The playful expression that'd been lingering on Cane's face throughout the party so far disappeared almost instantly, and he took a step back, setting his plate on the table and nodding. "I think I understand." The native turned, and walked right back over to the rest of the party-goers, his eyes a bit wary as he left Micajah to his own devices.
Once more near Scyeth, Cane smoothly tied his hair back, before nodding at the newcomers. One of them looked to be.... Native American? He spoke up, tone respectful. "Are you of the tribes...?" If he was, he would know what Canaan meant. "I am Canaan Kreery, of the Cherokee and Hoopa Nations."

This was almost too exciting for Wynn, but the boy decided to follow in Rui's steps. At least he had gotten some good information...The Magic division would have good teachers. That's good. And...Oh man, Wynn began to shy as they got closer to the throng of youthful teenage boys. He could only manage a meek, "Okay," to RuiZhi's offer of safety as they dived into the crowd.
From behind Rui's shoulder, Wynn glanced around with unsure eyes as he debated between being defensive or being quiet. Micajah, now mysteriously trapped in a wheel chair, talked with another dark skinned boy at the food table. Twisting his head forwards, he saw the "birthday boy" of the party as well as the people who were around him, and a tall boy with brown hair. Letting his mouth twitch in a contemplative frown, "Um..."
Before he could spill out an awkward happy birthday wish, Wynn's attention was captured by the other dark skinned student he had seen moments before at the food table. He said something familiar...Tribes. Wynn knew tribes. Wynn was from a tribe.
With his face brightening ever so slightly, Wynn answered, "Wynn Darbinian...I am Inuit."

"Inuit! A good, strong tribe." Although dwindling in number. But then again, most of them were. Canaan, although awkward with common english, was much better at it than Wynn, it seemed. This was because the Hoopa and Cherokee had almost entirely lost fluency in their native tongues, whereas the relative isolation of the Alaskan tribe had kept their language intact.
Turing his attention to the chinese student, he extended a strong hand in greeting. "Happy Solstice, RuiZhi, I am Canaan." So this was Scyeth's current mate. Interesting.

"This is Wynn, Scyeth, and I insist you be nice." He teased his boyfriend lightly before he was addressed, turning to give an unfamiliar boy a bewildered expression. Happy Solstice? Was that another holiday he wasn't familiar with?
RuiZhi gave the teen named Canaan a curious look before extending his hand in returned greeting, offering a slight bow in the process. "Nice to meet you." It was a little awkward to greet someone without offering his name, but then again, it had been shouted. Anyone who didn't know it was either not in the room or deaf. "Welcome to ShinKami." He didn't know what the holiday Solstice was (he knew well the time of year, his people having been agricultural, but he'd never been greeted in such a fashion), so he decided to stick with formalities even if it was a party. He was not any good at this 'partying' thing.
Luna, but he was so not a party person.
"Ah, and it looks like you've met Wynn." He flashed the other a pleased smile. "It's nice to have both of you here."

Scyeth was only half-listening, but he couldn't help the wicked grin when Weiyuan explained his choice. Smart boy. He didn't really have a chance to comment on it, though, or on Micajah's sudden silence, as RuiZhi and his friend came over as Scyeth beckoned. He watched as Canaan and Wynn, was it? made friends, and turned his attention his boyfriend. "I'm glad you could come," he purred, well-aware RuiZhi was not a huge fan of parties. A shame, since Scyeth was a very social creature himself.
He wrapped an arm around RuiZhi's waist, almost possessively, as it was coming to be his normal fashion at such gatherings, and nuzzled him. "I guess you've met Cane?" He looked over at RuiZhi's new friend. "Wynn. A pleasure," he offered a smile and his hand for a shake. "You came at the same time Canaan did? I'm afraid I haven't really seen you around before. I am Scyeth Akazar, soldier-in-training." He'd already been introduced, but he liked to do it himself. He also had to add in the last part, as it were. Very important, his 'profession'.

Wynn kept his eyes for the moment on Canaan, trying to remember from the few maps they had posted on the market walls of his cold tundra bound home, where the Cherokee and Hoopa Nations were. He remembered that they had one upon, his village people that is, traced out the distant relations of their kin. It was long ago and this poor Inuk could not recall. "Where is your tribe? Cold?"
Then Wynn heard his name mentioned by other voices. His attention perked, he looked to the other boy that Rui was introducing him too just as he pulled Rui to him, effectively removing his protective barrier. Wynn pulled a shy smile to his face and the little bit that he had opened up to receive Canaan had instantly closed like a clam's shell. Giving a few mumbles, he inclined his head and said, "H-hello, Scyeth." as he took the offered hand with his gloved hand. "I want...Magic."

Wei nodded in his own little corner of the room. Feeling a bit isolated...and old. God they were all younger than him. He sighed, happy occasion he didn't want to start bringing it down. Slowly he scooted closer to the exit, that brisk run around the island now beckoning to him. "'Kay soooooo....if you need me I'll be running around the island." And with that he me his exit.

Micajah took a deep sigh of relief as Cane walked off and started to talk with others, the color in his cheeks fading down a bit, and he huffed to himself that this wasn't good for his heart and if things kept up he'd be dead before he hit sixteen. This all had to be stress from the accident, his body just acting in self-preservation mode or whatnot, and he accepted that without trying to press on anything else. When he was fully healed, he thought, he should be back to his old self. A little more cautious to be sure, but his old self.
He was going to go and talk to the others, mostly the ones he was unfamiliar with and hadn't spent much time together (mainly Weiyuan) but when Micajah turned away from the table he frowned to see that the boy was making his leave from the party to go do running or something.
Lame. Lucky.
He couldn't very well leave like that, his crutches making swift exits near impossible, not to mention his friendship with Scyeth kept him here at least to keep some peace.
Maybe I should go speak with Wynn? He seems to have hit it off with Cane well, and Scyeth is currently enthralled with RuiZhi, which leaves me...to eat?

A respectful nod to the science student, and Cane's tone was polite, if lacking warmth. "Thank you, RuiZhi. I do not know how I feel about this place yet, but I am looking forward to learning."
"South to yours. Northern California. It is cold, but warm too, depending on the season. It is very green there, and our trees are the largest in the world." A proud smile for the redwoods. Cane trailed off as Scyeth introduced himself, and rolled his shoulders in a smooth shrug. "Though I am drawn to the spirits, I will be a Guardian." He thought.

Wynn listened to Cane's description of his land and he was able to picture the area he described with ease. Or at least, where it was on the map. While his home on the tundra had very little trees, the Inuk found the thought of the tallest trees in the world quite intriguing. For one, Wynn really enjoyed the company of trees and their spirits. It was always a special treat when, on his morning treks around the tundra, he would stumble into a small wind-beaten grove of trees. He would listen to them, enjoy them, and appreciate them before the sun moved too much and he had to get on with the rest of his day.
"It's always cold," Wynn said to Cane, "Where my people stay. There are days with no sun. All white sometimes, and lots of earth to listen to."

The lack of kindness in Cane's voice made him arch a brow at Scyeth, a little surprised. It didn't seem the type of person for the feisty blonde to associate with, but hey, it wasn't for him to judge. With a silent shrug, he turned his attention to the birthday boy instead - Wynn seemed more comfortable with Cane anyway - and tapped the presents. "Don't forget to open them, and remind me later to tell you who one of them is from." The person in question would kill him if he said it out loud.
He was pleased by Scyeth's attitude towards Wynn, and really, the Aussie's overall demeanor. He seemed to be so much more, a full mind and heart after the events that had left him in the embrace of a paddle ball. RuiZhi leaned a little into Scyeth with gratitude before straightening again, resting his hand over the one against his hip. No, he was not a social creature, not to this degree, but he was willing to try. There might be a day where he found these people in need of his expertise, and to have a friendly face in such a dire time was always in their favor.
The Chinese teen was a little amused by his morbid thoughts, but let it be. He kept his smile in place, content to watch the conversations and observe in silence unless spoken to.

"That would be amazing to see. Your people must have strong roots to the earth."
It couldn't be helped, Cane, a loving, honest boy, was also quite wary of strangers [especially non native strangers], and tended to be a bit guarded until he warmed up to them, still, when he excused himself from the conversation again, his smile for the group was real, and refreshing.
"I grow tired, I am afraid. Perhaps I will see you all soon?" Cane gestured toward the sign-up table again. "Hopefully at practice for our sportsclub."
Moving toward the door, Cane paused to eye Micajah for a long moment, before touching the boy's elbow. "Would you mind coming with me? I have some questions about our notes."

It was to Wynn's dismay that his new found kindred announced his weariness and started heading for the door. He didn't want to be any bother, even though that Wynn desperately wanted to ask more questions and perhaps even ask him to stay longer, but he knew better. Wynn had to respect his fellow native' decision to leave. With the slight nod of his head, Wynn gave his goodbye to Cane, "Hope that our paths cross again," he said earnestly, a look crossing his face that resembled the look of a rejected stray dog.
Glancing about helplessly from Cane's retreat to the exit, Wynn immediately stepped a bit closer to the first person he had met during this party, RuiZhi. As a sort of instinctual response, the Inuk reached out with fumbling hands until he caught the hem of RuiZhi's shirt between his thumb and the bend of his index finger.

Cane stopped in his tracks to turn back to Wynn, blue eyes warm as he pressed a fist against his own chest. "We stay in the same dorms. We will meet again, soon." A grin for the other native, and he turned back to the exit.

Scyeth seemed to have spaced out a little; he must be getting tired, as well. The blond stayed curled around his boyfriend as he looked around. Micajah, Wynn, himself and RuiZhi remained. Hmm. He should probably call it a night. The youth turned to Wynn, the boy looked absolutely lost, he should- Was he touching RuiZhi's shirt?
Any sleepiness snapped out of the Australian and Scyeth had to bite back a growl. RuiZhi was his boyfriend, this much was completely obvious, and what's more, he had obviously claimed RuiZhi as his own for the evening. As cross as he was with the idea, the soldier-in-training actually contained himself, even if it was a bit of a struggle. He leaned over and got a good look at the new student. "He's right, you know. You should join one of the teams. It would be a lot of fun."
He was such a shameless plug. He'd have already begged RuiZhi, if he thought the had any chance at all of convincing him. (That, and Scyeth secretly feared ending up on an opposite team.)
