Rosewood was breathing hard. She couldn't help but take in his glorious scent as they wrestled, and she could feel her skin flushing with colour again, glad that her coat hid it so well. When he got up however, a disappointed huff escaped her without meaning to. Rolling up to her feet, she cocked her head to the side.

"What is there to be sorry for? The Chief Rabbit can't have fun?" So close to breaking him out of his shell! He was the tortoise down by the creek, so enclosed in his protective casing. What was it that made him so? For a split second she thought it was her, but shook the idea from her head. There was nothing wrong with her, and there was nothing to apologize for.

Bracken gave a sad shake of his head. "No, its not that. I just..." he paused and then frowned. "Forgive me," he told her apologetically before turning around and starting to move back up the hill. What had gotten into him? Especially now of all times with all that was going on in the warren? How could he have let himself get so distracted... and... was he starting to forget? No, he couldn't do that.

Shocked, the Doe took a step toward him. "NO! Please, i'm sorry, whatever i did...." She called after him. "I'm sorry i'm wrong." She said outloud, more to herself. She couldn't let the day end like this. Not after all the fun that they had had.... hadn't it been fun? Hadn't he been right there with her, chasing her in the summer afternoon? If she couldn't have him, she could at least be his friend.... what was it keeping him from her? "I'm sorry.." She whispered.

Bracken paused as he heard her pleas. His ears tilting back as he knew this was unfair to her. She deserved some sort of explanation. Something. He couldn't just leave her like that. He tilted his head to the side, but couldn't quite bring himself to look back at Rosewood.

"Its not your fault," he assured her. "You did nothing wrong. Its about me."

Bracken heaved a heavy sigh. "There was another once. I just... can't let go. I'm so sorry." With that, he continued on his way.

Rosewood knew.... she had known all along probably, and hadn't wanted to admit it. It still wasn't fair though. Still wasn't what was right for either of them. He deserved more, and she deserved something. The world was bitter and cruel sometimes, and it was a hard lesson to learn. So she would have no kittens this year. She would watch as others had their families, and were fought over, but she would stay barren. In one afternoon, she'd signed away what she never thought she would, knowing it would be crushed into oblivion. Turning slowly, she ran back to her hovel, glad Birchwood was gone with his friends so she could mourn to herself.
