He leaned forward and allowed her to touch him. Cute? Furry I can see, but cute is something I would never use to describe myself. Eric yawned lazily, showing the sharp teeth in his mouth.

She smiled softly at him as she tousled his fur, then just rested her hand there. "Cute. See, theres two kinds of males. the cute ones that walk about on four legs or fly on wings, and the 'soon to be dead' kind that walk around on two legs and are quite horrible."

The males are surely not all evil. There are several who live on the woods edge who are kindly to me.

She sat up and narrowed her eyes at him in her fiercest glare. "Do. Not. Even. THINK of trying to protect me against them. I won't have it, I wont stand for it, you hear me?" she asked in her most dangerous and warning of tones. "I won't allow it. Not again."

Not again? Eric took a deep breath and suppressed another growl. Who has hurt you? I would hunt them down and bring you their hearts. His eyes narrowed and took on a cold, lethal appearance befitting an animal as deadly as him.

"I said I wont allow it. And if you try I.... I shall never come here again." And it wasn't a threat. She wouldn't have a choice. But even more then that... she couldn't go though that. Not again.

I can promise no such thing, little one. I have been so long without purpose. Guarding and protecting you has reminded me that I have much to live for. He growled sulkily and laid down at her feet.

She shook her head. "Humans carry guns, and work in larger groups and have nasty tricks. I will not have a repeat of Leelee..." her voice caught then and she glared angerly to keep tears from forming. "I will not have them hunting these woods looking for what they will surly claim is a rabid animal!"

Eric's heart felt like it was about to break. Such pain! And so little he could do to comfort her. He stood and put his large head in her lap, nuzzling at her hands sympathetically. I do not mean to stir up bad memories, little one. Only to treat you as you deserve to be treated. Rare treasures like you should be guarded and loved for all of time.

She gave a small snort laugh but rested her hands in his fur. "And that is the first time in years anyone has..." she trailed off and shook her head, refusing to wallow in self pity. She lay back instead, putting her hands behind her like a pillow. "a few more months," she said, more to herself then anyone else.
