Sora turned slightly red when Delphia nipped at him, hard to do for a soquili....turn red that is.
He dropped gently on his knees and curled up on the ground, whinnying to the mare to join him, "it'll be warmer here..." and he tugged at one of the furs closer. Inside the teepee there were two mounds that look like makeshift beds with several other random objects scatterd around, furs and arrows and boxes of meat. In one corner was a small silvery basket, gathering dust.....it looked like a soquili basket.
Sora looked at the mare and smiled.

She carefully made her way over to him, but was watching the basket. Was that really a soquili basket? Unable to resist, she minced right by him, swishing her tail across his face, and went to nose the basket. Her snuffles raised the dust on the basket, making her sneeze and move back a few steps. Since she was headed that way anyway now, she eased backwards until she was beside him, then settled down to the ground as well.

Still, that basket had her attention. She turned an inquiring gaze on Sora and asked, "Is that one yours?" She didn't really want to come right out and bluntly ask if it was his son or daughter. What an embarassing thing to ask! But she did want to know.... just because. She tried hard not to blush at him as she both leaned into him and waited for his answer.

Sora smiled shyly, and gave Delphia a gentle nuzzle, blowing warm breathe to keep her warm. As he tugged the fur blanket over her, he said, "that used to be mine. I was in there for a long time....big brother said that must be why I run around all the time now because I was silent for so long...."

He gazed at her for a moment then blushed, laying his head to the ground. The gray stallion was not accustomed to talking to other soquilis...especially mares.....he usually just leap about in some game. This was new to him, just sitting and being silent....but it felt comfortable and he sighed inwardly..happy..

Delphia closed her eyes and enjoyed his nuzzle. Funny how it warmed her more inside than it did on the outside. She opened her eyes when he laid his head down. Smiling, she nibbled a bit on his mane, then laid her head across his neck, settling closer. This was very comfy, she mused. Suddenly she wondered what it would be like to share space like this with him years down the road. The thought made her smile. He was a very gentle and loving stallion, and as playful as she was, if not more so! Content, she closed her eyes.

((This is looking rather good for these two. What do you guys think of the idea of pairing them up as mates?))

((^___________________^ i can hear him whinnying now.....do you want their humans to meet? i can bring tahatan in......))

He closed his eyes, hardly moving as Delphia settled on him.
She smelt nice....of the pine trees found on higher grounds..it teminded him of the dream a long time ago as he laid safe in the basket. The same scent...
Sora opened one clear green eye slowly, watching the shadows darken and fall against the form of the mare beside him.
Then a sound ...from outside the teepee. His long grey ears twitched, listening. A cough and a shuffle caused him to lift his head, could it be big brother?

((Sorry hon, had real life issues! Yes, certainly we can introduce the humans, if you like. Though half the time Talencia seems to be an afterthought, heh.))

She had fallen asleep. She was so comfortable with him, and she had grown so nice and warm... she breathed heavily but softly, her head still propped over his neck, completely unaware of his gaze. However, when he lifted his head, it woke her. She gave a startled snort and threw her head up and alarm, just due to being unexpectedly awakened from her doze. Her eyes were wide and her ears were flickering hither and thither, looking for danger, nostrils flared wide.

But Sora's warm and earthy scent were the first thing she inhaled, and the pace and safety she connected wth his smell now counteracted her startled fleeting fear, and she heaved a great huff of a sigh. "What is it?" she asked quietly, for he was clearly listening and watching and waiting, though not with any touch of fear, but of welcome. What had she missed n her slumber and then startlement?

((has just spotted the amazingly beautiful soquili in ur sig......*drools*))

He smiled gently and nosed her, prodding her to relax and to lean back into him, "It's alright...."
His eyes were still trained at the teepee's opening..

The young hunter stamped his foot to get rid of the snow that had clung to him as he had roamed the wildlands to the north. It's been some time since he last came home to the teepee he and Ahiga shared, along with Sora of course. As he carefully opened the flap into the tent, a shy smile came onto his face as he thought of seeing his family again, but a snort within caused his caution to return. It did not sound like Sora, this one was softer and smelled of the highlands within, so he poked his head inside tentatively, "hello....?" and saw the grey stallion neatly tucked beside a warm darker marked mare. Tahatan casually raise one eyebrow.

Sora gave a whinny of welcome, albeit a softer one than he usually does in order not to startled Delphia. He met big brother's raised eyebrow with a shy grin and nosed the mare beside him.

Delphia trusted Sora iimplicitly, despite their short tme together, and so she had relaxed back beside him, though she too turned her head to the door flap. When it was first pulled aside, she had snorted in mild surprise, but not in fear. The stallion's ease next to her reassured her that he knew just who it was that was coming in.

When a young man entered cautiously and greeted them curiously, she gave a low, rumblng whicker and blew gently through her nose at him in welcome. She closed her eyes with a smile when Sora nudged her in response to his human's questioning look. She turned to nuzzle under his chin and asked softly. "Who is this, Sora?" There was no concern n her voice, but interest and... yes, and love. Delphia let that mull in the back of her mind. Her heart wasn't hammering, nor was she nervous... nothing like her crush on Cyrus. This was warmer, deeper, and more comfortable and happy. Was this love?

Sora laid his head across her, his mind not really contemplating anything but filled with bubbles and berries and pine cones and little squirrels and sunlight and the stars at night. He was comfortable and liked spending his time with the mare although the full reality of it have not sunk into his mind.
His breathe came in soft wisps from his nose as he sighed happily. In some way he has no idea how to tell his bonded humans, so he was rather showing....

In the half dark, he smiled at the sight, recognising that Sora has somehow brought a mare back to share the tent. He wondered where the stallion found her, she was a beauty no doubt, and not once he has seen in the village.
Carefully, he threaded his way past them towards the bed of furs, and sat down, watching the mare. He laid down his bow and brought out one calm hand, whispering softly to the mare, "where did you come from, beautiful one...." and petted her behinds the ears.

Delphia smiled to herself as Sora seemed to drift off into a happy dreamland with his head laying across her shoulders. It pleased her to have him close and settled a serene sense of well-being over her. She watched contentedly as the human moved through the teepee and approached her. She blew politely into his hand before he touched behind her ears. With a faint grunt she leaned her poll towards him more, requesting scratches at one of the best spots, where she could never quite reach properly. His voice was soft and his touch kindly. She decided that she liked this man for himself, and not just because he obviously was dear to Sora.

Talencia
Ceylona regarded the stallion with some surprise. No other soquili had approached her as yet... she had always been the one to come to them, to ask questions and find out about these humans. This stallion's approach intrigued her.

"Greetings grey one, I am Ceylona." She moved to him and blew politely to exchange scents, as the wild ones do. She flickered her ears in question. "Do you have a human... a creature of two legs?" She tossed her mane in an expression of bafflement. "I have heard of them, but never seen one. I haven't grown confident enough to approach their living place." She snorted hard and bobbed her head. "Too many strange smells."

lostlinx
Lobes wavered curiously listen the mare. "I have no connections with a single human, but I have been near one before." Chocolate orbs glance back to the direction in which he came. "Though I have heard of some soquili being bonded with them. Shifting his weight he sizes up red mare. His nostrils flare as the wind fills his sensitive nose. Stretching his neck, he lips her mane. Returning to his original position a look of slight disappointment shown upon his face. "I'm sorry, I thought that perhaps you would taste as sweet as you smell." The look of disappointment disappears as his chocolate orbs glisen with amusement.

Talencia
The cinnamon-colored mare stared at him with mixed feelings. Part of her was quite insulted by him wanting to taste her! The other part was rather amused at his cheek. Both these feelings warred for a time, during which she simply gazed at him, clearly judging what her next move should be. In the end, she opted for a clever retort. "Perhaps my sweetness is of nature and not of taste." She snorted in mock ire and swished her long, sweeping tail, but her expression had no hint of disgruntlement, only wry amusement.

"So what are these humans like? And why do our kind bond with them?" She snatched a quick mouthful of grass and chewed thoughtfully, dwelling on her puzzlement about humans and listening for his answer.

lostlinx
Chocolate orbs watched the mare with amusement. At her clever retort he throws his head up, pleased with her sarcastic reply.
"And that is the better of the two, for if you're taste was as sweet as your nature, I do believe I wouldn't have been so lucky as to meet you as you would have been taken by the first to grace your skin and taste your sweetness."
Shifting his weigh, he gazes at her thoughtfully.
"Do you want to be bonded with a human? You seem very curious about them."
Reaching to his stomach he bites at an itch. Turning back, his ears flicker as he thinks.
"From the one human I came in contact with they seem nice, but it could have been just the one. I was with a human, but I wouldn't consider bonded, I felt a calling to search for soquili, and possibly a mate down the line I suppose."
At the thought of a mate and a family, he flickers his tail slightly. His grey coat shown in the sunlight, but his coat was that of a normal soquili, nothing fancy, it would probably be a long time before he found a mate.

Talencia
The red mare regarded the nearby river thoughtfully, mouthing a bit of grass that dangled from her lips. "I don't know if I want to have anything to do with humans yet." Her eyes refocused on Manitou. "Much less become bonded to one." Her entire hide twitched at the idea of being bound to anything and anyone. She had survived wild by having a strong will and a very fierce sense of freedom. The idea of being bound at all seemed like an infringement.

Consequently at his mention of searching for a mate, she tossed her head proudly, luxurious mane flowing elegantly around her. A mate! She snorted with a mild squeal of indignance and gave a small buck of ire. The very idea! She pranced a few steps in place, her head held high, daring anyone to say she needed a mate. She needed noone.

"I need noone. I do not need a mate and I do not need a human. I am simply curious about these creatures, as they are a novelty to me." She kept her chin high and her eyes flashing. "But I need noone."

lostlinx
In surprise to her tossing her own, Manitou tosses his head up. Lobes flicker restlessly as he side steps towards the river he had caught her eyeing.
"Some day you will feel a pull towards someone, its just not something you can control...at least thats how I feel about it."
Chocolate orbs gaze into the waters of the river. Nares flare as the scents from the water lillies tempt him closer. Turning on his hunches his muscles tense. Taking off at a canter he lopes to the rivers edge, locking his hide legs, he slides to a halt. His long mane and tail, swirling about him. Lowering his muzzle to the waters surface, he huffs, sending ripples along the water. Looking back at Ceylona, he whickers softly, encouraging her to follow suit.
"You know you want to."

Talencia
Ceylona regarded the male with growing disdain. He was a nice enough stallion generally, but she was coming to realize they had nothing in common. She was a wild thing, and took life mostly seriously. Playing in the water was not her idea of a good time.

She snorted wetly and pawed the ground. "Actually I don't." She added as an after-thought, "But thank you anyway. I think I'll stay over here and mull a bit on those humans." She entirely ignored his implication that even she would end up finding herself in a relationship she felt she couldn't live without. At least for the time being, this mare was entirely self-sufficient, and no upstart stallion with his theories and opinions was going to change her mind!

lostlinx
Dark chocolate orbs gaze at the mare. Displeased he snorts, and walks back to where she stood.
"Would you rather go look for the two-leggers? Would you rather find yourself attached to one of those? Two-legger's are tricky, they'll lure you in and then they'll jump up on your back, and treat you like an animal. Is that what you want? Why are you so obsessed over those beasts?"
Lobes flicker and fall back against his skull. How could she not want to have a mate, have a family, but could be so intrigued by meaningless humans.
"You which to be self dependant? But once you get to know a two legger you'll be even less dependant then if you had a mate."
Tossing his head up in slight anger, he snorts. Lobes rise then fall once more, waiting for the mares reasoning.

Talencia
She slammed a hoof down in a gesture of having had enough. She eyed the male coolly, her demeanor deceptively calm. When Ceylona got angry, she didn't explode. She got ice cold and her fury was highly controlled.

When she spoke her words were clear and clipped. "I strive to understand what is new to me. I do not need these humans nor have I said I wished to have one. I want to know more about them. Call it a prison of my own choosing, if you so choose." Her lip curled in a mild sneer at the idea.

"But even if these humans caught me, and leaped on my back... am I not a strong mare? Have I not rid myself of larger predators than they?" She tossed her head proudly and rose in the air a few inches before letting her forehooves touch the ground again. She stared Manitou in the eye the entire time. "I am not curious about having a mate. I understand you stallions all too well. You speak of humans treating me as an animal, and yet most stallions treat their mares as possessions! I will not have it, and do not intend on being controlled thus."

She took one step forward. "So I am leaving now to further my quest." She took another step towards him. "A quest I intend to finish in my own way to whatever end I choose." She took a last, long-legged step to him, nearly muzzle to muzzle with the grey stallion. "And I would like to suggest you let me go, and leave me to that quest. I have told you I have no interest in a mate, and I do hope you'll respect that." Her voice dripped with cold dislike.

With a last wet snort, she shouldered him aside and trotted off into the trees at a boldly leisurely pace, a silent indication of her lack of fear or interest in this demanding stallion. What did he know of her and her wishes or abilities? Mentally she dismissed him from her mind with a physical sweep of her gracefully flowing tail.

((This is entirely unrelated to the Cey/Manitou storyline... I had the urge and wanted to play it out.))

The big red mare was wandering alone in the forest. She had a lot on her mind. She had yet to meet any of these humans, but apparently they were a very big part of some soquili's lives. Others interacted with humans, but not often. And still others were as wild as she was. And yet all of them were happy with their own situation.

That left her with a very big question to answer. Where did that leave her? Where did she fit in? Where did she WANT to fit in? She just wasn't sure yet.

She plodded through the sodden forest. It hadn't rained yet, but the melted snow had drenched everything, and the air was very humid, though still cold. The blanket of leaves underhoof squelched just faintly. The smell of the recent grassfire drifted faintly on the wind. It made her heave a sigh. She could see the advantage of having a friend who stood on two legs and could do more with their front legs... arms, were they? But a part of her rebelled from being tied down so.

She snorted at herself then. She hadn't wanted a mate so far for the same reason. However, she knew someday she would take a mate. And if that could happen at some later date... where did that put the likelihood of accepting a human into her life? She shook her head hard at the thought, sending her streaming mane all akimbo. She just didn't know. Perhaps it was time to take that step and actually meet a human? It might help her decide for herself. With a decisive snort and stomp of her hoof, she threw her head up and neighed. Yes, she would go try to meet a human. But only one! She didn't kneed a herd of the things crowding around her, no sir.

She pivoted on her hind hooves, turning back towards the valley and galloping elegantly towards the curve of river, where she would cross into what she thought of as the human territory.
