Alastair sort of hid in the back of the crowd meekly, knowing full well that he was quite liable to mess up in this. He was never very good at dodging through things, but maybe he could do this right...? The recruit stretched a little, swishing some of his hair out of his face idly. Either way, he'd try. He wasn't going to drop out of here at the first sign of a challenge, oh no.

The Drill Sergeant stood with his eyes trained on the first obstacle, expecting the first pair of recruits to start at any moment...
What a long moment.
Adrian whipped his head around to glare at the recruits, wondering why the bumbling group hadn't started yet. Rather, they were standing around like a flock of lost ducklings quacking uselessly about. Really, how hard was it to find a partner and go? This wasn't a social class, this was a physical training drill! And they were supposed to have lined up from most experienced to least before he had arrived.
"Congratulations, you have all just been eaten by the centipedes," he announced to the group, crossing his arms with a dark look as he contemplated how he should punish them. Adrian smirked when he got a great idea. "Since you all seem to be so eager to start, you can do the obstacle course without your shoes... five times. Take them off."
As an afterthought, having seen the recruits moving around as they attempted to find partners, Adrian decided that since they wanted to be with their good friends... "And since some of you seem so attached at the hip, let's make this a little bit more friendly for you all."
Adrian bent down and rummaged through his pack, before pulling out a dozen handcuffs - how he got them was a mysterday. Walking through the group, he handed a set of handcuffs to every pair. "You will handcuff your hands to each other and run the course bound together." And in case some of them didn't know how to use the handcuffs, Adrian demonstrated by throwing one end of the handcuff on Lysander's left hand and the other on Emi's right hand. "Why, thank you for volunteering to go first."
Gesturing Lysander and Emi towards the obstacles, Adrian returned to his place to keep vigil. "Off you go now, unless this still isn't challenging enough for all of you?"

Helena's eyes fell on the handcuffs with a slight grimace, unsure of whom would be cursed to link up with her. She looked around half-heartedly, just waiting for the first person who met her gaze to be her partner, no matter if they liked her or not. However, she didn't expect it to be easy, seeing as she had to find a partner before her turn for the course came up, or else she might embarrass herself.

Flicking off his shoes with a grimace, Alastair was glad for his socks. The ground was chilly, and it sapped the heat from his feet with a vengeance. He picked up his shoes and looked around for a partner, catching sight of a girl that seemed to be as reluctant as he was. Alastair walked up to Helena, frowning slightly as confrontation wasn't his forte.
"Um, ah, well. I see that you don't have a partner yet, and I don't either. So, um, maybe we should pair up. Save a bit of trouble, at least..."

Emi cringed as she looked from the handcuffs to the course. I know I like to be challenged but this is just harsh, she thought to herself. She opened her mouth to argue then quickly shut it. She didn't dare open her mouth and make everything worse for everyone else. Sure, she saw were Adrian was coming from but really? Emi quietly groaned to herself. She gently tugged on the handcuffs, signaling to Lysander to move forward to the front.
She wonder how excactly they were supposed to run the course if they were hundcuffed together. Couldn't exactly race could they. Would they have to take one side all the way through? Movement was a problem to. Emi knew she would have to stay in sync with her friend. Joy to the world, Adrian, you are offically my favorite teacher so far in my life. She laughed to herself almost silently. Favorite teacher was what Adrian was to her. Of course, she figured it would be best not to say anything out loud.

Handcuffs...oh no, as if without shoes wasn't bad enough, Lyra thought. Not only did she still need a partner, she'd have to hope that that recruit would be patient on her, considering her unfitness compared to the majority of the recruits. Sure, she's been working extra hard on shaping up, but she was still lacking in strength. Stay calm, and just see if anyone doesn't seem partnered up already, she told herself. After all, she didn't want to be singled out by the drill sergeant. Lyra hated being in the limelight.

After removing his shoes, Lysander looked indignantly at his wrist. This was just perfect. There went his entire plan. BAM! right out the window. He'd have to find some other way to earn a kiss. It took only seconds to have another plan thought up. Emi would inevitably mess up or need help with one or two of the obstacles. To put it simply, Lysander would probably have to carry her the entire way. At least this was his opinion on the subject. By the end, she would be so grateful to him, that she would reward him the kiss without so much as a suggestion from Lysander. He smiled. 'Yeah....' he thought, nodding his head, 'That's the plan.
He followed her to the front and started the low crawl. While crawling, he made it a point to say, "Try to keep up. I don't wanna have to drag you the whole way." Using his elbows, he pulled himself forward, the rest of his weight resting uncomfortably on his knees. He constantly looked back to make sure his feet were high enough to stay out of the snow and low enough not to touch the ropes. This was one of those sitations where being tall was more a disadvantage than the advantague Lysander had always thought it to be.

Emi sighed at Lysander. Really? Did he think that she was just going to let him make remarks about having to keep up with him? Um, no way would she. "Trust me, Lysander, I have no intention of letting you drag me around," she shot back at him, slightly mad at his words. Wait, calm down, Emi. Don't let him get to you. Just keep cool and get through this thing. Then you can yell at him after. She took a breath and analyzed her situation.
It was at times like these that she was glad to be of a normal height. It became clear to her that during the low crawl she couldn't exactly always stay in pace with him or slightly behind him so she took it onto herself to lead. Carefully she inched further so she was in front of Lysander but still close enough that the handcuffs wouldn't mess up anything. She reached the end of the low crawl and pulled herself from under the ropes. "Come on, Lysander. Better keep up. Don't want to humiliate you," she said with a smirk.

Virginia rolled her eyes, but obeyed. "Is this really necessary?" she said under her breath as she took off her shoes, but not loudly to be heard by anyone but perhaps those closest to her, and only if they were paying attention. With a small sigh, she began looking for a partner. Now, instead of ignoring the person next to her and doing her best on her own, she would have to worry about another person and their issues with the course. At least it may be a good teamwork exercise, if she managed to find someone who would listen to her and talk to her before they started... Good thing she was at the back of the crowd anyway, she'd have time to find someone and learn enough about them to deal with the course together. Unless the pushy teacher decided to force her to the front. That would make things very difficult... What if the person, not knowing of her fears, jumped without making sure she was ready? She could get a rather serious injury... Keeping her worries to herself, she looked for someone nearby who didn't have a partner.

Lysander was slower than Emi in this one, but he was at an obvious disadvantage. He was taller and had to be more careful. A few seconds after she went through and acted all triumphant, he was out and moving toward the next course, the tire run. His feet were only cold while he was in the low crawl. Right now, they were wet, as were his clothes. He brushed what snow hadn't melted off and started on the next obstacle. Emi should have a little trouble with this one, he thought.
Lysander would have to hurry through it now. If he wanted to keep his feet, at least. The next obstacles without snow on them were the vault and the balance bars. The vault would only last a few seconds, but the balance bars would be a good place to slow down and take a short breather. His feet were already numb as he made his way across the first half of the tire run. "Better keep up, Emi! I don't want to lose any toes because of you!" Lysander was, of course, talking about frostbite.

"Don't tell me that! My feet were freezing because off you!" Mitsuki yelled at the younger recruit. Mitsuki had been hopping up and down, trying to keep her feet warm. She kept pace with Lysander. The tire run wasn't all that hard to Mitsuki. It wouldn't be that hard to anyone who jumped trees and buildings. Which wasn't always the smartest idea. Plus she had been through this course so many times that she lost count.
Next were the vault. Mitsuki made sure to ran at a steady pace so she would have enough strength in her legs to launch herself into the air. Her feet and legs were starting to go numb.
