Torrina Shirogane Bleeding Oath Torrina Shirogane Bleeding Oath Ah. But he is one that would do anything for Sora, as we all know. 3nodding They kinda cancel each other out I suppose... True, but if he was the kind of guy who murdered anyone who stood in his way, Kairi would have been dead, buried, and sprouting daisies long ago. ^^; Kairi isn't worthy of Daisys. She would sprout weeds. D:<

OMFG new theory! Riku was looking to the ocean because Kairi was basicly his ticket off the islands. But the sky opened to the darkness. Riku's freedom was with Sora.
New theory number 2. In Christianity. Peter (translated as rock) is given the keys to the kingdom. (aka heaven) There are theorys that Riku was ment to get the keyblade, (not going to go into this just trust me) not to mention that heaven is supposed to start with the HEART(kingdom hearts). Riku says Sora opened the door to the light but it could have been the bond between them ne?

As a beaver (I attended Karns High School, where the school mascot was the eager beaver), I take offense. We beavers will from this point onward boycott all Kairi related items until they either change her name or give her buck teeth and a flat tail.

Well, I've always thought (since in the game, no matter how much we want it, Riku and Sora will never get together), when you look out at the ocean, the sky seems to meld with the ocean..like it never ends.
The ground and the sky will never meet, they will always watch, admiring eachother. Although they fit perfectly together, as fate would have it, they're destined to never actually be together.
I have no problems with Kairi, she's just a little bratty, and she gets in the way of Sora and Riku's relationship. But there's no real reason to hate her.
That's just my point of view.

I haven't read this whole thing yet so someone MIGHT have said this already but...
You know where Riku always stands? When you look out on the horizon you see the ocean and the sky. nothing else.

See? He always looks somewhat depressed by it, wanting to get out. He knows he doesn't belong where Sora and Kairi are, no matter how much he wants to. He wants to be somewhere else, away from the islands. maybe then he'll see himself with Sora. Or something like that.
Edit: My japanese friend also said Riku means something like waterfall or shore

HOLY EFFING OH MY GAWD! I can't believe no-one else has said this (that I'm aware of ninja ) The opening of KH1!! Riku standing in the ocean and Sora coming in after him... The wave comes and overtakes them (ocean = kairi remember?) And they are seperated... but Sora and Riku are still reaching out for eachother.

Stion Okay, I've heard some things throughout the guild that everyone's name means a different thing in Kingdom Hearts. Well, at least Sora, Riku, and Kairi's names mean something. As far as I've heard. Anyway, Sora's name is supposed to mean sky, Riku's is ground, and Kairi means seperation between something (Sora=sky, Riku=ground). So, do you think that the game producers did that on purpose? Or was it just by chance? My thoughts: Well, I believe that Kairi is a seperation between Riku and Sora because they were so much better off without her, rant, rant, rant. She's like a distraction, kinda like how people always look out toward to horizon, or far out; waiting for what's out there. That's exactly what Kairi did. She tore Sora and Riku's attention away from each other (or something..I dunno) and made them focus on wanting to go to other worlds. So, basically, she's where ground meets sky. So maybe it could even go into something like Riku and Sora are forbidden to be together and they need to have Kairi in between them for a challenge in the story line, or the main bump in the road to get over. I guess you could call this a mini-debate board. Sure, why not. I'd really like to hear your opinions on this matter/topic/thingy. Your logic intrigues me....but I have to disagree. Kairi completes them, and besides Sora only liked Kairi as far as I'm concerned. He's just really good friends w/ Riku...but I'll let you have your fantasies as I do mine... cool

Torrina Shirogane *nods enthusiastically while reading kupo-tenshi's post* Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. *applauds* Everything you said made perfect sense.
Let me offer up some more food for thought.
I was messing around with my downloaded English to Japanese to English translator, and I found that:
1. The word 'kairiku' means 'land and sea'. I guess this one makes sense if Kairi's name does come from the Japanese symbol meaning 'ocean', but...the way that word is formed...Is it just me or does that look an awful lot like how the pairing Kairi/Riku would be written? *left eye twitches*
2. On a (much) lighter note, the same translator told me that the word 'soriku' means 'land and air forces'. Hmmm...Does that mean that Riku and Sora will soon be allies in the quest to rid the worlds of Heartless/darkness/Nobodies/whatever the hell they have to defeat in KH2? Lol, one can only hope.
3. On an even lighter note, my translator (and believe me, I love this cheap application for this little translation), told me that the word 'kairi' can also mean 'beaver'. Now, I have no idea if this is true or not, but...I happen to find it ******** hilarious! rofl heart The beaver thing is hilarious! And You know how you said that soriku means land air forces? It could mean that Riku and Sora are building an army of minions to take out Kairi. XD
