Jilan settles back in his chair and goes back to the book, giving off a sheepish feeling when she laughs at him. He thanks her for her compliment, though.

Princess Shuuken does know now, of course, that she will not be able to use such trickery on Jilan, now, right? Or, well, he will be more suspicious, at least. Then he wonders what else she might know about fooling adults? ninja

Shuuken frowns, an eyebrow rising. She won't will she? Shuuken could reveal this all to Jilan, but given the right time, the right place, she could use her trickery on him! The princess exudes confidence as she smiles cockily at her friend before her mind seems to touch on Jilan's last question.

Her hand moves to stroke at her chin as if she was rubbing at some full goatee instead of her smooth flesh. She seems to think long and hard before nodding.

Shuuken will tell Jilan everything she knows! She darts a finger at his face before smiling broadly. When she's done with him, he'll be able to even trick her! This is Shuuken's promise! She darts a hand out to clasp at Jilan's shoulder and squeeze it.

He will be the trickiest scholar to ever live!

He squeaks a little and shies away as she invades his personal space, but can't really go too far since he's sitting in a chair. Not that being touched in particular bothers Jilan - sometimes he wonders why the Porcelain of the Silver World are like they are about physical contact - but everything about the Princess just seems so sudden and he cannot seem to quite get used to it sweatdrop

But the little scholar promises he can try to teach her what he knows, too, if she wants to know more about magic and all that. ... He will just need to get to a better understanding of it himself, first.

The boy giggles at a stray thought of himself dressed in black, rappelling down the outside of a library under cover of night to slip in unnoticed through an open window to gather all sorts of exciting and forbidden knowledge....

And then maybe he could make Shuuken like... the most... magical... princess ever?

Shuuken pauses at Jilan's playful words, her smile fading as she looks to the ground. She is silent for long moments as she seems to contemplate his words before shaking her head.

Shuuken never wanted to be a princess. Shuuken always preferred running outside, waging fake wars and protecting the kids who got bullied. Shuuken never liked the idea of being something so lofty--it seemed so foreign to who she was, despite how her tutors attempted to groom her.

Shuuken moves her hand from Jilan's shoulder to settle on her knee as she watches the floor, the fiery Bandit King for once mild. She closes her eyes, seeming to focus on some long-forgotten memory before she swallows back some overwhelming emotion.

.. Shuuken... Shuuken wishes she had been better. Shuuken wishes she had been a princess to help her people rather than playing. Maybe things would be different if...

Jilan seems almost more surprised by the girl's sudden show of emotion than by how she had grabbed him before. He stares at Shuuken for a moment, his mouth hanging open a little as he wonders what to tell her, but then settles for just projecting his reassurance.

What could have she have done in the Golden World? Not that Jilan doubts Princess Shuuken, but it really looks to him like whatever is going on in the Golden World is bigger than she is. It's bigger than High Priest Kouyo, as well, and even Setsushi, which is pretty darn big. Princess Shuuken still has lots of energy, though - Jilan thinks she should put it towards figuring out what to do next, since what's done is done. Princess Shuuken needs to get to the Silver Empress, remember?

The boy is quiet for another moment, then gently offers his friend her steaming teacup.

And Shuuken's eyes open and Jilan would see the beginnings of tears in them. She seems to have forgotten her own misery, however, and stares at the old youth with an expression of surprise. She slowly takes the tea cup and brings it to her lips, a smile crossing along them.

... Jilan says he is not brave, and maybe he isn't. He is, however, reliable, and that is perhaps better than bravery. As she speaks, happiness and warmth wafts off of the princess as her face seems to glow--she looks more than pleased at this point.

At seeing the Princess's tears, the boy wonders for a moment if he said something wrong. And he starts to apologize, because really, he has no ties to the Golden World; he has no idea what is happening, how Shuuken and the High Priest and all the Knights arrived here, but does not want to sound like he does not care about what is happening there. That is part of why he is studying here now - to help his own kind. Because what good is being the sneakiest Porcelain scholar if he cannot use his knowledge?

The scholar smiles faintly as Shuuken praises him, though, and stuffs more dried fruit into his mouth to make an excuse to hide his faint blush. Really, the Princess Shuuken is too kind to him.

... Can she be extra-kind and pass him the library book, please? >.>;;

Shuuken blinks once before looking at the book. With a mouthful of dried fruit, she hands it over to him as she chomps at it noisily.

Shuuken is always extra-kind! Jilan did not even need to ask! Anyway, it's better for Jilan to have it. He's the one who will be the best at deciphering the book; Shuuken will play second fiddle to him for now and be his research assistant!

Of course, if there's ever a battle, she expects him to take the role of her Squire! Shuuken's hand moves to grab Jilan's shoulder and shake him affectionately as she laughs both psychically and physically.

"Ohohohoho!" laughs Shuuken, shaking away all of the unpleasant memories and regrets; there's no need for them.

A bright future is ahead.

The boy drops a couple bits of dried fruit as he is shaken, and picks them up off of his robes and the floor to stuff them quickly into his mouth.

Jilan is, um, not so sure about battles just yet sweatdrop Princess Shuuken might have to help him with that especially the brave part. But, uh, he will try?
