Deeper and deeper into the earth he was progressing. Where he was only seen from waist up, now, only the top of Shinratsu's head was seen. There was occasional hammering too from inside the hole: widening the sides of the hole into a trench with the flat side of the spade, and then all the while making the hole deeper.

Occasionally, Shin felt a stirring presence watch over him... Probably Yokou with her doujutsu, judging from the slight chuckle of amusement that followed. Did he really look that ridiculous? But he had to admit...it was almost...nice hearing her laugh. Every once a while, a considerable shower of dirt would geyser out from the trench, piled up next to it. Shinratsu would occasionally stop to freeze the sides of the trench, for stabilization purposes. The last thing he needed was to be buried alive, and then being rescued by Yokou and Giglamesh in that manner...

Now, that would certainly make humiliation complete.

He didn't exactly remember the suggested dimensions on that paper Zephyr was waving in his face earlier, as semi-annoyed...he didn't even take a look at it. Shinratsu racked his head. What did the Hokage say? Seven...seven... No! It wasn't seven. It was ten or more...the capability to hold ten or more boulders... Shinratsu looked up, towards the top of the trench.

Judging from the size of the boulders earlier...this trench would current be able to hold eight...four on each side. He should keep digging until reach five on each side, before worrying about finalizations to the stabilizing process.

"Whoa!" Shinratsu winced, and lost his footing, as something akin to a distant earthquake violently shook his trench. Surprisingly, on the upper level, he thought he heard Yokou swear. Hm... Shin tried to decide if his position in the ground was critical area or not. He would bet anything that the cause of the Hyuuga queen's dismay was none other than Senju Zephyr. Good thing he suspected something akin to this level might happen earlier on... He mused, observing the frozen sides of the trench.

"Shin! Just stop when the trench hits standard - there is no need to do more than that, do you understand?"

From below, Shin had to cup his hands over his mouth, to amplify his soft voice upwards. "Why? Is something the matter?"

Oh, something was the matter alright.

"Yes, thanks to a certain idiot..." Yokou muttered as she glared at the rather fragile seeming mountain face. "This whole side of the mountain won't endure much longer..." But wait...if Shin could...this trench could stop the surely incoming avalanche... However, was it even deep enough...? "Hurry up with the tunneling!"

Hurry up with the tunneling...? What was he, a mole? The veinpop at his temple however, Shin had to suppress...as now hestared at the solid bedrock below his shovel. He raised his shovel and crashed it against the surface. Yep. Solid.

Darn.

It was one of those rare moments in life, when Shinratsu panics. And now really...he was... From Yokou's tone...something not that great is occurring on ground level too. And now, he's stuck with this dilemma! Shinratsu pressed a hand against his face, not caring that his muddy hands made a print against his forehead. Think, think! What good would his intelligence do him, if he could not use it now? He took a few deep breaths. In...out... He must think clearly...with a calm mind. Anxiety would impair judgement.

What will be the quickest way to dig past this bedrock?

Water! Shinratsu thought. There would certainly be underground water below this vein! Mountains especially will have a layer of semi-porus rock, where rain water would seep through and collect in an underground spring. In other words...there would always be traces of water among the rock. Shinratsu ripped off his gauntlets, placing his palms against the surface of the rock. Power of the tundra...seep through... He channeled his Hyouton chakra, allowing it to seep through the rock. Once it finds and connects with droplets of ground water.

Criiik.

The sounds of ice shards forming...promising. Shinratsu held the technique for as long as he could, until he could almost swear that the surface of the rocky layer was emitting cold. Taking his shovel then, he smashed it into the rock.

To his relief, it shattered.

"Hey mole boy....pick it up.....you want to protect those important to you dont you?" Giglamesh thought that could bring up some encouragement He was nearly finished he just needed a little bit further to go. Giglamesh raised his head, he heard it even more clearly than youko, it was a fissure coming from the mountains peak. "Dam badger!" Giglamesh seemed to be crazy talking about a badger, but he was referring to the thing at the mountains digging for....well who knows what, it was just making large stone balls and throwing them down the cliff side. Each time it threw another the impact at the bottom was sending a fissure back to the top of the mountain peak. Giglamesh would here that eerie slow creeping crack, like the noise of a slowly snapping bone, untill finally it snaps. Well that snap didn't seem to far off.

He was thinking and didnt notice another rock coming down the hill and he was concentrating on the cracking in the distance. When he did suddenly realize how close it was giglamesh would he would in fast nearly instantaneous move, he would unsheathe kuroisan from his left side draw it back and literally jump trusting the blade at the rock it was his Hangetsugata: Myou kiwa sattou. It had such power the entire blade and his arm were inside of the rock before the damage would finally disperse exploding the rock outwards awasy from shin the hole and youko. Then with a quick twirl flingin the dirt off before slideing it back in to its sheathe.

Completed... Shin breathed heavily. And in absolutely fatigue. He sank to the ground, at this point not caring that he was dirtying his clothes further. There was a clamor above ground, but in this moment, he could barely care. Stabilization, wait...he needs to stabilize the last part of the trench...

To his surprise...from the walls of the trench...roots...? Then...a wood clone formed and split itself from the roots, before it grasped him and channeling chakra to its feet, jump into the open air. So...tired... Shinratsu was too fatigued to resist. Not so far off, another wooden clone...Shin recognized as Zephyr's this time, was holding back a furious Yokou, telling her it was alright.

The surrounding field was a mess, chakra enhanced wooden spears having impaled through numerous boulders of rock, leaving a wasteland of rocky fragments of all sizes. And then Shin saw the state of the mountain face.

It's going to break!

And break it did - the whole side of the mountain came crashing down...and stopped. Countless trees...a whole forest had appeared...

Fortunately, Zephyr had managed to trap the other boulders with the prison of tree giants summoned from his woodland Jutsu. Ten large ones had already crashed into Shin's trench and filled it. "Too close..." The Senju breathed.

So he had come for Yokou and Shin, after being (accidentally) responsible for the destruction of the mountain side. Shikamori, dragged by one arm...was unconscious? Just how the heck did they get down here so quickly anyways? Oh wait.

Right. The rockslide. Anyways, Yokou wouldn't want to know the details.

"Ehhh..." Zephyr stared at the new mountain face, looking a little guilty (expression: =_='' )...as the mountain face currently looked like a giant sausage. "Well, at least the avalanche on this side was stopped... And you know, boy, that was one dastardly attempt at trenching..." He had a point. The ten boulders Shin's hard-worked trench now held...was barely even a quarter of the rockslide that just occurred.

"You mean..." A veinpop appeared on Shin's temple. "You knew this won't work from the start?" And then...Shin collapsed. Yokou caught him. He was exhausted, after all. And fairly furious at Zephyr too. A trench that had nearly cost him his skin and much time...that b*****d could do it in a heartbeat! And Gig witnessed him digging!

The humiliation!

((Hmm you are correct Proto. Nice trench!))

Amaya's joined fists crashed into the boulder shattering the rock into many smaller pieces that continued to tumble harmlessly down the mountain side. She was still only flesh and bone so the impact had left both hands tingling. She gave her fingers a bit of a wiggle and cracked her knuckles in anticipation of the next boulder that was sure to come. This time probably wouldn't be as simple as the last. And as if nature itself had read her mind, the next hunk of earth to come barreling towards her looked just as tough as the first, only it was moving faster. A single strike wasn't going to be enough to stop it.

Bracing herself, Amaya hurried forward using her own momentum and body weight to shove her shoulder against the boulder to make an impact and slow it down. Then she tightened her fists and pounded each one into the same spot that her shoulder had made the initial hit.

Raisuke had an angry look on his face. This place was now his home. People had fought and died to keep other ninja from destroying this village in the past. If he learned one thing when he was in school here, it was that the ninja of the stone had heart. He may not have been born here, be he was property of this village right now. He had to act as axe and shield in protecting it. Even from simple rocks. He would draw his right arm back as he was in this freefall. Coming down on the rock with power, he would attempt to shatter it. As his fist came down atop of the boulder it went into it. His arm becoming stuck. His eyes would widen slightly. What was he going to do now, with his arm stuck in the damned thing?

The rock had started to roll with his arm stuck in it. He would roll him completely over, but just before he would hit the ground, he would thrust a knee into it. Causing it to crumble, but one of the pieces falling to smack him in the forehead. He would hold it for just a second, in pain. But he wouldn't have much time. He would roll down that hill a little to avoid being trampled by the next rock.

After three solid hits to a single weak point, the rushing boulder broke apart into smaller chunks all around her. Amaya, leaned over, using her hands to help her slow her own sliding momentum down the side of the mountain. a cloud of ust rose around her as she came to a hault and she coughed a few good times. Standing back to her full height, she waved the dusty air from her face and proceeded to walk back up the mountain to a place where she could get in some solid footing. Using her body to slow the rocks down seemed like a good first move to make with any of them. They weren't as hard to smash when they weren't moving so damn fast. Gotta be careful though...don't want to bust my shoulder up. She considered. Just then another boulder made itself known in the distance and was closing the gap between it and her quickly. Amaya crouched low at the ready, much like one would see a linebacker take stance, then rushed forward.

The two slammed into one another with a resounding crunch and Amaya instantly knew that she was going to have a large and unsightly bruise on her shoulder later. Dust kicked up from the bottom of her sandals as she forced her own strength against that of gravity. Or could that actually have been smoke from the friction of her sliding soles against the terrain? The boulder seemed to be slowing some, but she wouldn't be able to hold it for long. This was one of those odd moments where she wished she had a suit of light armor stashed away for certain special occasions. Or maybe just a pair of metal knuckles. Oh yes, that would definitely do the trick. But alas, she was going to have to do her best with what she had. And right now it was her bare hands. Keeping her left shoulder low against the sliding rock, Amaya used her right hand to form a tight fist and pound into the stone.

A loud crash echoed along the mountain side as Amaya's fist impacted the boulder. There was hardly anything left of it once the huge dust cloud around her dissipated. Again she wiggled each of her fingers and gave her hands and wrists a good stretch. She also took a moment to rotate her left shoulder. The tension building up in it was noticeable, but she would deal with it later. Right now she had a job to finish.

Her eyes narrowed aggressively at the next wave of boulders. They were simply rolling along as if they had not a care in the world. As if they didn't mind crushing any and all who stood in their path or the village that rested at the foot of the mountain. The young gennin set her sights on the one gaining the quickest on her. She was going to have to act fast this time. There wasn't much of a window of time between it and the one following. So she began her run up the mountain for a rendezvous with the boulder favoring her left side. She cut a path straight before arching her trajectory into a curve. Leaping into the air, she came down with a thrust knee into the top of the boulder at an angle.

Another deep echo rumbled along the mountain side under the pressure of her knee, the boulder crumbling to harmless pebble-sized chunks. She braced herself, landing in a tumble before rolling back onto her feet and racing off to meet the next boulder. She broke out into a sprint, hoping to catch it before it rolled past her, but it didn't look as if she was going to make it. And to make matters worse, the boulder had suddenly hit a sharp rock protruding from the mountain side and pitched into the air a few feet past her own height. "Damn." Putting all she had into her legs, Amaya surged forward watching as the large hunk of stone began to descend back towards the ground. It looked like that "leap" it had made bought her a little bit of the time she needed to catch up. THere was a small problem however. The boulder was going to land right on top of her. Gritting her teeth, Amaya crossed her forearms in front of her head, much like she would do with her dual blades, prepared to strike at the moment of impact.

Unfortunately, it would be the boulders turn to do the pummeling, slamming into her as if she weren't even there. A small piece of it broke off, but otherwise, it kept rolling. She sat up slowly once it had passed, giving her head a shake or two to clear her vision. Luckily she hadn't broken anything, but she did have a fresh gash on her forehead to add to the collection of smaller cuts and scraps she had acquired so far during this battle against nature.

Eventually she got back up onto her feet, setting her gaze down the mountain side. Her eyes then widened at the sight of the boulder rampaging its way off towards the village. If she had a hard time catching up to it before, chasing it down would be nearly impossible now. She needed a fast way down the mountain. Looking around her quickly an idea came to her as her eyes locked onto a rather flat slab of stone ahead of her. Amaya took off running once again then jumped, landing onto the flat slab of stone, her momentum causing it to slide along the mountain side. On first go, it wasn't moving too great, but as gravity pulled it along she began to slide much faster than she could ever run. And much to her favor, the boulder seemed to have hit an odd crevice in the terrain up ahead of her, stopping it from moving straight. But it was leaning it's way to fall around the edge of that crevice in a matter of seconds.

Amaya lowered her upper body, carefully shifting her weight to turn her sliding path as she gained on the stalled rock. She then jumped from the sliding slab with her fists clasped, just they way she had struck her first boulder, and slammed them into the rock before it could go anywhere else.

((Ha. Probably breaking all kinds of laws of physics, but Carlos said to have fun cool . Go rock surfing.))

Her joined fists forced themselves through the boulder and a series of multiple cracks scattered along the rocks surface, halting its movement. "Oh for cryin out loud..." she complained. The strike should have blasted the rock into pieces, but it looked as if one last swack would get the job done. So she simply poked it and the boulder finally cracked apart into little dirt hunks.

Amaya dusted her hands off once the stubborn boulder had finally fallen, only to turn towards the mountain ascent to see more boulders making their way down. She released a deep shoulder slumping sigh, only to lift her head back up and hurry off towards the rolling stones. The first one closest to her wasn't as large as it predecessors, but she wan't about to take it lightly. Leaping into the air, Amaya executed a front flip, slamming her foot down into the top of it with an axe kick.
