But what circumstances could have allowed for such a pairing --
A look of realization slowly spreads over Setsushi's face, followed by a brow slightly angled in anger. "Ranko," he murmurs.
... But after a moment, he rises and walks over behind Kouyo, to gently rub his shoulders. Setsushi believes he understands more now... It is truly a tragic fate Kouyo has trapped himself in. But Setsushi will do as he promised, and he will do everything in his power to reunite Kouyo with his wife... and, if it is even possible, convince her to love her husband as a Porcelain wife would.
"It is too soon to think about death," he says quietly.

Kouyo nods at the name, though he remains curled up with his face buried in his blanket.
He continues to cry as Setsushi rubs his shoulders, but it is now mostly out of relief. His whole body still trembles occasionally with anxiety as part of him wishes he could take it all back - Kouyo does not completely hide his fear at just how his friendship with Setsushi has inevitably changed. But... he still trusts his friend's words, and thanks the Knight again and again for not hating him.
When he has finally regained some of his composure several minutes later, the High Priest raises his head a little and tells Setsushi softly, "This little bird is more than happy to be Setsushi's Kouyo at least until we have found a way back to the Golden World. We should get the others home first...."

Yes... for finding their way back to the Golden World will be one hurdle, but finding their way to Karyasihu and Madame Ranko will be an entirely different one...
"But," Setsushi begins as he leans down towards Kouyo: What happened with Kumoru? Kouyo still has not told Setsushi.

Kouyo turns his head away from Setsushi a little, his breath catching a moment when his friend mentions the necromancer again. He is still crying anyway, though, and sobbing occasionally from having gotten so upset.
He really does not want to talk about it right now....

Very well... Setsushi will not force him, of course. But Setsushi will keep his word and inform the human of Kouyo's recovery. When Kouyo is a little more stable, he will go to use the tele-phone.
He pets Kouyo's hair gently. Setsushi hopes Kouyo will not have to miss much work... it will be difficult to get started again if he takes a long break. Even worse, the human Whitestone might come looking for him...

Kouyo doubts that Whitestone would come after him at home, but the thought is still enough to send the unstable priest into another fit of tears. The thought of being cornered at home... gonk
He does his best to wall off his worries about what Kumoru might do to him, though, and tells Setsushi that he might attempt to go tomorrow. With any luck, the necromancer would leave him alone as he usually tended to do, and Kouyo would not have to deal with the other human, either.
But the red-haired Porcelain will decide in the morning. Slowly and stiffly, he climbs up out of his chair, wiping his eyes. He thought he was worn out before, but now he is exhausted; Kouyo does not expect to go a second night without sleep.

Setsushi is glad that Kouyo will be able to sleep; he hopes it will help him feel calmer and happier tomorrow.
He pats Kouyo's shoulder, then goes to fetch his wallet so that he can go use the pay-phone. But before leaving, he returns to Kouyo with a small, rusty-looking object in his hand -- the housekey.
Setsushi doesn't normally lock the house, but if it will help Kouyo rest, he will lock up as he leaves.

Well... from Kouyo's experience, doors do not stop Master Whitestone, locked or not sweatdrop So he supposes he will be fine either way.
Forcing a weak smile, he reaches out to touch Setsushi's hand briefly, but does not look at him as he offers a quiet, "Good night". Then he wearily retreats behind the screen to change into his sleeping robes and settle into his blanket nest for the night.
