture marks, left by the red-haired woman. She could almost taste the magic on the air. These people were powerful. Very powerful. More so than she. She would have to play this carefully, though every fibre of her being was demanding a quick round of "who should I stab first?"
"Who are you?" she demanded, half drawing a knife. "And what the hell is going on?"

Watching Sin, Angela immediately decided she was not going to react in the same way. There was no way in hell she was going to act in any way reminiscent of that woman. (She was also vaguely glad that black haired man seemed to have some measure of control over her actions.)
Instead of cursing at the sky (which she very much wanted to do), she glanced down at her hands, flexing them slowly. Her skin was reddened and the bones from her fingertips to her shoulders ached thanks to the rebound from repelling those magic flames for the split second before...whatever the hell that was that had just happened.
When the cat spoke, she glanced up calmly. "Sorry but you know as much as any of us now. Didn't you hear? Someone brought us here to be 'pawns'." Finding sudden amusement in the entire situation she laughed. This whole thing was utterly ridiculous. "Of course, if they expect us to just follow directions like good little pawns..." She grinned a little mischievously. "I vote we make our way to the forest over there."

Inutai watched things play curiously, much like a kid in a candy store. He did so love seeing people fight. It was fascinating, really. He'd never seen anything like these people. But when voices came from the sky, saying they should head towards some kind of mountains, Inutai glanced around and found the only ones near them. He eyed them for a few moments, but couldn't help be overhear Angela telling them to go towards the forest in the opposite direction.
He wasn't sure what he should do in this type of situation, or even, what was going on here, but it seemed to him the others didn't take particularly well to it. Of course, Inutai knew Toshi wouldn't mind. Seeing as he was getting to experience new things, he himself didn't mind either. But practically everyone else, not so much.
"I don't really care what you decide to do," Inutai suddenly said to the group. "But, I'm going that way." He pointed towards the mountains and left in that direction, tugging Toshi after him. "You can follow if you like, but it isn't necessary. Just do what you wish." The way he just sounded seemed a tad bit. . . commanding, controlling even, even though he told them to do what they wanted. Without so much as looking back, Inutai, as well as Toshi, continued to head towards the mountains.

Inutai and Toshi walked about ten feet when Inutai suddenty set his foot on solid ground that wasn't solid ground. It looked the ground everywhere else only the moment his foot touched it and he shifted all his weight to that leg, the ground gave way and he began to very rapidly sink into the very soft sand.
He was waist deep in a matter of seconds.
[team work is a good thing and I have a feeling that to prove this point, this world is about to get a whole lot more...interesting for you guys] XD

Inutai cried out when the ground beneath his feet suddenly, practically, engulfed him up to his waist. He struggled, but that didn't seem to help at all. In fact, that only seemed to make it worse. He suddenly started crying and sniffling. "I'll be a good boy! I promise! Just let me out!" he whined, as Toshi couldn't seem to pull him out on his own. He'd only wanted to do whatever those voices said to do, so why was he being punished for it? He didn't really understand it.

[I'm just going to post because no one else is active right now and I feel sorry for Inu. And I'm the one who made him fall in in the first place!] gonk
Stupid!
Angela rushed after Inutai and Toshi when she saw that Inutai had stepped into some kind of hidden sink hole. Together, with Toshi, they were able to pull him free. He crouched near the hole, eyes wide and fearful.
Angela's angry glare softened as she stroked the boy's arm comfortingly. "It's not safe to just walk off on your own, Inutai," she said. "None of us knows anything about this world or the dangers that may lurk in it. We're stronger as group. But being in a group means that everyone makes decisions together.
We don't know whether or not the people who brought us here are good or evil but they called us 'pawns'--that means they're using for their own ends and may not have our best interest in mind. We all need to be really careful and try not to do anything too rash, okay?"

((He most definitely didn't like that. DX))
Inutai glanced up at Angela and sniffled slightly. "O-okay. . ." He glanced down towards the ground, ears drooping and tail between his legs. "I-I'll behave, I promise."
Toshi sighed, but ruffled Inutai's hair slightly. "Thanks for the help. I'm afraid he can be a bit overzealous at times, which is almost never a good thing for either one of us."

Cheeva quickly scooped the tiny fluff-ball creature off the ground and glanced at the earth beneath her feet. There was no way to discern which ground would give away and which would not. She stood very, very still.
"Free will," she said, slowly, as the fluff-ball squirmed from her hand and perched on her shoulder. "This is all a case of free will. These...voices, fae, gods...whatever they maybe, are tricksters. They tell us to go one way and yet set a trap for us if we do. My mother delights in such games," Cheeva snorted and crosse dher arms. "So there is only one explanation - these voices want us to do this ourselves. No guidance, no direction. We make the choices as a ..." she choked the word out. "Group."
Cheeva shut her eye and took a careful step forward. The ground seemed firm enough. She looked at the white-haired woman, the one she had fallen on, who crouched by the young boy the earth had just attempted to devour.
"You. Midget. Explain to me who you all are. Now."

Sin glared at the little fluffy as it shimmied up Cheeva's arm and onto her shoulder and made an odd purring sound as it cuddled up to the nape of her neck. Its feather wagged happily as it brushed by her neck.
"Traitor," she mumbled under her breath, and made a hissing sort of sigh as she turned to the others.
"I'd prefer going on my own, but I don't mind having a few guinea pigs going ahead of me to make our little trip a little quicker...Or a few more, anyway." She glanced at the obsidian-haired man with a smirk.
"Oh, you wound me so." He clutched his chest dramatically as he deadpanned the line then rolled his single visible silver eye as he slumped into his normal relaxed pose.
"But yes...'guinea pig' or no, we'd better stick together. I'm Gypsum, or Gyp if you like. That PMSing...ah...lady over there..." he hesitated, but Sin interrupted him anyway.
She inclined her head, with a mocking little curtsy flourish at the group.
"Sin, if you would please. Not my true name...but as I was born of sin, have returned to sin, and will end in sin as well, it is most fitting." Her eyes glittered darkly as she smiled chillingly. The fluff made a tiny harrumph kind of huffing noise from Cheeva's shoulder.
"...And.. that's all you really need to know, anyway. For now," he added, eying the fluff uneasily, "Since we'll learn more about each other along the way, I'm sure," Gypsum ended lamely with a little shrug.
"How about the rest of you?"

"Not the goddamn parrots again..." Zen mumbled, meaning the creepy voices who were seemingly very stupid and had no idea what they had just done. Usual things like them talked like parrots, making little sense and repeating themselves over and over and finishing eachother's sentences. Even if these parrots were new to him, they were all the same mostly.
He still thought to himself, and rubbing his cat bite while the others were fussing around him. He did snicker when the cat talked so politely to Angela, "you midget... explain!" was a great way to put it delicately.
The mountains had been what he would have picked to go adventure in, and he hoped to find a spring somewhere to wash his wrist off in.

Midget? MIDGET!? Did that damn one eyed cat girl just call her a midget? Angela stood, slowly flexing fists. She reeeeeally needed something to blow up just now. "Look, Fleabag," she said through clenched teeth. Urg. No. Bad. Fighting amongst themselves was only going to waste time. She rubbed her forehead, feeling pain slowly begin to radiate behind her eyes. "No. Okay. Look." She glared at the catgirl. "You heard the voices as we all did so you know exactly as much as the rest of us. Gypsum and..Sin, introduced themselves but you missed the rest of our names. I'm Angela. This is Inutai and Toshi and that is Zen."
She sighed, furrowing her brow in annoyance. "I'm not much for following the directions of idiotic voices from the sky but if there really is a messenger in those mountains, it's probably the fastest avenue for finding answers." She glanced at Inutai. "I think it's pretty clear we're going to have to be careful. Or at least find a bloody road to travel on. Is everyone in agreement for heading to the mountains then?"

Inutai pulled himself from the ground and practically attached himself to one of Toshi's arms. As he did this, the chains connecting the two rattled slightly, it wrapping around one his legs, causing him to trip as he moved. "Mou ii!" Inutai cried, untangling his leg. He pouted slightly. This day was only getting worse. He stood back up and brushed himself off and just buried himself in Toshi's shirt, mildly annoyed.
Sighing, Toshi placed a hand on the young one's shoulder. "Take that as a yes from both of us."
