maur_maur Yoru Kurosawa Doesn't really help if what someone is looking for is someone to listen to their rant. How often do people read their friends' journals? Last I checked you had to subscribe to a certain journal to know that a new post has been made. Exacty..it's not the same if your ranting to yourself. I like other people being there to read my rants. ^^ I rant for myself in the mirror! And sometimes I walk back and forth in the apartment, ranting as if there were people nearby interested in what I say. ninja Screw journals! I'm insane 'nough to have a conversation with myself!

Silent Sympathy Divine_Malevolence Silent Sympathy As of late I have nothing really to rant about, ut it seems like a good idea. Though I think the main rule should be that there will be no commenting on any rants to avoid any arguing. Then those who do argue, we just know they want to pick a fight. Half of gettin' stress off is talkin' about it. .... Or so I've found whenever I'm stressed. It'd probably be better to have some commentary, but not have it be negative. True, but there will have to be some way to enforce that. 'Cause there's bound to be someone who will break it. Enforcers there would have to be?

I can't talk to myself. Unless I'm attempting to push thoughts out of my head. As I'm paranoid enough to think that whoever I'm thinking about can read my mind. confused

Like a strike system. 1st strike gets a warning, 2nd strike gets a temp-ban from guild and 3rd is perm-banned? They maybe to to extreme, but I'm just throwing ideas out there, lol.

-x- CocoNoire -x- Divine_Malevolence If you can see them. And you're constantly looking at their journal. I edited it. If someone wants you to read their journal, they can post a link. OR, they can keep a link in their sig, and the date when they last posted. A friend of mine does that. Then what's preventing someone from reading the journal and responding to it negatively. It's exactly the same thing as posting the rant itself in public. The only difference is the URL and the amount of clicks that are required to read it.

The OP could just ignore them. No need to kick them out of the guild entirely.

The only difference is the URL and the amount of clicks that are required to read it. Negative comments can be deleted by the journal's owner, and it's not as 'in your face' reading. Repeated offenses can be reported to a moderator.
Guild posts can't be. Negative comments can also be deleted by a guild moderator. Besides, if a person finds they cannot be civil about their response (I.E. attacking someone for their rant) they need to walk away. Like what Thumper says in Bambi, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say nothing at all." Furthermore, the following apply: 1. Private rants belong in journals. 2. Rants that people want to make public can be made so, and people need to be helpful with their responses.

Rant threads are highly looked down on in every forum besides the chatterbox because of their nature to cause arguments. I think that this guild should hold the same ideals as the makers of the website.
Unless there is an explicit rule against ranting about a specific person or a group of people, I don't think it should be allowed. Even if they aren't namedropped.

Could they bring up the fact that they dislike a group or person but not give a name or any details about said group, only stating it's existence?

The entire ED/GD is designed to spark debate (a.k.a. arguments) I think we have the ability to walk away from a rant that we cannot behave civilly in, don't you? And since this is meant to be a sort of chatterbox, that would mean that certain rants belong in here, yes? If you can't be helpful in your response, you should at least be mature enough to walk away from the thread. Besides, with the proper rules in place (such as no name dropping), such a forum/thread would prove helpful to those who have something to rant about. If someone doesn't like it, such a person should avoid the thread. There is a reason I avoid the ED. I don't like someone in it, and I got tired of reading his BS. So I stay out of the ED. Likewise, you (or anyone else who doesn't like the idea) should stay out of the thread, should it be made. It's that simple.

I could see the rants in that case being worthy of having this guild deactivated. Flaming is bad, even if you don't namedrop. ..... Or any details.

Debates are generally mature conversation over a topic. Ranting is not debating. It causes hateful arguments, because generally rants are hateful in nature.
