Makaa looked at her a bit suspiciously. She was hiding something, he couldn't deny it, and she couldn't hide it, not from him. She wasn't telling him everything. But then, it seemed like she was talking about someone dear to her, a sibling perhaps. And he would probably do exactly what she was if one of his siblings was in danger. And then he smiled, just a bit. "Okay, that's all I ask," he said, pawing at her nose. He tilted his head a bit, his paw falling to rest on hers. "You'll tell me someday, right?" he asked, his suspicious look changing to one of questioning.

He understood. He had to know something was wrong, but if he'd guessed it and asked, he'd have made her lie. He must have know. How was he so smart for a cub? She wondered to herself...could she keep something like this from him? No, she knew right away. Because he'd sworn to protect her, just like she'd sworn to protect Sun-Brother. Sooner or later they would all meet, and then she could only count on him being on her side.
"Of course." And this time she did let herself hug him. "Someday."

Makaa sighed when she hugged him, but let her do it, knowing from his father's words that it was a good thing to let females do that. Made them feel better. And, of course, he wasn't exactly smart, just observant. And anything he heard, he kept, a sort of mental pack-rat. "Well, good. Secrets aren't always a good thing, though sometimes I guess they're useful," he replied, patting her a bit.

Zap pulled back from the hug and yawned. All this drama had made her a little sleepy. But it was still early, and she didn't want to nap yet. "This secret's a good one. It's to protect someone." He'd understand that for sure. Once Momma came back it'd be okay to tell, she decided.

Makaa watched her yawn a bit, thinking it quite cute, actually. He smiled a bit, nodding in acceptance of her agreement. "You can close your eyes for a bit, if you want. I can keep an eye out," he said and even gestured to the crevice between the rocks where they had dropped the sky piece that one time. It was shady there, and mostly hidden. The perfect place to take a little nap.

The offer was tempting, so tempting. The shade was cool and inviting. "Well, maybe just for a little..." She heaved herself up off of Makaa and slipped between the rocks, turning around to peek out at Makaa. She offered him a smile (that was interrupted by yet another yawn) before curling in the grasses beneath the rocks. "Much comfier than stone..." She mumbled.

Makaa followed her and curled up around her, resting his head on her shoulders, watching the sands outside of their hiding spot. "Mmhmm," he hummed back and let his eyes droop a bit. He wasn't tired, but there was no reason he couldn't let his eyes adjust to the dimness of the shade. "Go ahead and get some rest," he told her, a small smile reflected in his voice.

Zap let herself sink further into the grass. Mmm, even without the sun she was warm. Thanks to Makaa. "Thanks." She sighed. Today had been a long day already, and it wasn't even noon.
End.
