Watching Jonquil fall was scary for Tsuki only because she dreaded him also getting hurt! When she finally saw his facial expression and heard him laugh, a large "Whoo!" escaped her mouth. She would have hated to see her friendly companion wounded somehow. So thank goodness that he was going to be just fine!

Just as she was about to speak, she watched him struggle to get up, and she wondered how she could help. Was getting up usually the hard part? Well, skating in itself was difficult! Anyone could have admitted to that. "I wouldn't say that I'm a natural, I'm almost positive that another fall will occur in the future." As for her balance, she had done tons of training to deal with that. "I used to balance myself on logs since my father would make us compete against each other." And thankfully, she always won. Most of that had to do with her siblings giving up, though.

After many moments of consideration, Tsuki finally bobbed her head and focused on her task at hand. "Ok, I think I've thought of a way to help out!" She then lowered her neck then and examined the position that Jonquil was in. "If you lift your neck up you can use mine to help you balance?" Lucky for Jonquil, Tsuki was plenty strong. She could help a comrade out, even if he was a tad bigger then her.

"And you know, if we fall again, well, then we'll have to think of yet another way to get up!' she then lowered her neck near his and awaited whatever he chose to do. Either way, she was having a blast. Not for that fact that they were skating, but just for the fact that she was getting along with someone and having fun!

From his vantage point on the ice, Jonquil could see that Tsuki's frame was indeed very fit and compact. It wasn't difficult for him to imagine her training with her siblings, though the brief mental image of Soquili balancing on logs was a rather wild one for him. Still, if Tsuki said it had happened, he was sure it was; she was much too frank and honest to make up stories, especially about something that seemed to take as seriously as her training.

It was funny how he'd barely known her a morning, but he felt like he had a good grasp on her personality. Sometimes, regardless of time, a connection was made. He liked to think that it was so with Tsuki.

Ears flicking toward her, he watched as she lowered her neck and prepared to help him up. Not a sexist being by any means, Jonquil fully appreciated the strength of mares, and in a case such as this, he was grateful that she offered. Elsewise, he likely would have ended up scooting over to the snowy bank, as he often had alone, and trying again from there.

Without hesitation, he replied, "Thank you." and hooked his neck over hers, aligning his own center of balance with the aid of Tsuki as an anchor.

It was a little shaky, but he was careful not to lean too much on her, not wanting to risk her own balance. From what she'd said, though, it was likely he was the one who was in greater danger of falling down again.

He rose to his feet as carefully as he could, and once there, exhaled softly into her mane. Phew, he was up, and they had both survived the trip.

Drawing back a bit, he nudged her neck with his nose, smiling. "Thanks again. That was much easier than my other method."

When they were both up and standing Tsuki let out a sigh of relief that she had done something good for once. She had no idea that her plan would actually work! She just sort of went with a spontaneous idea, and that was a first timer for her. She usually had everything so planned and organized, but today was obviously much different. But it was a good different!

"I'm glad I could be of help." she then said, while grinning and bowing her head lightly. She then eyed the ice around her hooves and contemplated watching her step. If she wasn't careful she'd probably fall on her bum again.

"Shall we brave the ice some more?" She wasn't sure what that stallion's plan for the day was, but she was in no rush herself. "I was hoping I could get to know you more!" Usually she was begging for a conversation to be over, but the thought of leaving at this moment was upsetting. There was still more to do and discuss, and plus...

"I think you might be my first friend." she then said, rather randomly. "It's probably strange to admit that, but I'm too honest." she shrugged then and flicked her tail as a natural response. Why should she lie, anyways? Jonquil would probably see through anything she tried make up.

Either way, Jonquil could interpret her personality however he wanted. From how their interaction was going, Tsuki thought that they were getting along very well. Unfortunately, she wasn't the most experienced on these sorts of things! "That is, if you don't mind being my friend."

On his feet again, Jonquil listened to Tsuki with a half-smile on his face. He was attentive, but not because it was a chore; he found the more she spoke the more he wanted to get to know her, and her honesty charmed him. It wasn't often he met a Soquili as blunt and true as Tsuki, and it was refreshing. He would never have to wonder where he stood with her, because she wouldn't hide it. Who wouldn't want a friend like that in their life?

When she mentioned as much, his smile widened. Her first friend? He was honored.

"I would love to be your friend, Tsuki, and to get to know each other better. To tell you the truth, I don't have many myself." It wasn't because he disliked others or didn't try, it was rather that he rarely made the kind of fast connection that he had with Tsuki.

When he'd been a colt, he'd been more introspective and less lively than his brother, so making friends had been more difficult. At the time, he'd felt that all he needed was Tobias, so there really hadn't been incentive to make friends. In his adulthood, he had also been a bit of a loner; while adventuring with others was fun, he was also equally comfortable with his solitude. Lately he'd come to think it was time to change that, and here was the perfect opportunity.

He would be a good friend to Tsuki, and he would have someone he could seek out regularly for companionship. If she wanted, anyhow.

Carefully stepping across the ice, hooves slipping a bit as he did, he positioned himself so that he could face her and it would be less awkward to converse. "And I like that you're honest. I think it's one of the things I like best about you."

He smiled, bobbing his head toward her cheerfully. "Though I like a lot of things about you already."

Her heart melting was a feeling she'd never experienced before. At this very moment she felt warm and fuzzy, and somewhat overheated. It was completely uncomfortable and yet she didn't want the feeling to ever go away! How strange, what was this feeling? Should she worry? Was she sick or something?

"I'm so happy you approve!" she finally said, to break herself of focusing too much on her thoughts. "And I'll do my best to be a great friend for you too." For once in her life she felt wanted, and it wasn't because of her strength or abilities. In truth she hated training, it was so lonely and painful. If Jonquil accepted her for the way she really was, then maybe others would too.

"Already you've taught me so much about myself, it's kind of embarrassing." she watched him with gentle eyes and blinked every now and then to look nice and natural. "I've never really taken the time to be myself, but I feel comfortable enough to do that around you."

It might have been that in her youth she didn't have the confidence to choose to live how she wanted, but whatever it was, she hardly cared anymore. Living in itself was a gift, and she should embrace moments like this, rather then worry about what she did wrong in her past. The past was over, anyways! All she had was a future to embrace and make for herself.

"Well you should know that there is a lot I like about you as well." she wondered if that sounded funny, and if she should be more careful with her words. Ah well, if Jonquil had admitted it then she felt every right to tell him the truth back! "Your a good stallion, Jonquil. Every time you speak I can sense how big your heart is!"

It was rare for Jonquil to be embarrassed, but Tsuki's last comment struck him in a way that he hadn't expected. While he was open and very giving with compliments, believing that others should be reminded of the good things about them just as often, if not more often, than their faults, it was rare that he met another who felt the same way. Rarer still to meet someone so honest and direct as Tsuki, who would speak her mind even if she wasn't sure it was the right thing to do.

The move spoke of confidence and security in oneself, something that Jonquil found very appealing. It made it mean more when she praised him, and though he'd never actively sought the approval of another before, something made him want to with Tsuki.

Of course, he wasn't adept with dealing with embarrassment, and so he was at a loss for words for a moment. When he did speak, it was with a little bit of shyness to his tone. "Thank you, Tsuki. You're already a great friend, so I'm sure things will only get better."

What was this, anyway? He wasn't used to feeling awkward, but then, the conversation wasn't normally on him, was it? He preferred talking about others, and while it was easy for him to hand out compliments, he rarely had to deal with receiving them. After all, it seemed much easier for most to accept compliments than otherwise, though the opposite was true for him!

He was distracted enough, and just a bit flustered, that he took a step without thinking about the consequences. He remembered at the last second that he was on ice, but it was too late - he'd taken no care, and went into a spin, looking startled as he did so. It didn't last very long, though.

Landing in a pile of snow with a grunt, he sat for a moment, a little dazed, while snow billowed around. Well, that had just been... hmph.

Head popping up, snow all over his face and on his eyelashes, he said sheepishly, "Whoops. Lost my footing."

It seemed the moment was a bit too much for either of them to take in, so when Jonquil became distracted Tsuki could only wisp her eyes forward and watch yet another painful scene unfold in front of her. From her perspective Jonquil had taken quite a fall, and she inched forward across the ice when she saw his snow-covered face. His voice was a reassurance that everything was alright, but she still felt bad for him for taking such a fall! He'd be full of bruises in the morning.

"Maybe we should move off the ice for now?" she said while finally making her way towards Jonquil and the snow. The image of snow all over his face was... humorous, but Tsuki kept in any urges to laugh or giggle. It wasn't like he meant to land in the snow, so she could relate to the shock of it all! "Here, shake your head out so you can see better!" she then demonstrated in hopes that the snow wouldn't make Jonquil too cold or anything.

Tsuki then stepped off of the ice and felt her hooves sink happily into the mushy snow. Finally, she felt sturdy again, and that was a nice feeling! Her hooves weren't sliding or anything, and she preferred her current positioning over the last one.

"There seems to be little ice where you landed, so your hooves may enjoy the cushy feeling of the ground below us." And, that probably meant that standing up wouldn't be too hard on him. Thankfully Jonquil had landed on the snow rather than the ice like before, so that was probably why he was more comfortable than the last time he had taken a fall.

When she looked towards him she noticed that more snow was still on his face. So, to make use of such an opportunity, Tsuki dug her own face into the snow, and when she lifted it she looked just like Jonquil did. "Hey, this feels kinda good!" she finally said, while grinning playfully at her just-as-snowy friend.

He hadn't felt so relaxed or, well, young, in quite a while. It wasn't as though Jonquil was old, it was just that his days of being a colt were a little ways behind him, and it wasn't often that he got to frolick these days. It was generally frowned upon unless one was playing with their own offspring, and since he had none of those, Jonquil made due with amusing himself in somewhat more dignified ways. The snow made it easy, and he had spent a few afternoons romping around in it, but it was nice to be able to play around with someone his own age and not have to explain himself.

When she buried her own face in the snow, he couldn't help it. He laughed, enjoying the contrast of the pure white snow against her vibrant orange coat. "It looks good on you. A little cold, but it does feel nice."

Amused, he leaned over, nosing some of the snow off her cheek. While the move might have seemed oddly intimate, it was natural to Jonquil with someone he liked; physical closeness was something he prized, likely inherited from his mother, a very affectionate mare.

Tail swishing behind him, he asked, "What would you like to do next? Since it seems like we've skated all our rumps can handle for the day." So saying, he snickered, remembering his own couple of falls.

She was glad he enjoyed her silliness with the snow, and when he went to nudge it off her face she was sure he noticed the immediate red that replaced her naturally orange cheeks. He may have been more comfortable with touching and feeling then she was, so Tsuki could only remain bashful throughout it all. It was something she'd probably always get embarrassed at, but that was ok. She knew that everybody had their own comfort zones. Plus, it wasn't like she was complaining! She was just learning and getting used to it all.

At his question of what they should do, Tsuki only giggled and raised her shoulders lightly. "I honestly have no good ideas, but I'm sure if we continue walking and wandering will be able to spot something."

At this point, Tsuki didn't care about what they did. She just enjoyed Jonquil's company! She could tell that he was having a fun time as well, and was thankful that he was being as open with his emotions as she was. At least she could read him easily.

"Once it gets warmer I think we'll have more fun things to do." she then added, while stomping on the snow with a light sigh. "But, the cold hasn't gotten to our spirits, so that's a good thing." Truthfully Tsuki was sick of the snow, only because she adored swimming. And right now she'd be an idiot if she hopped in the water!

"Do you think we'll be able to meet up in the future?" she looked at him directly and gulped lightly at her question. It was always so hard to find someone again, and she was worried that same sort of scenario would happen with Jonquil.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 19, 2009 1:10 am

Ears swiveling to point at Tsuki, Jonquil looked surprised. "Of course! We're friends, so I hope we'll see a lot of each other as time goes on. I don't really have any plans to leave this place, so as long as we both live here..."

He lifted one shoulder, seeming to dismiss the notion that they wouldn't meet again as if it were simply that - a notion. In truth, the thought that this would be the only instance where he would spend a day with Tsuki hadn't really crossed his mind. He enjoyed her, and she seemed to enjoy him - it seemed only natural that they would continue to spend time with one another. They'd hit it off so well during the first day that there was no telling where their friendship would lead.

It was strange, but he'd never really considered having a best friend. He had friends, certainly, but no one individual stood out as someone he would enjoy spending time with no matter the circumstances. Though he'd seen others pair themselves off in such a manner during childhood, there had always been a part of him that held back then, and still did now. Perhaps it was time to outgrow that facet of his personality and reach out a bit.

Tsuki seemed like a prime candidate for that. He wasn't sure if you were supposed to decide who your best friend was so suddenly, but then again, such things didn't tend to come with instructions. Time would tell if he was right or not.

Smiling, he bumped shoulders with her. "Let's go on a little adventure, then. We'll see where our hooves take us for the rest of the afternoon."

Jonquil seemed very confident that they would reunite again, and Tsuki wanted to believe his words entirely. But, she still was a bit awkward with trusting others for some reason. When she considered who she trusted in her life, her list was rather small. She'd never really tried to trust others, and she supposed that was probably strange.

She really only had trust towards her family members, and had never learned to acknowledge someone outside of her lineage. Did that mean she should actually try and trust someone today? Jonquil was definitely worth the effort. "Well, I trust your words, then." she finally said, while feeling a strange relief dwindle in her stomach. Her speech sounded very natural, so she was sure Jonquil wouldn't think much of it.

Maybe she always wanted to trust someone like that? Or, maybe she just felt giddy that she was confident enough to finally try? Either way, it was nice.

"As for an adventure, I'm down for that." she giggled lightly while walking besides Jonquil. It was amusing how different their body language was at this point in time. In the beginning of their meeting, Tsuki was much more closed and uncomfortable. But now, she was positioned right next to Jonquil, and wasn't acting as if that was strange.

It was amazing how easily she had opened up. If only Jonquil knew how thankful she was to him. Today was a completely new experience, and it was all thanks to her friend. If he knew how idle her life had been, he probably would have laughed! He probably would have been a bit surprised, too.

"I wish you could meet my siblings sometime. But man, I don't even know where they are. My family is always on the move, and always wandering." It was seriously annoying! "But they'd really like your energy I'm sure." As she did. Plus, it would be cool to introduce a friend to those important to her. "Well, maybe some day. For now, we have places to see, and things to discover." Yes, and she should probably stay focused?
PostPosted: Thu Feb 19, 2009 9:34 pm

Tsuki speaking of her family reminded Jonquil that he really needed to go track his own extended family tree down and see how they were doing. It had been quite a while since he'd seen them - not for any particular reason, just that their paths hadn't crossed. He missed them, and considering they all lived such varied and interesting lives, catching up was always an experience.

As he had before, he used his head to move branches out of the way for Tsuki, not even thinking about it as he did so. "I'm sure I'd like your family. They're yours, after all," he added, smiling and nudging a tree branch out of the way.

He wondered how his own would take to Tsuki. They'd like her, he decided almost instantly. Mostly just because of who she was, but also because he had an incredibly loving family who would see that he liked her and so would accept her just as she was because of that. In fact, the more he thought about it, the more he really wanted to see his mother again.

After a moment's pause, he asked, "Would you like to meet my family? They're scattered too, but fairly easy to track down if you know where to look. My mom would really like you," he added, smile softening as he thought about Luca.

Well, Jonquil may not have liked her family as much as he thought.

Her father was... strange, and her mother was even stranger. But what was worse was that her father carried a sword around, and was probably somehow scary without even showing it or speaking much. She had always respected him for that reason. He may have been bright orange in color, but he was as tough as tough could be. Kitsune might have been aggressive if she brought a new stallion around. Ugh, Tsuki was stressing even thinking about it!

As for her mother.. it would probably be hard for Jonquil to get a word out of her. She was always so spooked and afraid, and she almost never left Kitsune's eye. In truth, she never imagined anyone ever meeting her family members. Since... in the past that never seemed like a possibility! But hey, at least her siblings were hopeful in that respect. They would be nice to Jonquil at least.

So, when he spoke about her meeting his family, she decided to focus on that for now. "I'd love to meet them some time!" She was interested to meet Jonquil's mother especially.

"I definitely want to meet someone else's family, since I want to see what a normal family is like." It felt strange to admit it, but it was the truth! "Are they all purple in color like you?" she giggled at the thought and realized both of their families were easy to spot for that reason.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 05, 2009 1:00 pm

A normal family... what was a normal family, anyway? His certainly wasn't conventional. He loved them all dearly, but it was true that when you attempted to start a family, most went at it as a couple, if not lifemated, with the intention to always be together and raise your children into adulthood. His parents hadn't been like that, for reasons he couldn't explain and had never really cared to explore. Oh, it had given him something to puzzle over as a colt, but in the end, he was loved by his father and mother, and he really hadn't needed much more than that. He knew they would be there for him if he needed them, and even if they weren't the ideal picture of a family, they were still family.

His mother, though, was the best mother in all the world, if you asked him. He would cheerfully say so to anyone, even as he realized they probably thought their mothers were the best as well. She was just the absolute picture of maternal love, and he really didn't think he could ask for anything more. Why, if he ever went looking for a mate, he'd want to find one as devoted and loving as she was - even though she wasn't lifemated to her partner, he knew there was affection and trust that ran deeply between them. Most of all, he'd want a mother for his children, someone he could stand beside and know that she cared for them as much as he, perhaps more, in a way that only mothers could.

But he'd gotten sidetracked. Thinking about mates, and when Tsuki had asked him a question! Where was his head?

Turning toward her again, he mused, "I'd really like for you to meet my mother. The rest too, of course, but I'm afraid you might be a little disappointed - we aren't the most normal of families, but we are very close in the way families should be."

Tail swishing, he added, "I do believe most of the family line is purple. There's some red in there too, in my little-more-distant relatives, but purple does seem to be the defining feature."

Jonquil didn't have to worry about what was normal and whatnot! Tsuki and her kin were as strange as could be. And in truth, that never really bothered her anyways! "Who cares about normal, or standard." she finally said while lifting her nose rather playfully. "I think its nice when families have a little spice and originality. And, seeing how you turned out, I believe that your mother and relatives have done a nice job raising you and taking care of you."

From the sound of things, it'd be disappointing if any of his family were super normal!

"Well, the next time I see more purple figures in the distance, I will ask them if they are related to you. And hey, if you see some bright orange ones yourself, ask around." she chuckled lightly and knew that her family was easy to spot as well.

It was nice to bring up family every now and then. It was a way for the both of them to always remember where they came from, and remember their roots and heritage. Tsuki needed to speak of her family more, just as Jonquil had throughout their meeting. She needed to be more open about such details, since it gave her and Jonquil a great connection. She supposed there were lots of Soquili who had their own families in the land, and already she was getting more comfortable interacting about such a life detail.

A loud bird above her interrupted her thought, and she rolled her eyes to see a hawk-like figure soaring above her. My my, she shouldn't get so lost in the moment! "Ack sorry, sometimes I get so comfortable walking next to you that I tend to space out!" It's not like that was a bad thing, but it was probably uncomfortable for poor Jonquil!
