I'm gonna go with the impostor theory because the guy acted too much like 10 to be a regeneration.

Lennie the Fish I'm gonna go with the impostor theory because the guy acted too much like 10 to be a regeneration. Umm.. no he didn't. He acted much more like 6... Here's something to ponder on... A young 1? _____________________________________________________ >>> <<<

I don't like him, he's a bit... foppish. No that's not the word I'm looking for... narcissistic? no... um... he has a noticeably gigantic superiority complex. Which all the doctors have to some extent, but this guy... vainglorious? POMPOUS. That's the word. Seriously; I like the Doctors that are like...
"*saves the world* oh and by the way, I'm the Doctor."
not
"I'm the Doctor! I'm awesome! *saves the world* I'm here till thursday!"
If you know what I mean.
Pompous.

But they needed to have a change, don't you think? The new doc (whoever he might be) can't be just the same as 8, 9 or 10 _____________________________________________________ >>> <<<

I really, really hope he's not the next Doctor. He's too full of himself. gonk

As someone who did eventually learn to love the 6th Doctor, but who saw the havok his ego wreaked upon the series and its ratings, I sincerely hope the next incarnation isn't such a horse's-patoot as the red-waistcoat chap seems to be. And yes, I do see a little Gilderoy Lockheart there. Oh, and Whatzit--that's not REgenerating, that's DEgenerating.

Well, it's obvious it's not the Doctor himself because he would a) recognize himself and b) wouldn't him meeting himself cause a time paradox? (I haven't seen much of the old series by the way, but I've heard something about different incarnations meeting each other before, is that true?) Another Timelord wouldn't make much sense either because the Doctor has already said he would've felt it if there were any others. (He didn't feel the Master of course because the Master was, at the time, human /spoilers for s03) The parallel universe seems a bit overdone to me but on the other hand, if he was an impostor (from the Victorian age, might I add), how would he have gotten a sonic screwdriver? Also, isn't his partner's name Rosetta or something? Ah well, I can't wait to find out at any rate. Yet another reason to get too excited for my own good for Christmas. whee

b) Yeah, he's met himself before, (Three Doctors, Five Doctors, Two Doctors, Time Crash...) and it seems to not cause as much of an issue if the two are different regenerations, or maybe it's just because he's a Time Lord... never did seem clear to me. Time Crash had the most issues with the paradox, but that was probably more the TARDIS than the Doctor... Anyway, in contrast, when the Brigadier met himself it caused all sorts of temporal stuff... same with Rose.

Oh, durr, I've even seen Time Crash. Never mind b) then. It's probably a Time Lord thing, or something. Either one would still recognise the other if it was the same Doctor.

The Blinovitch Limitation Effect (from "Mawdryn Undead") probably would kick in only if, say, 10 met and came in contact with 10, or any incarnation of a time lord came in contact with an earlier or previous self of the same regeneration.

D: confusing! honestly I don't think they'd go for such a drastic personality change, what with the series doing so well and everything. Bit risky. I guess at the moment there's all this hype about Tennant leaving, so they thought they'd mess with us a bit...
Parallel seems a good idea, and imposter is probable because you know... something could happen to the doctor and he could just take the screwdriver.
I don't know! :S
