Books to Movies
Books to Movies
Most movies are better explained, at least, when the books that they are based on are read. However, some movies do not give proper respects to the books they are basing themselves off of ( like Lord of the Rings or Pride and Prejudice) because the authors wrote specifically for the intended use of printed material, in which the thought of the character(s) and different twists of the plotline (from many different perspectives) can be shown. However, move that material into film and there's so much lost. One losses a friend that one gained through the book. The movies also don't have that heart-to-heart connection that the author imbues to the reader. There's only so much a movie can do for a novel, the rest being covered up with special effects and whatnot. There are movies that are great and based off of books (of which I cannot think an example) but generally, at least in my opinion, the book-based movies are a lot worse than the movies that come out by themselves (or based off of T.V. shows).
One thing I hate about the book-to-movie change is the fact that many of the good quotes are given to the 'main characters' of the book but are meant to be for the other characters. I mean, going along with Lord of the Rings, if I remember correctly, it's Pippin who figures out the riddle to open up the Elvish-Dwarven door { movie 1, inlaid with a silver that reflects moonlight and starlight only }. It's not Frodo! ...give Pip the respect he deserves as a character.... v.v
Power to the many characters of books, and not to the spotlight-hogging main characters of the movies.
