Zara's playful antics surprised a laugh from the stallion. There was always a time and place for chivalry and oldworld manners, as his parents had called them, and more often than not those particular times and places caused a severe strain on the flutter. Demanding he follow them perfectly and to the letter all the time. Such restrictions, even when his family was no longer around to enforce them, made the stallion chafe and eager to get rid of that mask.

But somehow, being around the playful mare made it all too easy to fall into the role of oldworld gentleman, at once an act and the central truth of who he was. His bright laughter rang overly loud through the cave, echoing and returning. He winced slightly and hoped it would die down sooner rather than later.

As she brushed past him, Laures turned quickly to follow. Not wanting to miss anything, and just to be there in case of any accidents.

"I can't pretend to truly understand, though I can imagine." Laures murmured in answer. The image of a raccoon grooming the unicorn at once amusing and fitting. He turned to consider his tail which he was proud of. It fell in silky waves to reach the ground underneath his hooves when he was full-sized and was a true tripping hazard. "Maybe I sould do something about this tail of mine."

He mused, and even though the ice started to give way the further into the cave they walked Laures tripped, tumbling over the very tail he had just been considering getting rid of.

Though the stallion that walked beside her had not been graced (or cursed in certain scenarios) with as long of waves of hair as she, he still had to know some of the hazards. Though he might not step on his mane, on gusty days he had to know of how tangled and wretched even his own mane could be! And his lovely green tail was certainly longer than her own blue tufts. At least she could wrap hers delicately around her leg, or keep it partially lifted so as not to drag. . . .

"As lovely as your tail is," she quipped with a grin, "when walking in a cave of ice - - -!" Zara jerked forward as the flutter walker slightly behind her tripped as well! She instantly whirled around, concern written first on her face before her features lighted in to a good humored smile. "Are you quite alright?" She questioned, canting her head and giving him a look over. The problem with ice was how slippery it was, and all they needed was to acquire bumps, bruises or twisted ankles. . . .

"Though the danger here isn't great," she murmured in his ear, "it seems this cave wants to give us some battle scars." Giggling softly, Zara waited for the stallion to recapture his footing and pick up any wounded pride he may have suffered.

"I'll send over my raccoon to braid up your tail, my good sir," she winked, bemused by two grown soquili tripping and falling over themselves. "Our great beauty must come at a price, I fear. . . and making enemies with the ice seems to be it!"

Surely the Fates were laughing at him. First they place him on the path to meet this lovely mare that was very much like to him, a kindred soul of sorts that would encourage him to break the shell of apathy that had slowly surrounded him, choking the zest for life he was known for, and just when he found himself enjoying the day, he was cursed to make a fool of himself. Something he had not done in a long time. Being his father's son- albeit unwanted- there were standards to follow and certain traits that needed to be discarded, foolishness, pride and vanity among them.

It was funny and ironic he went down at the time he had. And despite his bruised ego, he had to laugh at himself and the predicament he currently found himself in. Carefully craning his neck, Laures tried the lip the strands of his tail out of the way that entwined around his legs, so hopefully he could get to his hooves without further mishap. Trying hard not imagine what a sight he must seem.

"That tears it. The tail has got to go," Laures muttered to himself as he managed to stand up. He tested his legs gingerly, one after another to make sure they were okay. "Aside from bruised pride, I think I'll be alright. That's not killed anyone yet, I don't believe."

He was greatful for his companion's good humour as it served to lift his own spirits some. Zara's words definately rang true. The cave certainly did seem to be bound and determined that they not walk away unscathed, after all they had been fighting to keep their footing almost since they had entered the cave, which led him to believe that there was something truly magnificent somewhere deep within. Why else would the cave be so determined?

"I feel well enough to continue on, if that is the lady's will, or to turn back if we must." He held his breath. He would leave the cave and any potential treasures to accompany Zara, but not without some regret. If he didn't find out now, there would not be another chance to do so for a long while, but he was not yet ready to part ways and go back to being alone.

The mare smiled gently down upon the flutter, doing her best to hide the humor in her gaze. She didn't want the stallion to think she was laughing at his plight, especially when he could have been hurt, but the entire situation was amusing; here they were, intruding upon the ice cave's secrets and yet they could hardly go more than a few paces before their feet slipped out from under them.

"Awww, tis a shame though," she added contritely, moving back so the stallion had room to rise. "Who would have thought such a pretty tail would be the source of so much trouble this day?" Though her own plume of a tail was lengthy, the mare had the ability to actually lift it high enough to keep it away from her hooves and off the ground. A shame that her mane wasn't quite so easy to contain. . .

Seeing that her new companion had rose without injury, the pink hued mare was quite eager to continue. Her imagination was already running wild with curiosity, having never walked so deep and not knowing what they might find. So long as they could fit through the icy passage ways, they were surely in for a treat! "Ah, my fine sir, I am quite willing to continue. A few slips here and there aren't enough to keep us away from unraveling such a mystery!" Eyes sparkling amidst the cavern, the mare made sure to continue forward. But unlike last time, she stayed close to the flutter male, hoping that perhaps together they might be able to keep one another from tripping and stumbling

"With luck we'll get the hang of this ice walking. . . " Zara added with a grin, unaccustomed to being without such control. Every movement the mare made was usually one of grace and ease. . . but the ice against her cloven hooves really made things that much more difficult for the mare. It was incredibly frustrating, but the beauty and good company surrounding her kept her complaints in check.

With minimal mishap, the flutter managed to regain his footing. Trying to hide a sigh of relief, he turned to look at the tail which caused the tumble with a glare that should have melted the ice around them. His cheeks were stained a darker hue with his embaressment, even after he laughed off the fall, wondering if perhaps this was such a good idea, knowing that bruised ego could be the least of their worries. In a corner of his mind he also wondered if his face would be permanently stained. With the way this day was going (if only in certain moments which were far too frequent for his liking) he concluded it was probably very likely.

At the obvious enthusiasm and the bright shine in the mare's eyes, Laures managed to shove his doubts and concerns into the back of his mind. They would unravel the cave's mysteries, and they would get the hang of this ice-walking thing. He had to believe that, he couldn't accept less.

He nodded emphatically his agreement with Zara's last statement. Luck, they could definately use some of that, but he wouldn't wait around for it to come.

One hoof in front of the other, he took a few cautious steps, making sure to place them on the slick surface of the ice carefully so as not to give a repeat performance. A few tentative steps, and no falls later, he was ready to continue onward.

"Let's continue on our way." With any real luck, the few bruises already acquired would be the last!

The mare was pleased that the tumble of the stallion wasn't enough to sway his resolve. This cave was full of beauty and intrigue; a mystery they would fast unravel itself all in due time. Perhaps they would find nothing more than ice and slush; then again, perhaps there was more than just beauty. . . . Perhaps there were more caverns, twists and turns. . . Zara's mind couldn't help but race as she wondered what others may have discovered within the ice-cave; were there explorers of old who left treasure or perhaps they took comfort during the bleakest of winters. Gypsies like her mother whom saw the sights and moved from cave to cave, leaving stories and treasure with the locals. . . .

Not likely, the logical part of her mind understood but still fun to think about nonetheless! If Laures and her had made this discovery then what other creatures long before their time had too? "I wonder who else has conquered this gave," she mused, stealing a sidelong glance at her winged companion. "Mind, my mother and sister admired the entrance but never were we allowed to further explore. We're discovering a whole new world, you realize. . ." She grinned, amused by the days adventure. It was strangely something her sister might have come up with; meeting a handsome stranger, now caught on an adventure in an ice cave. . . Perhaps the only thing missing was drama and a romantically sweet ending!

Ah, but surely the fates wouldn't be so willing. One couldn't have it all, at any rate, and there was no need for the mare to be so selfish or nit-picky with adventure. Step by step, the mare traveled, careful where she stepped and doing her best not to trip and fall.

((Sorry for a lack of nothing happening thus far. . .I'm not really sure where to take 'em. xD If you have any ideas, feel free to let 'em happen! I'm lost at the moment on where to bring them to. >: ))

Each step further into the cave, the floor grew drier, steadier. Laures heaved a sigh of relief at the, knowing that there was less likely to be accidents on firm ground, unless it was through their own clumsiness.

Eyes flicking back and forth, Laures tried to take in the sight of the wonders all around while pinpointing rock formations and plant life that could be used as a reference, in hopes that they didn't get lost but to be prepared if in fact they did. He also tried to maintain a steady stream of conversation with Zara, trying to show he wasn't ignoring her, and in part to enjoy her company, and to fill the hushed silence surrounding them that was making him uncomfortable.

Slowly he acclimated to what seemed at first like silence, but he grew to hear and recognise as sounds of the cave itself. Hidden behind the echo of their voices, was the steady sound of water dripping from the ceiling of the cave. And a distant rumble that he couldn't place.

Wings fluttering in his excitment, he would point out what were to him interesting formations, colors and shapes, asking the mare her opinion and listening to her when she did the same.

A significant amount of time and passages later... the hushed tones he'd used since first entering the cave slowly gave way to the louder tones of his normal level of voice. Not noticing the ominous rumbling growing louder.
