Creek nodded in response to Savith, then instantly regretted it. he had looked down again, his eyes leaving the safety that ws Savith. He took a few breaths before answering, trying hard to steady himself. His voice came out with a slight quiver at first, then strengthened as he spoke. "Seperating one is the best chance. The herd will stampede more often then fight. On our no-hump, we usually seperated the stray back-runners or one on the side. I guess we could do the same with the wolves and striped-claw."

Savith's eyes remained on the herd, seeking one apart from the rest. "Hmm... The wolves are smaller than no-humps, and smell of predator. They won't be able to get in as close, and the stripe-claw is only good for a short sprint. We'll have to plan this carefully."
Turning, he moved toward the rest of hte hunting party, mind reaching for them as he went.
**We've spotted the herd. We'll have to seperate out a straggler, but care needs to be taken,** he stated, then provided the rest with what information he and Creek had of the herd. **Starsong, any suggestions?**

Dewpaw backed down immediately from Starsong's glare. She knew an alpha, and Star was as close as Savith was. Morningtail responded to Dew's wordless send to him to back off, as he stepped back a number of paces, slightly confused. Dew didn't speak up again, but waited until Starsong took off again. She followed once more, still saying nothing. She didn't like Star's glare or how she went after ravvits knowing the hunt was for other things. Dew's discomfort took preference as she made sure Morningtail hung back, keeping a further distance from Starsong than she knew she should have on a hunt.

Dancer trotted along with Autumn behind her. She didn't try to give any advice on the hunt as she wasn't as skilled as others. That might have bothered her not long ago but now is a new day and a new way. She would go along till she was told what was needed of her or till she was forced to react.

Kember is, surprisingly, in the area, blending in with the herd and grazing the plains with them. Not that he's eating the grass... But he's tasting it, out of sheer hunger and desperation. Kember is just starting to realize that perhaps following the peaceful Buffalo wasn't the grandest of his ideas. But before he can kick himself for making another foolish choice, he stops short, glancing up and around... Did he just hear a send? No, it couldn't be. His sees nothing when looking for its source, so shrugs and goes back to pulling at a particularly stubborn weed that will maybe serve as food. The buffalo graze lazily around him in the warm autumn sunshine. A calf - though easily three times his size - nuzzles him affectionately before returning to noisily chomping down plains grasses, and Kember smiles. They're not elves, no, but they do make for alright companions afterall.

The movement of the cat was starting to bother Autumn. Just being on the beast with another was a bother. Without a word she slipped off the cats back and was on the ground. Picking up a rock she swiftly shaped it into a band around her wrist and bounded off after the healer. She could keep watch from the trees or the ground. That felt better aand would save power for the cat to help in the hunt. Hearing Saviths send she waited to see what the wolfrider would have to say.

Starsong continued forward, trying to catch up with the rest of the group. Her mind clouded and every fiber of her being pulled her backwards, back to the ravvits. Thats where the meat was, there was nothing else out there. Doesn't Savith think that she, above everybody else here, would know that. She scoffed in her mind at him, as she turned to make sure Dewpaw was following her orders. She did a double take, wondering why she was so far back. **Stay Close!** she ordered again, her send full of a sharpness like daggers as it was evident that the cub was nowhere near as close as Starsong wanted her to be. She slowed slightly when Savith said he saw the herd, she shook her head in disbelief. There was no way there was a herd anywhere near them, she would have known, she would have "smelled" them, but her mind only saw, and smelled ravvits, way back that way. She would have called Savith a liar, but there was no lies in send, so the truth hit her, very hard. Not knowing what to reply with as she was fighting many conflicting thoughts at once, she sent back in a shaky and hesitant locksend to Savith **I..you do what you think is best** she abruptly cut the send short, she was so confused. Finally she caught up to the others, though still in the treeline, she had not yet seen the herd.

Dewpaw sent back to Starsong the sense of obedience and edged Morningtail closer, but she still opted to remain silent. She hadn't spent much time with Starsong, but she knew Starsong had been sick, something in her head. And she didn't feel comfortable hunting with the older Wolfrider, something felt off.
As they neared the edge of the wood, she caught the scent of something unfamiliar, but only just. It barely floated to her on the breeze. She hung back waiting for further orders, preferably from Savith. She wasn't sure if she trusted Starsongs orders currently.

Savith settled to the ground, putting Creek Runner on his feet lightly just before Starsong's send filtered into his mind. Eyes widened slightly, brows dipping down in concer while a light frown graced his features. His gaze was in Starsong's direction, before he nodded once, as if in reply to a private send before his mind opened to include the rest. **We'll need to position the wolves where we can make a two sided charge at the straggler, and use the stripe-claw as the first sprint to cut it from the rest of the herd. Creek Runner and I will creep near on foot to lend additional support as we can. Autumn Joy, stay a ways back. You'll need to be our overall eyes, so if you can find a place to see from that would be best.** His send was all business, whatever worries over mental states were neatly tucked away... for now.

Orders received Autumn bolts off to find the edge of the clearing. Her mind seeing the large creatures for the first time she would gasp if she could. Her eyes were wide and she stalked into a high tree. Getting up as far as she could to see what was going on over a great part of the clear rolling grasslands. It dipped in places so she couldn't see exactly everything. Still if she needed she could jump to the next couple trees to follow the action as it happened. Her heart raced with the thrill of the hunt and though she would rather be on the ground and doing the killing as well she held her post and kept watch over everyone as they appeared. *I am in place My Chief.*

Starsong raced against the treeline, trying to make it back to her position at the very top point of the "v" strategy that she was supposed to be in. As she finally entered her spot she made her way through the tree's edge to the beginnings of the plains.
That is when she saw them. The big furry fat beasts. Like an oxen or a zwoot, but different. She never spent a lot of time on the plains it was always in the forest, or on her travels to the great vast deep or even the one time she visited the desert.
Eyes wide, she couldn't help but stare as her jaw dropped. They were so big, and so many. Her mind went completely blank as too many questions rushed in all at once. Her grip on Shine faltered and she fell to the forest floor in utter shock and amazement.

The human group, even divided as it was, failed to notice the elves just as the elves had failed to notice them. In position now near the rear of the herd, the two human hunters that have separated from the rest of their group crouch and produce a horn-like object and some large flat slats from their pouches.
One of the hunters, the one with the horn, couldn't be more than 10 or 12 years old, and the other couldn't have been more than 2 hands of years older. They spoke softly to each other in rough human tongue, motioning at the animals and nodding. A few moments later the elder youth made a quick hand signal and the two rushed the herd sounding their 'weapons,' the boy sounding the horn and the teen slapping the slats together.
It was mere coincidence that a storm behind the mountains happened to flash lightning and grumble a little bit, right as they charged the massive animals. It was also mere coincidence that the animals on this particular edge of the herd were particularly skittish. It's a good thing, though, because it's a littel unlikely their antics alone would have incited a stampede. All the same, the young hunters (?) achieved their purpose: to get the herd running in the direction of the hills.
The horn was also a signal for the humans waiting in the hills, who hurried their work - digging a shallow trench to (hopefully) trip one (or more??) of the creatures so they could handle it with spears and spear-slings while it was temporarily incapacitated. With luck the tripped animal wouldn't be trampled by the rest of the herd, but if so, hopefully some parts of it would still be edible - winter was coming, and there were many to feed...
The sound of the horn and the slats - the banging and the screeching - surely catches the attention of some of the elves, and were they to locate the source they would see two humans dancing about jubilantly and still making noise as the herd of buffalo gradually begins charging toward the hills.

Savith had begun to move with the rest of elven hunting group, mind not altogether comfortable with this group hunting thing yet. The start of hte stampede, Starsong's shock trickling into his mind through their still shared link, and the lightening, gave the glider pause. Frowning, he lifted from the ground slightly to see what happened, while his mind reached out in a wordless sense of wait; the forward scout putting out a hand to stay the group he leads. To Autumn Joy, in the tree, Savith's mind sent, **What do you see from up there?**

Sharp eyes bolted to the sound of noise as the heard of furry beasts started to run, lightning flashed and everything seemed to happen at once. She strained to make out what she was looking at. Sending what she saw to Savith as fast as it reached her own eyes. *I'm not sure what they are. Two figures at the rear of the herd. They could be elves or not. It's hard to say from here. The animals were spooked by them so others must be in the area as well. Unless humans are just that stupid. I have little experience with them.* The tone in her send was one of caution. She looked about to see the direction oh the herd and report where they were heading as well.
