I don't care for the Black Eyed Peas or any Hip/Hop/Pop bands. I'm disturbed by songs like "My Humps", "Candy Shop" and "Shake Your Laffy Taffy".

I don't much like Hillary Duff, Blink 182, Sum 41, or any of those so called "punk bands" or Disney based bands.

I can stand Green Day because they have musical talent. They may be a bandwagon band right now, but they used to be good, and even there sell-outish stuff is done with more skill than any run-of-the-mill pop band (My hippie-ish dad even thinks their new stuff sounds like the Who- the first punk band in his opinion). That's the same reason I can stand Evanescence as well. Amy Lee has a good voice, and not once has she ever claimed her music was goth. That was Ben Moody.

KoRn's new stuff is highly dissapointing to me now. I liked them back in the day when they were like scary and actually put some emotion into the music.

I hate, with a passion, old country music. This of course stems from living in a small town in AZ w/ only one radio station that has a habit of staying away from country songs made after 1990.

Oh, I wish we had a country station that played pure country music and not just country-pop (a scary hybrid!). I may not like most country music but I do enjoy Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn from time to time.

"Hate" is a pretty strong word, and besides I like all musical styles if they're done well.

However.

I do have a bit of a problem with artists like 50 Cent and Fat Joe. Why? They glorify violence, materialism, mysoginy, negative gender-roles, racial stereotypes, etc. and brainwash the teen gen. into similiar ways of thinking.

If I ever met 50 Cent, like one on one, I think I would give him some hand-picked daisies and show him my beautiful hairy armpits. biggrin

Pretty much anything my sister, Rachel, listens to - Green Day, Simple Plan, Linkin' Park, etc etc.

And Rap.

My problwm with most modern bands is not with their music, but with their corporatism. For instance, i think that their album Meteora was alright, but Linkin Park seems to be into a lot of self-promotion. Same with a lot of bands. I usually lose my taste for an artist if their music appears in a commercial, or it turns out that they don't write their own music, or if there's too much merchandising.
But what I really hate is modern rap and almost all country music. And teen-pop style music. Yeah. Corporations need to stay the hell outta music.

However, I also must admit that just two years ago I was just another angsty middle-schooler who took herself too seriously and had crappy taste (Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Linkin Park, et cetera). cry I had common sense and taste before and after the 7th and 8th grade- I guess those years are like my own version of a 2-year "lost weekend". wink

Aren't you generalising just a little? There's good and bad music in every genre. The hippie guild is the last place on Gaia I'd expect to find musical stereotyping, but then again, I guess it *is* Gaia. *sighs*

I think it's okay to listen to corporate bands if you actually genuinely enjoy their music. I'm not endorsing capitalism or anything, but if you understand the money and it's people that are behind this band or that band then you're being media/pop culture literate. And this is a good thing. It's like making a conscious decision to eat Doritos even though you are well aware that they're not terribly good for you.

I hate all the bands now adays that call themselves "Rock" and "metal". the 80's were the golden ages of rock, the hairs bands and s**t, you can NEVER get better then that, i mean, Iron Maiden Motley Crue, Ratt, Ozzy, Metallica, everyone was prime back then. now, the "rock" is greenday and all these stupid bands that are all underground cause htey suck so much and noone knows about them....if the rock/metal band wasnt in the 80's or before, than it sucks [except a few from the 90's] and also, rap and hiphop and all that stuff, im sorry but theres just no talent, the "beat music" is made by machines, so they dont even have to learn an insterment to make the music, and they just rhyme about having sex and hookers and drugs and gangs and stuff, i mean, anyone can make a rap star, cause you dont need talent. and country, bleh,.....but watch, in 20 years, will anyone know about any of the bands now a days? all the so called "rock" bands now a days? i mean, those hair bands were from TWENTY years ago, and they are still bigger than these bands. but that only happens with rock, and with the 80's. country or rap or anything isnt rememberd in 20 years cause they arent so awesome enough....only pretty much hair bands from the 80's will be remembered for years and years cause they were the prime of music. but some not hair bands like Pink Floyd and Phish and The Grateful Dead and those ones will obviously never be forgotten either.....so yeah, theres my opinion.... xp
I could not agree with anyone more... old music has lasted until now for a reason. Most new music just cannot live up to past traditions, and the newer bands know it. I'm not saying that some new music isn't also good, but certainly not the popular stuff. Boy bands, most slutty girl singers, Hilary Duff, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, etc., etc., etc. ... all sicken me. And some rap shouldn't even be considered music, but I won't go there. xp

By the way, I really like your signature, PsychelicRat999. mrgreen

oh no, do go there. a lot of rap is getting to the point where whoever makes the most shovanistic song will get the platinum sales. and even with those songs that are insanely degrading to women, nine tenths of the time its a girl dancing around and singing the s**t when its playing. two songs that automatically pop into mind: my humps; shake dat laffy taffy.
