Start from the end, last possible page at forum. I'd see that easiest way. And delete also very old topics that are in wrong places unless topic contain something rare, very useful or interesting conversation.
I take a quick glance to oldest topics, and I use the last post date as a guideline along the facts how timely and non-repetitive topic is. If topic isn't that useful AND in wrong place, date makes the difference. I have checked inside each of these topics I've listed.
