Huojin was sure that everyone was expecting him to do something crazy. Like, retaliate against his mother, yell at her for the usual, bla bla. But he wasn't feeling that sort of option currently. He stared blankly at his mother before holding in an urge to laugh. Ah, some things would never change. Like her for example. But he had, and he was sure that would probably surprise her and everybody else.
So, rather than dragging the conflict further... "Well, it's been a pleasure seeing everybody!" He then made his rounds around the group while nuzzling and snuggling all of his family members. "I'm afraid I need to get back towards the mountains, if I disappear for too long some will get worried!" Plus... his mother had had enough of him. Indeed, some things would never change.
When he was finished making his way around the group, he stopped in front of his mother and smiled at her. "I'll see you later, mom. Sorry for upsetting you." And with that, he smiled at everyone before saying a goodbye one last time. "I'll be back for babysitting duties!" Plus, he wanted to spend more time with the new sibs! "Take care of things, Shen." he then added, while giving his brother one last smile before making his way off and into a trot.
In truth, that was the best family visit he had ever had. Nothing could phase him as negatively anymore, and forgiving his mother was a process he was working on... But for now, he had other things to worry about! He was sure his family could understand!
Jingfei was glad to see things were becoming more peaceful between her own siblings, and she snugged them lovingly before staring upward and feeling a nuzzle from Huojin. "Whaaa, he's leaving?" she pouted slightly but then smiled at his good byes. Huojin and Shen were both amazing as older siblings! "We seriously are lucky to have two amazing brothers! Right guys?" she grinned at Jia and Jirani and wondered if they felt the same way.
She'd have to bother Huo and Shen some time to learn more about them. But for now, she had enough to take in from the world around her. "I think we have the best family ever!" she finally said, while wiggling her body happily. Soon she and her own siblings would grow up as beautifully as those around her. It was something to be excited for, and she hoped her childhood would be as awesome as her parents had promised.
Well, so far she could agree!

Raksh sighed as Ju went off again, and tried to make eye contact with Huojin, but was surprised to see him smiling when he looked up. He got to his feet as Huojin said he was leaving. He wasn't going to try to make him stay. He knew that he really needed to leave for himself. He smiled and bowed his head at his older son as he took his leave.
"I hope to see you again soon, Huojin."
Shen felt his heart sink a bit as Huojin said he was leaving. He knew why, but he also saw the smile on his brother's face. He looked at him and knew that he was still in the process of accepting their mother's attitude and living with it. They all knew that she would probably never change, but there wasn't really anything that anybody could do about it. It was all up to her to change things. He smiled at Huojin in parting without saying a word.
Jirani was a little surprised at his brother leaving. He felt it was a rather abrupt end to the family gathering. He smiled as his sister nuzzled him and ran up to Huojin, and nuzzled him before he left.
"I talk to you later, big brother. It was nice to finally meet you!"
Ju kept her head turned as he son said his goodbyes. It was true that she was rather surprised that he didn't say anything back to her and the he was leaving so suddenly. She eventually stood up and shook out her tail, but still kept facing away from him. As she heard him leave the clearing, she finally looked up and watched him as he trotted off. She wanted to say something to him. She suddenly felt this sinking feeling that she couldn't understand and there was a lump in her throat. She suddenly took a couple steps forward, towards her son.
"Huojin!!" she yelled out. "I...."
She couldn't find the words for what she wanted to say to him. But she had the worst feeling that she was about to lose him forever, and she didn't want that.

Jia Li wasn't sure quite how to react to her brother leaving. Their mother had sounded a bit angry but he seemed to be taking in stride, as did her siblings. She would too in that case. "Goodbye then brother!" She called to him at what would be considered a normal speaking tone to most with a pleasant smile and a little bow of her head. "I hope to see you again soon." This marked the end, or close to it, of their family meeting. Or at least she was pretty sure of it.
When her mother suddenly moved towards Houjin, however, she rethought her earlier conclusion. Perhaps things were not over after all? She looked on with interest but turned her face towards her sister leaving her eyes on their mother. This was likely rude but right now she couldn't think of any other way to divide her attention. "I agree Jingfei...we do have the best family..." And in a barely audible whisper she added, "...and the most interesting one as well."

For all that Huojin had been through in terms of family and hardship, it was amazing what his mother was doing. It was also amazing that he initially stopped at her word, since there was no reason to shame her or embarrass her. In the past he would have kept walking, and he would have flicked his tail like a jerk just to initiate his feelings. But at the moment he was stopped and sturdy, and after a minute he turned his body to face her and had a kind smile in response to her very worried face.
His mother seemed to be interpreting his leave much differently then he imagined, and he shook his head while nuzzling her nose lightly. "No worries, Mum." he then added, while cutting off her shaky words with another nuzzle.
Huojin saw life differently now that he had Farsiris at his side. For example, if he and a child had potential problems, he'd never want to argue or be in a position his mother was in. She should enjoy the family time and not worry at all, since he wouldn't want Farsiris to worry either. "This was a lovely meeting, but unfortunately I really must go. I promise you'll be able to meet Farsiris soon, if you'd like." he paused then, and tilted his head with a chuckle. "But for now, just enjoy yourself with the little ones."
After glancing at his family one last time, he stared at his mother for a long moment and hoped she finally understood the truth to his words. He'd never abandon his mother, his family, or his past. If he did, then he'd truly be a coward.
So, slowly and surely, after giving his mother some time to respond, he walked off and back into the distance, knowing a resolution would come with time. And he would be as patient as he was at the moment until that day came.
