i would have to reccomend either d.n.a angel,elfen lied or maybe tokyo mew mew?
dna angel is good for action,elfen lied is good for gore/death/sad,and tokyo mew mew is a light comedy with some sad action too..

Steel Angel Kurumi
It's pretty hilarious once you get past the main character's obnoxious squealing, but that's part of her
charm.

Tsukiakari Masurao Right now, I would strongly recommend to you Shuffle! and AIR, along with DaCapo. ^^ shuffle is good so is the 2nd season of it but air and da capo sounds sounds like a love struck weekend that went wrong. i'm in the middle of da capo season 2 it is so cool

a new one would be lucky star, now new incoming.
air master i would recommend for action and martial arts.
ouran host club is also a good school story life...but never on reality...
pani poni dash and school rumble are a good school life story based on comedy !!

I just recently ran across an anime called Moon Phase.
Once you get past the OVERLY cute-defied opening, the anime itself is quite good. Truly, it is. Get the DVD, and watch it.

Deathnote and NANA are good. Deathnote is full of smart quirky strategies and plans while NANA is really full of maturity, or at least becimg a mature adult. I like that Nana and the other characters are older than 15 and 16 year old characters, like sailor moon. Maybe cause I'm 18 now lol.

wow no recommendations in awhile.. Well i have three at the moment, dont want to drag the page on .. All three are by Satoshi Kon ( in my opionion a genius )
Millennium Actress ~ wonderful story about a story (lol) about a girl who tries to find a man she helped and fell in love with. Not a romance anime really its more of a story of the girls life and what she did to try and find this man.
Paprika ~ A device is invented that allows people to see dreams, someone stole one and is using it to terrorize peoples dreams.i dont want say to much about this anime but Trust me it is truely amazing!! and the music ( by Hirasawa Susumu is awsome <3 )
Tokyo Godfathers ~ Three homeless people find a baby in a bunch of trash and decide to find the parents. they only have a picture to find them in all of tokyo, gets pretty interesting.
theres another by Satoshi Kon is recomment.. ( mature ) but im not sure of your guys rules on that one so ill leave it alone for now XD
