I much prefer english subs rather than dubs because until very recently the dubs were kind of emotionless. Or they over acted the voice to the point where it was annoying.
I'm really picky about my dubs so unless I know for sure I'm going to like it I stick with subs. It's just easier on my ears that way. But I will admit that the dubs are getting better. I will give them credit for that.

✿ You can feel the original emotion to it.
✿ Original translation is lost in dubs.
✿ American voice acting sucks.
But if there's only the english dub version from where I'm from,I'll be like "Oh whatever." and watch it.

I need to watch it in Japanese with Subs, unless it's Anime.
Most of my Anime's have to be English Dubbed, such as Bleach and PokeMon.
But I can watch JunJou Romantica and Vampire Knight in Japanese with Subs.

I personally like the subs but I know some people are slower readers so I like the option to have both.

I used to hate the dubs back a long time ago and only really watch anime in original with sub except for those on tv and what not but I found I love both. Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop are great examples of awesome dubbing.I loved the original Japanese but I definitely have to say the dub had more feeling in parts compared to Japanese. Lelouch seemed more crazy and evil at times in the dub...his laugh was great. If you don't usually like dubs I suggest taking a look at some of the dubs broadcast on Adult Swim you will learn to love dub a little more, I know I have. It depends though on how they do the dub voice wise and with the script. I tend to hate it if they mess around to much with the script or character's voices. Though in there defense its hard to translate into exact because if you try it comes out weird in English. Ouran High School Host Club was one of those I hate with a passion dub and beeped about it a lot when It first came out. I loved the original don't get me wrong but the dub they I felt they butchered it to death.

To me it depends on the series. Some are better subbed (like Sailor Moon for example), some are better dubbed (Ranma 1/2 for example) , some it doesn't matter, they're both equal in my eyes (like Bleach or Cowboy Bebop for example).
