There wasn't too much to see in the cave. Just the main entrance that widened and tightened, a few small off shoots- one of which Godfrey tried to squeeze past, hoping to find another cave, but it only lead to a dead end. He kept looking for snakes but couldn't see any, even when he picked up a stick and poked through a pile of leaves and debris.

"Maybe if we find a deep hole here, we can go down it like Alice, come out the other side in Wonderland." He commented to himself, crouching on the other side of a narrow pass, poking at the dirt and leaves with his stick. When he saw Voldemort approaching he waved him over.

"Found a dead bat, but not much else. And I guess this cave won't go very deep either." He was rather melancholy about that. If only they could travel deep into the earth and find wonderous things! Though he wasn't sure if Voldemort would be able to feed a T-rex.

"Do you think the caves maybe go way under the water? Connect to the mainland?"

Voldemort caught up with Godfrey, his robes dragging on the damp ground, getting slightly dirty. He looked ahead, and the cave simply faded into darkness, no matter how well his eyes were adjusted. It must go on quite a good ways. He produced his wand from an inner pocket of his robes, flicking it to send a bright beam of light down the corridor of the cave. It flickered slightly, going on and on, illuminating the many small passageways as it went until it too simply faded away.

"Seems likely. Going on so far it has to lead out at some point, the island itself isn't that long across... in fact..." Voldemort paused, wand still held in one hand, pointed ahead. "I'm sure I can hear water. Can't you?" He motioned to Godfrey's ears, figuring he just must not be listening for it. If there was water in the cave that would definitely prove to be interesting. Warmer water animals would evolve differently in the cool darkness of this environment.

He stepped passed Godfrey, heading onwards. "We'll just go and see."

Godfrey twitched his ears forward at Voldemort's prompting, eyes half-closing as he listened. Now that he was paying attention, he thought he DID hear the sound of water, or at least something dripping or rushing through deeper into the cave.

So intent he was on listening that he didn't realize for a few moments that Voldemort was already swiftly moving towards the sound. He could still see the light as he quickly stood up, then followed after Voldemort in the semi-darkness, hurrying after him.

Voldemort looked over his shoulder to make sure Godfrey was following. He lit the end of his wand now, as almost no light was penetrating this far into the cave, and though he could make out where he was going, one couldn't exactly see more than a few feet ahead. A bat flew away from the brightness, squeaking irritably. Ahead on the wall, something snatched at the flying rodent, and the squeaking stopped abruptly.

"Ah." He walked over to the snake, clinging to the smallest niche in the cave wall, it's body extended almost impossibly outward. A common cave snake, it was probably waiting days with it's body sticking out. They would wait like that, motionless until something came close enough to grab. It was nearly all white, standing out starkly against the cave wall now that it was in the light.

The snake munched and cracked the small bat until it was gone. "It's amazing how diverse these snakes are... you find them almost everywhere."

Godfrey came to a standstill behind Voldemort, squinting his eyes to separate the whitish snake from the light of Voldemort's wandtip. He didn't get to see the snake strike, but watched with fascination as it completely consumed the bat in a small amount of time.

Watching the snake eat the bat made him feel odd, however, and he ignored the odd feeling until something loud and angry sounding growled from around his midsection.

Godfrey jumped back, arms flailing as he tried to fend off whatever thing had growled at him. "Ah! There's something-"

"Oh wait..." The rumbling growl came again and Godfrey crossed his arms over his stomach, embarrassed. First he wasted time with all his swimming, and now he was hungry? They'd never get anything done if Voldemort had to keep stopping for him.

"Sorry." He said, laughing slightly at himself and rubbing his stomach. "Just... do you have any snacks on you? And uh.. maybe something to drink? Um.... I forgot to bring anything"

Voldemort turned his gaze to Godfrey, holding the lighted wand up so he could see him more clearly. He smiled slightly, pondering this. "Well... I think I can pull something up from home." A modest statement, because of course he could. He watched the snake for a few more moments, contentedly pressing itself along the wall as the small bulge of the bats body slid down.

"Come on, we can set something up." Voldemort smiled slightly, making sure Godfrey could see. He let the snake continue enjoying it's meal, walking ahead a few yards. He looked to be whispering something into his wand and pop.

A blanket appeared, blue and black checkered and set itself into a nice flat square on the cave floor. Then a basket, a half dozen wrapped sandwiches visibly falling into it along with what looked like bottled orange and pumpkin juice.

"We... we didn't have to stop." Godfrey said, looking down at the blanket and scuffing his sandal on the cave floor. But in the next instant he'd dived for the basket, plopping down next to it and already unwrapping a sandwich in a blink of an eye. He felt bad but he was really hungry, he couldn't help that he got this way. And Voldemort had smiled, so it had to be alright.

"Thank you." He said, remembering his manners before he shoved a large corner into his mouth. His other hand groped in the basket until he pulled out the bottle of orange juice. With no cups in sight he popped the cork off with a thumb, tilting it back and downing a fourth of it in an instant.

"Are you going to... sit?" Godfrey asked as he licked the juice off of his chin, fishing for the cork and putting it back on the bottle. He patted the spot next to him on the blanket- although there was plenty of space everywhere else- and even scooted over an inch to make more room.

"It's no trouble." Voldemort actually took Godfrey's direction, sitting down on the checkered blanket where the boy had motioned for him to. He pulled the basket closer to them both so it was right in front of them, taking the pumpkin juice from inside. In his other hand appeared a thinly spun glass goblet which he poured some of the juice into and sipped at thoughtfully.

The cave floor was cool, but he didn't feel cold, not really. His body temperature was lower than average, a side effect of the reincarnated body he inhabited. Cold just didn't phase him most of the time. "I have a good feeling about this place today. Something is definitely here."

The coolness of the cave felt like nothing compared to the warmth of his flushed cheeks as Voldemort sat down beside him. He watched the fragile goblet appear between Voldemort's slender fingers and he couldn't help but wish to hold them with his slightly smaller ones. His eyes travelled upwards to the pale throat and thin lips and lingered until he suddenly caught himself and looked away.

"Yeah, something." He wished his thoughts would go away, just for one day. Today was too nice for him to be thinking of things he should not and could not be wanting. Such as a kiss.

Godfrey resolved to pay closer attention to his sandwich. Food could always distract him. "S'good." He said, holding up the remainder of his first before stuffing it in his mouth. He immediately felt awkward for doing so and tried to chew without looking like a chipmunk with over stuffed cheeks.

Voldemort, too, was fighting not to stare. He could reason that there wasn't much else to look at in the darkness of the cave, but of course that wasn't it at all. His wand, which now rested on the blanket next to his free hand still emanated a blue light that kept the cavern lit for a good dozen feet. It was a similar wand as the one he had grown up with, the one that had be the twin of Harry's. The same wood and core, but a different wand. The original had been lost, though he couldn't recall where or when. Perhaps it had found itself a new master.

"I don't know if a Basilisk could sustain itself living here, but it seems possible. Perhaps a young one..." He could feel the presence of something, like a heartbeat. Soft and faint but still there somehow, and definitely of magical origin. Nonmagical creatures he could detect with ease, and most Magical beasts as well. Some though had evolved with this knowledge and built up their own magical shields to prevent such detection.

Voldemort finished the bit of juice but still clutched the goblet in one hand as if to prevent himself from doing anything else with it.

Godfrey choked down the rest of his food, eyes darting from the basket to Voldemort's hand on the goblet. He grabbed a second sandwich and ate it slowly, feeling hungry but at the same time becoming upset with the thoughts swirling around in his head.

Can't feel this way, can't think these things. Dad would hate me, he'd disown me, it'd kill him! And I really don't hate him, I don't know why I 'm so mean to him, why I'm so horrible. He always tries and doesn't forget anymore and I've been lying to everyone for so long...

He didn't want to cry and alert Voldemort that he was being all dramatic or that something was off, and chewed his sandwich furiously, drawing a somewhat ragged breath after swallowing. Maybe he couldn't tell Voldemort how he felt, but he could ask him for..... help.

" Do... do you think my parents will kill me when they find out we're friends? .......or... do you think it will kill them?" He composed he question in a rush of air, his tone expressing his worry. Voldemort was really the only one he could pose his question to, since he was keeping the secret from absolutely everyone. Not he ultimate question he wanted to ask, but this had been burning in his mind for a while now.

Voldemort watched Godfrey, could tell he was troubled by something. He knew it wasn't the food since he was eating a second sandwich, and he knew it wasn't the cold because Godfrey was emanating his normal wave of heat which reached him even from the couple of feet between them. Other than both those things Voldemort didn't even know where to start. Godfrey was rather a mystery most of the time, what he was thinking and how he was feeling. Very hard to predict where things would go, or what he could say to help.

The question was also a difficult one to answer, and he wasn't sure what spurred Godfrey to ask it. He set the goblet in the basket, taking a deep breath. His eyes didn't waver from Godfrey's face, trying to unpuzzle him, figure out something.

"No, I don't think either of those things are likely."

He knew he needed to say more, and the silence hung in the air like a wall between them, but he couldn't think of what to say. He hoped this was one of the things where Godfrey would just spill his emotions and he could listen.

"But what if they demanded I stop seeing you? What if... what if they called the aurors..... I mean.." Godfrey took a deep breath, gesturing around the cave. "How can I tell them one day how great it was to be out here and how you let me swim and taught me so many things and that you..... you're not exactly like the person they remember because you choose to be different..... all they'll hear is how I went far away somewhere and spent the day with you deep under ground where no one can find us or really know what we were doing? How can I make them see how great this day has been and how great it always is and that... I'm not stupid for trusting you or liking you and how can I tell them that no matter what they say, I'll never leave you? That I won't let you be alone ever again?"

Godfrey sniffled, letting out a shaky annoyed breath at the fact that he was crying, ruining the day. His shoulders slumped and he crumbled his leftover crust onto the cave floor with a few twists of his fingers.

" How can I tell them that you'll never let me feel alone again either?"

Voldemort listened, his expression unchanging despite the fact all of what Godfrey was saying tugged on his emotions. He himself had wondered similar things, probably more often even than Godfrey. Having most of his time to sit and think it was no wonder these things went through his mind. Godfrey was his only company lately, his only real contact with the outside world. If he tried he might be able to have other people in his life, companions. But such a thing seemed unthinkable, impossible. Godfrey being here like he was right now was beyond anything Voldemort could have thought possible. That Godfrey trusted him, enjoyed being with him, even looked up to him. Sought him out for guidance.

Voldemort held his breath, trying to process all Godfrey was saying and think of a response. But everything he thought of sounded idiotic in his head. Godfrey was crying and he wanted it to stop but how could he help when he felt like crying as well? He hadn't felt anything for anyone in so long; Godfrey leaving was now his greatest fear. To go back to that loneliness was unthinkable.

Voldemort closed his red eyes for a long moment, voice low. "They can't keep you from me, Godfrey. Not forever."
